Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey rewrote a piece of film history on Dec. 30, when they filed a lawsuit alleging they were sexually exploited in the 1968 film version of “Romeo and Juliet.”
The actors, now 72 and 71, accuse the late director Franco Zeffirelli of coercing them into performing a bedroom scene in the nude, after first promising that they could wear flesh-colored underwear. They also claim that Zeffirelli lied to them when he said that nude images would not be shown.
In fact, the camera lingers on Whiting’s buttocks, and there is a brief glimpse of Hussey’s breasts. She was 16 and he was 17 at the time. (Their complaint misstated their ages as 15 and 16.)
A studio would never film such a scene today with underage actors, several industry experts say, though doing so is not explicitly forbidden by laws or union rules.

Twenty-four hours haven’t been nearly enough to settle, in my mind anyway, yesterday’s Tony Awards Sorkin Snub, but for the most part, the nominations sit well. Certainly they represent a decent scope of styles and approaches that make for a Broadway inclusive enough to find space for something as quirky (understatement of the day) as Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus and as traditional (if woke) Kiss Me, Kate.
I wrote about the snubs and surprises of the Tony Award nominations yesterday, so today I’ll walk through some random Broadway byways – congratulations, disappointments and shout-outs to performances and productions that didn’t make the Tony cut but merit remembering as this season heads to a close (Tony eligibility is done and dusted; the ceremony is June 9).
Best Musical Of the big, end-of-ceremony categories, this one probably has the least to quibble with, though I will: Be More Chill should have been here.

In honor of the film’s message that acts of kindness can make a powerful difference, Pure Flix created an initiative for regional organizations around the country to host red carpet screening events. On October 18, 126 local red carpet events (resulting in sales of 75,000 tickets and showings on 410 screens) took place to benefit local communities and shelters where attendees got a first viewing of the film and were reminded they can make a difference in their communities through their own acts of kindness.

The new full-length trailer for Pure Flix’s fall release Same Kind of Different as Me showcases the film’s three stars — Greg Kinnear, Renée Zellweger and Djimon Hounsou, in an uplifting tease for the film’s long-delayed October 20 release. "Amazing how far a little tender lovin' care can go." Paramount and PureFlix have debuted another new official trailer for the heartfelt drama Same Kind of Different as Me, from director Michael Carney. This was originally scheduled to open in February, but was delayed seven months and is now being released in October, if anyone still wants to see it. Greg Kinnear stars as a family man who befriends a homeless man, played by Djimon Hounsou, and changes his life through a bit of kindness and friendship. The film also stars Renée Zellweger in one of her other major roles (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) after her hiatus, along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This doesn't look any better than it did when we posted the first trailer last year, but perhaps these a few good performances in this worth appreciating. Here's the second trailer (+ poster...

The trailer for Same Kind Of Different As Me can really just be boiled down to this one exchange between a well-to-do sainty wife (Renée Zellweger) and her kindhearted but cynical husband (Greg Kinnear) about 90 seconds in:
Sw: It’s pretty sexy what you did today.
Kbch: Hanging out with a homeless guy?
Sw: How was it?
Kbch: Actually, it was kind of amazing.
Sure, the film by first-time feature director Michael Carney also stars Djimon Hounsou as a troubled, angry “modern-day slave” the couple befriends at a soup kitchen, and Jon Voight as a conservative caricature (himself, essentially). But the real message of this trailer is that the two middle-class white people at its center have a lot to pat themselves on the back for. They willingly became friends with a black person. And a poor one at that! Lest anyone think this is just more Hollywood mawkishness ...

"You're not a bad man, and I'm glad we're friends." Paramount has debuted the trailer for a drama called Same Kind of Different as Me, adapted from the memoirs of Denver Moore, Ron Hall & Lynn Vincent, about the lives of three people bound together by fate and friendship. The film stars Renée Zellweger in her first major role (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) in years, Greg Kinnear, and Djimon Hounsou; along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This looks like an emotional, heartfelt story of friends and family, but some of it looks pretty bland and melodramatic. They're also dumping this during the Oscar season meaning it's not that great, but at least Djimon Hounsou looks exceptional. Give it a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Michael Carney's Same Kind of Different as Me, direct from YouTube: A modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and...

One of the under-discussed success of 2014 (but one that won’t go unnoticed in Hollywood) is "Heaven Is for Real," the adaptation of Lynn Vincent’s New York Times Bestseller. The true story of a kid’s near death experience and the visions of the afterlife he bestowed to his parents grossed over $90 million at the domestic box office, a huge hit for Sony Pictures and a career highlight for star Greg Kinnear. Those numbers must have instilled some faith in the actor: He’ll star alongside Renee Zellweger and Djimon Hounsou in the next Vincent adaptation, “Same Kind of Different As Me.” According to a press release announcing the cast, Paramount Pictures's tongue-twisting drama tells the true story of “an international art dealer Ron Hall (Kinnear) who must befriend a dangerous homeless man (Hounsou) in order to save his struggling marriage to his wife (Zellweger), a woman whose...

After taking a break from acting for four years, Renee Zellweger is getting back in the game. Next year, we’ll see the actress in legal thriller The Whole Truth, alongside Keanu Reeves, and it looks like that project rekindled her fire for performance, as Deadline reports that Zellweger has also signed on to star in Paramount’s faith drama, Same Kind Of Different As Me.
The film is based on the 2006 bestselling novel by art dealer Ron Hall and drifter Denver Moore.
