The Baby Reindeer phenomenon has landed in Los Angeles.
On the heels of Richard Gadd’s limited series becoming a certified sleeper hit by coming in at No. 1 on Netlfix’s English-language TV rankings for a third consecutive week, the streamer welcomed its creator and star to the West Coast. Gadd is making the media rounds this week to discuss the critically acclaimed series inspired by his real-life stalker of six years, and he’s doing so alongside Jessica Gunning, the actress earning raves as the woman who terrorized him.
The pair posted up Tuesday evening on a stage inside the Directors Guild of America with actress Nava Mau and two key members of the Baby Reindeer team — director Weronika Tofilska and editor Peter Oliver — for the show’s first-ever panel discussion. Moderator Tonya Mosley of NPR’s Fresh Air steered the conversation (in front of a capacity crowd of...

Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders has captivated audiences worldwide with the tumultuous world of the Shelby family, as they navigated the treacherous landscape of gang warfare and political intrigue. Loosely based on the real-life urban youth gang of the same name, the series incorporates elements from historical figures and addresses prevalent themes such as anti-Irish sentiment.

However, amidst the compelling narrative, the show also includes characters embodying fascist and racist ideologies. Knight opened up about such a character Oswald Mosley, acknowledging the unsettling parallels between his beliefs and actions and modern sociopolitical trends.

Fresh Air radio co-host Tonya Mosley is set to launch the She Has a Name podcast next month, about a young Detroit mother lost amid that city’s economic collapse and crack cocaine epidemic.
The 10-part documentary podcast from Apm Studios will kick off March 28. Mosley, who grew up in Detroit in the 1980s and ’90s and is now co-host of Fresh Air With Terry Gross and Tonya Mosley, is joined by her nephew, Antonio Wiley, to tell a story of family disconnection and healing.
The origins of the podcast, which blends investigative journalism and memoir, came in 1987 when Detroit firefighters discovered the remains of an unidentified young woman in a vacant house deliberately set on fire.
Buried in a cemetery as “Unknown Woman 1987,” it took a DNA program 30 years later to identify the young woman’s remains as those of Anita — the mother of Antonio Wiley and the sister...

Anna Diop has signed on to star opposite Corey Hawkins and Willem Dafoe in “The Man in My Basement,” directed by Nadia Latif.
The film is an adaptation of Walter Mosley’s bestselling psychological thriller, and Diop’s casting sets an onscreen reunion with Hawkins, her co-star in the 2017 series “24: Legacy.”
Hawkins stars in the movie as Charles Blakey, a man living in the African American neighborhood of Sag Harbor, who is “out of work, out of luck and on the verge of foreclosure on his ancestral home.”
“A knock on the door from a mysterious white businessman, Anniston Bennet (Dafoe), brings a bizarre and lucrative proposition; rent his dusty stand-up basement out and receive enough money to clear his debts for good,” the official synopsis explains. “Once Charles accepts, he finds himself led down a terrifying path that confronts his family’s ghosts and locks the men in a terrifying puzzle,...

The happy family Gabi formed with M&a is in shambles!
The truth will set you free, but first, it will piss you off, and Gabi's team was pissed after her confession at the end of Found Season 1 Episode 13.
The scariest part about all of this is that Gabi's efforts to protect Lacey may be in vain if Sir quite literally has his sights set on her from inside her apartment.
If this man has already tried to kill her dog, what are his nefarious plans for her?
It isn't lost that Gabi Mosley was held as a hero in the eyes of sweet Dashika, all the while those closer to her may be grappling with the complexities of her stoking her inner monster.
In that way, the literary references we get in the flashbacks via many of Sir Evans and teen Gabi's conversations coincide so fittingly with the series and these characters.

For every person the team saves, Gabi celebrates the win and then moves on to the next case. For those who don’t, Gabi keeps their pictures in her house as a reminder of what might happen if they’re not diligent.
Found Season 1 Episode 10 saw the team do something atypical where they revisited a past case that had been troubling Gabi since Tony was in a coma for six weeks and Gabi was in limbo for the same period.
For the first time, the team sought out a case instead of receiving one from a client, and the irony was that this was a case too similar to something Gabi had experienced.
A case connected to the past made for an exciting hour because we had been waiting for the outcome of Tony’s comma.

