- Kassem Hawal is an award winning Iraqi director, best known for his films about the political situations and wars in countries in the Middle East. He studied theater acting and directing at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad. He left Iraq in 1970 and traveled to Lebanon and Syria. Hawal has also worked on films for the PLO. He directed 28 documentaries and five features. Championing the arts in the Arab world, he was awarded with several honors on film festivals, and was acknowledged by both cultural and non-cultural organizations for his humanitarian work.
