Once a film and its formula become successful, there is always temptation to make a sequel. This is the dilemma facing the makers of the super hit film The Xposé at the moment.
Himesh Reshammiya is keen to make a sequel as he feels the character of Ravi Kumar in the thriller genre has worked well for him. However, National Award winning director Ananth Mahadevan would love to see them create a Rajesh Khanna biopic film. Speaking to Mid-Day, Ananth says: “It’s true that we are developing two different scripts. Himesh will be accepted a hundred times more as Khanna.
Although Ravi Kumar has won many people over and taking his story forward is the easiest and safest option I have, I would go with the biopic than The Xposé sequel.”

Set in the golden era of Bollywood of 1960’s, The Xpose is a poor attempt at a whodunit plot, where the story revolves around the murder of an actress in a Bollywood party. This 80 minute musical thriller is a recipe that has gone horribly wrong for the National Award winner and director Anant Mahadevan, who is well known to have delivered screenplays like the famous Mee Sindhutai Sapkal.
Reportedly inspired by real-life events of Bollywood during the 60’s, the movie had the potential to be a blockbuster hit. It was the poor screenplay and editing that killed the real quintessence of the film. The film’s characters Zara and Chandni (played by Sonali Raut & Zoya Afroz) are reportedly based on Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman.

For those of you who are looking forward to watching the biggest vintage musical extravaganza Himesh Reshammiya’s The Xpose, here is some more information about the film.
Of all the famous Bollywood stories mentioned over the years, there is one particular story that always stands out: when Sunil Dutt saab rescued Nargisji on the sets of their film Mother India. This famous real life scene has been recreated in The Xpose where Himesh’s character Ravi Kumar saves actress Chandni Roy (Zoya Afroz) from the fire.
Speaking to Toi, Ananth explained how the original incident happened: “While others are shouting for the fire brigade, Ravi rushes into the inferno and headless of the pillars crashing around him, mounts the platform on which Chandni is standing”. Now everything was set up to go off without any problems and all safety precautions were checked but there was a leak in one of the gas pipelines.

Look. Indian cinema is like a massive bouquet of wildflowers of different colours and smells. You really can’t judge Policegiri, Sanjay Dutt’s hefty homage to hero-giri completed before his 3-year prison terms, against the soft gently-undulating movements of the week’s other release Lootera. If Vikramaditya Motwane’s film is soft-petalled rose Policegiri is a wild cactus flower from the desert.
Why cactus? The landscape is populated with pricks, you see.
It’s roaring 12-gun salute to the traditional mainstream cinema’s ongoing obsession with the corruption-cleansing cop who goes on a rampage. The anti-establishment figure from Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer has been slyly transformed into the Khaki-coloured law-enforcer with shades of grey .
Like Ajay Devgn in Singham Akshay Kumar in Rowdy Rathore and Salman Khan in Dabangg, Dutt in Policegiri is a morally ambivalent do-gooder...