The news comes after Laci Mosley, who starred in the update of the beloved Nickelodeon series, posted, “It’s canceled babes,” on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a fan wondering about the show’s future.
“iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+,” a spokesperson for the streamer said in a statement. “The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together. We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors and producers along with the whole crew for their dedication, creativity and talent.”
Mosley added, “Not a joke. The best people I’ve ever worked with in the business. Thank you for tuning in to the reboot. Everyone put their deeply kind talented souls into this.”

Justified: City Primeval may not be the show some expected to find Aunjanue Ellis in this summer. But the draw in playing attorney Carolyn Wilder was not the Justified brand’s cult status. Instead, the original source material is what intrigued her most.
“I’m always interested in stories in film and television that have been adapted from books. So this was from Elmore Leonard originally [and] I’m always fascinated by characters who have novel beginnings,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Unlike Justified, where Harlan, Kentucky is the center, with Timothy Olyphant’s Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens dishing out his own unique blend of tough justice, Detroit is the setting for this FX offshoot. Traveling with his daughter Willa, played by Olyphant’s actual child Vivian, Raylan gets detoured in Detroit and tasked with catching sociopath Clement Mansell (an...

When the show teased alliances, it was not supposed to go like this.
Most of the conflicts boiling throughout Warrior Season 3 were resolved in Warrior Season 3 Episode 10, making for a satisfying ending to several of them.
The cold open saw Mai Ling visit Eliza to unburden about what Eliza's accusation had done to Mai Ling's life and mental well-being.
The scene was tense as the expectations were that Mai Ling would take her revenge in some form, and when she drew the knife, it was supposed to be over for Eliza.
Instead, Mai Ling gave a monologue highlighting Eliza's insecurities and how she lashed out at the nearest person she considered weak.
When I came to this country, I made myself a promise that I would never be bought or sold again. That I would never be subservient to another man. And that I would die rather than be anyone's whore.

Halfway into The Out-Laws, I was wondering if I should get a drink and watch the rest after getting a little buzzed because that would have certainly made this experience more profound. Not that it is any less than when you watch it dead sober. But there is one condition. You need to have a penchant for bad movies, like me. That is the only way you would enjoy The Out-Laws. It is a very obvious bad movie, which fits right into the “so bad that it’s good” genre. This is a movie where a man mistakes another man’s genitals for a ripcord while sky-diving. The same man repeatedly gets his buttocks grabbed by his fiancé’s parents as if nothing happened. Then, during an all-important heist, this man uses a water gun instead of a real one. Yes, it is that kind of movie. With the freedom of R-rating,...

If there was a phrase that could summarize Warrior Season 3 Episode 4, it's the common, almost cliché saying, "You play with fire, you get burnt."
Many characters played with fire, and when it burned them, the pain was nothing like they had ever experienced.
The search for the fake money plates brought the cops to the doors of the Hop Wei, where they wasted no time in raining hell on the place.
It led to an eventful night for Yan Mi as she crossed more than one boundary, many of which she had never envisioned herself crossing.
Elsewhere, Mai Ling's attempts to be accepted into the wide society led her directly into police custody after she was accused of a serious crime.
The episode picked up directly after the events of Warrior Season 3 Episode 3, where Sonoma Valley was attacked at night, leading to multiple casualties.

Episode 8 of Silo is all about Juliette and how she tries to find out what’s on the hard drive. But it isn’t an easy feat. Not only is the hard drive encrypted, but she has the Judicial desperately looking for her. Both of these prove that the hard drive contains sensitive information. Alongside this plotline, there is another one that revolves around Juliette’s mom, Hanna, and shows why she committed suicide. Both of these plotlines take the urgency of the story up a notch as we realize just how suppressive the Judicial is and has been.
Spoilers Ahead
Hanna’s Death
Hanna and her daughter, young Juliette, bring home a rabbit so that Hanna can operate on it. She has made a magnifier, which Martha had earlier mentioned to Juliette, to operate on the rabbit and cure it. Juliette has turned out just like her mother, totally into machines.

