James Gossard is a Maryland film producer & director, poet, screenwriter, playwright, and fiction writer. While penning his first novel, James worked as a freelance journalist in Montana, following the Border Grizzly Project and writing for wildlife journals. StoryPros named his screenplay, White Dust, in its Top Ten Action-Thrillers. Gossard's other screenplays have also placed in various screenwriter competitions, including Spotlight on Screenwriters. His stage plays have been produced and have received multiple awards, including the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award for September Moon. Most recently, his poetry received the highest State recognition with a Maryland State Arts Council 2017 Individual Artist Award.
In addition to being an active writer and producer, he owns a company focused on writing, video production, and serving as a business development consultant for businesses, nationwide. He created and hosts a web series, Writer, write thyself!, which explores topics of interest in the writer's life. He leads screenwriting workshops that focus on building a screenwriter's toolbox and understanding the elements that create a rich story in film. He has led workshops at Balticon, Maryland Writers Association, and for Women in Film & Video, in Washington DC. He has also served as a screenplay judge and as a script consultant for several independent films.
He studied creative writing at the University of Montana and received his M.A. in Writing from the Johns Hopkins University. James is a member of Women in Film & Video, the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, the Maryland Film Festival, Creative Alliance and the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture. He lives with his wife, Ann, in Ellicott City.