Before becoming one of the most divisive filmmakers in horror with the likes of Halloween and The Munsters, Rob Zombie was just a musician trying his hand at the film industry. House of 1000 Corpses came together fairly quickly following a failed attempt to reboot The Crow, but the rock star’s Hollywood career almost never was due to post-production controversy that left his directorial debut on the shelf for three years.
Production on Corpses was completed in 2000 before Universal Studios refused to release it due to its objectionable content. MGM later came on board to distribute it in 2002 until a tongue-in-cheek remark by Zombie caused them to cancel the deal. Finally, Lions Gate signed on and released it in April of 2003, launching Zombie’s film career as well as a franchise that would be followed by 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects and 2019’s 3 from Hell.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the series finale of “Snowfall.”
When John Singleton set out to tell the story about the effects of the ’80s cocaine business on Los Angeles, he had a clear vision in mind. He wanted something that came full circle and ultimately led into his directorial debut “Boyz ‘N the Hood,” a film that was set in the ’90s and explored the harsh realities of Black families living in South Central L.A. The movie earned the then 24-year-old his first Oscar nomination, making him the youngest and first Black filmmaker to be nominated for best director.
Damson Idris was a major part of the story of “Snowfall.” Starring as Franklin Saint, Idris carried out Singleton’s tale and vision down to the show’s final scenes. As Franklin’s story came to an end on Wednesday night, fans finally said goodbye to what...

The latest on Majors comes in the wake of yesterday’s news that his manager, Entertainment 360, and publicist, The Lede Company, have cut ties with the actor, who is facing domestic violence allegations in NYC after a March 25 incident involving a dispute with a 30-year old woman. The unnamed victim was taken to the hospital with “minor injuries to her head and neck,” according to authorities at the time of the incident. Majors is scheduled to appear in court on May 8 after being charged by the NYC D.A.

Tonya Mosley’s Truth Be Told podcast, which explores Black liberation through multiple lenses, has struck a deal with Apm Studios that will include the production of a new limited series with Mosley debuting in 2024.
The podcast was originally produced and distributed by Kqed before Mosley, an Emmy-winning broadcast journalist and regular interviewer on NPR’s Fresh Air, took the show independent. Now, Apm Studios — the podcasting arm of American Public Media — will handle ad sales, marketing and distribution for Truth Be Told.
“Tonya Mosley is one of the most talented hosts in media and we’re beyond excited to work with her at Apm Studios,” Joanne Griffith, Apm Studios’ chief content officer, said. “As the industry moves towards telling more nuanced stories of Black America and other people of color, Tonya is already leading the way with ‘Truth Be Told’ and we look forward to building on this together.

Chances are, if you’re scrolling through the pages of Directors Notes, you are either a filmmaker who has shown their work to friends and family or are said friend or family member who has had to watch a film made by a filmmaker friend or relative. The awkwardness of that slightly obligatory social transaction is brilliantly explored in Frank Mosley and Hugo De Sousa’s tight comedy drama The Event, in which a filmmaker wakes up his roommate in the middle of the night to question him as to why he hasn’t watched his new short film yet. It’s a witty and acerbic comedy short, and incredibly relatable for anyone in the vicinity of the film industry. Dn invited Mosley and De Sousa for a conversation about the construction of The Event, breaking down everything from the sharp screenwriting to the heightened, locked-off camerawork.

Longtime crime fiction novelist and “Snowfall” writer Walter Mosley says John Singleton gave writers everything creatively that they needed to know to continue “Snowfall” before his April 2019 death.
“Snowfall” is set to premiere its sixth and final season on Feb. 22 on FX. The series has become the network’s top-rated show, averaging 4.3 million total viewers across linear, VOD and streaming with its Season 5 debut.
Aside from its stellar cast, the show’s success can easily be attributed to Dave Andron, co-creater, executive producer and writer; Mosley, executive producer and writer; and the late Singleton, who co-created the series alongside Andron and Eric Amadio. Singleton died about three months before show’s Season 3 premiere, and the show has since maintained the essence and meticulousness of Singleton’s creative decisions and guidance.

AMC+ and Sundance Now’s Litvinenko and the second season of Netflix’s Last Chance U: Basketball are premiering in the same week, but you can expect that precious few reviews will note that the two shows — one a scripted docudrama and the other an unscripted docuseries — suffer, to different degrees, from a common flaw: If you’re dedicated to actively depicting reality, that can sometimes require accepting, or even embracing, the narrative limitations of reality.
In Last Chance U: Basketball, the return to East Los Angeles College in the aftermath of a year lost to Covid-19 forces coach John Mosley to struggle with finding the soul of a team that needs to replace all of its stars from last season. At this point, it would almost be impossible for “Last Chance U: Basketball” to fail. It’s not that there’s some key formula that any crew can come in and replicate with ease. It’s more that through its football origins, its parallel work on “Cheer,” and at East Los Angeles College for two seasons now, the “Last Chance U: Basketball” crew have identified what it takes to immerse a viewer in a program.
We’ve spoke at length many times about this show’s ability to pick out biographical details, seize on candid moments, and present in-game action with elegance and a level of immediacy just short of strapping a camera to players’ foreheads. All of that is present in “Last Chance U: Basketball” Season 2. It remains one of the best Netflix shows of any genre, and it returns as an immediate entry among the best documentaries of this year.

Up until its recently-completed final season, each and every installment of "Peaky Blinders" has featured a big name actor in the role of the main antagonist. While Finn Cole's Michael Gray took the centerstage in season 6, throwing the Shelby family into turmoil as he finally came to blows with his estranged cousin Tommy (Cillian Murphy) in an epic power struggle, prior seasons carefully built up each standalone threat as a new headache for Tommy and his gang of Peaky Blinders to deal with. From Sam Neill's odious Inspector Chester Campbell to Adrien Brody's Luca Changretta, the Shelbys eventually managed to take care of every major obstacle in their path -- all except for one.
Sam Claflin's Sir Oswald Mosley, based on the real-life historical figure who whipped pre-wwii Britain into a fascist frenzy, has posed the most significant challenge to Tommy's grand plans. Brought together out of mutual benefit,...

East Los Angeles College was a team of destiny in 2020 — and then Covid changed all our fates.
Well, the Elac Huskies and head hoops coach John Mosley are back — and so are Greg Whiteley’s cameras for Season 2 of Netflix sports-documentary series “Last Chance U: Basketball.” The sophomore season for the spinoff of Whiteley’s Juco football docuseries “Last Chance U” will premiere December 13 on the streaming service. Netflix released a trailer on Tuesday; check it out below.
Beyond Mosley, you won’t see a whole lot of familiar faces in the sneak preview. That’s kind of the nature of prestige junior college sports — or at least, it is if all goes according to plan. But before the dreams of a major transfer can take place, the talented players, many of whom lost Division I scholarships for behavioral and/or academic reasons, will attempt to gel enough to win a championship.

Writers know better than most how taking historical figures and dropping them into a world of fictional characters can sometimes run the risk of overwhelming the story at hand. The plot at the center of "Peaky Blinders," for instance, shares several parallels and intersections with actual historical events taking place during the time period that creator Steven Knight chose to cover -- specifically set during the moment in time between both World Wars in early 1900s Birmingham, England. While audiences have gravitated towards the drama of Tommy Shelby leading the Peaky Blinders from the local horse-racing scene in Small Heath to the seat of power at the center of the entire British empire, Knight wrote his scripts in such a way that he could easily integrate several historical figures into the action as well.

Triller has buried the hatchet with two hip-hop icons. It has settled a legal dispute with Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, who had previously alleged that the TikTok competitor owed them 28 million due to missed payments.
The two producers, whose real names are Timothy Mosley and Kasseem Dean, are the creators of the beat-making battle series Verzuz. The early-pandemic hit became a key piece of Triller’s content lineup after the platform acquired the show in March 2021. Problems arose about a year later, however, after Mosley and Dean alleged that Triller had not fully paid out the sums it owed to the two Verzuz frontmen. In total, the outstanding payments added up to 28 million, according to the lawsuit Mosley and Dean filed in August.
As part of the settlement, Triller will “increase the ownership stake given to the artists that Timbaland and Swizz Beatz brought to Triller as part of the original deal.

After bouncing about in a couple of good Blu-ray editions, Carl Franklin’s superior film adaptation of the great Walter Mosley novel makes the jump to 4K. Denzel Washington’s star quality and acting prowess shine in the smart production, with Tak Fujimoto cinematography that put the color back into ’90s filmmaking. There’s plenty to enjoy in this hard/soft-boiled tale, starting with the great music. Everybody’s good and Don Cheadle’s loose-cannon henchman ‘Mouse’ is terrific. It’s one of Washington’s best pictures, and should have initiated an entire franchise of Walter Mosley / Easy Rawlins detective adventures.

NBC has given a series order to the missing persons drama Found, written by Nkechi Okoro Carroll and starring Shameless alum Shanola Hampton in the lead role. As reported by Variety, the network picked up the series while also passing on its pilots Blank Slate and Unbroken. Found is based on the fact that “in any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about,” according to the show’s official logline. Hampton stars as public relations specialist Gabi Mosley — who was once herself one of those forgotten ones — and revolves around her crisis management team, who make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. However, unbeknownst to anyone, Mosley is hiding a chilling secret of her own. In addition to Hampton, the show also stars Brett Dalton,...
