THR broke the news last night that fan favorite action star Scott Adkins has joined the cast of Kickboxer: Armageddon. This will be the final chapter in a trilogy of films that started in 2016. Once again, Adkins is going to play a baddie like he did recently in John Wick Chapter 4. Adkins will play Cesare in Kickboxer: Armageddon, a martial arts master who rules over a sadistic cult, the descendants of the Reg (The Royal Elite Guard) of Burma. Cesare’s teaching philosophy involves learning through pain. Dimitri Logothetis, who co-wrote the first reboot, Kickboxer: Vengence, and helmed the second chapter, Kickboxer: Retaliation, returns to the director’s chair for the third film. “Scott is an exceptional actor as well as a martial...

Tim Burton loves to make things spooky and morbid, but his favorite holiday might well be Christmas. Look at how many of his films take place during the Yuletide season: "Batman Returns," "Edward Scissorhands," etc. He also conceived of "The Nightmare Before Christmas," which is all about Halloween Town's top ghoul, Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon), getting Christmas fever. While Burton handed off directing duties of the stop-motion picture to Henry Selick, it's easy to see his fingerprints and why he would empathize with Jack.
David A. Bossert's "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Visual Companion" was released this year for the film's 30th anniversary. The book features interviews with the film's crew, from Selick to Art Director Kelly Asbury, where they describe forming the film's distinct visual style — since there were multiple holiday-themed dimensions, they couldn't stick to just one aesthetic.

Bram Stoker Award-Winning author Adam Cesare released his original slasher novel Clown in a Cornfield in 2020, which Bloody Disgusting’s own Meagan Navarro called “a great retro slasher in the guise of Young Adult horror.” Meagan added, “Cesare applies an ’80s style slasher to a modern setting, complete with social relevancy, making the small town setting just as eerie as its homicidal, creepy clown. In other words, this author doesn’t water the horror down for its Young Adult demographic, making it an enjoyable read for any horror fan.”
Sequel novel Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives followed one year later, and Cesare is back Next Year with third installment Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo!

As the big-budget projects get delayed and studios attempt to secure a deal with the Writers’ Guild of America, some of the smaller films that work outside of the studio system hope to use their grassroots status as an advantage during these times. Kevin Smith recently announced that his production, The 4:30 Movie, was approved to film with a waiver, and his movie is intended to start its principal photography later this month. Now, the director of the Kickboxer reboot is now preparing for his next two projects, hoping to get a waiver to allow his film to proceed.
According to Deadline, Dimitri Logothetis, the director of Kickboxer: Vengeance and Kickboxer: Retaliation, is planning for the shooting of the conclusion to his trilogy with Kickboxer: Armageddon. The film is set to star Alain Moussi, who took over for the part of Kurt Sloane, previously occupied by action legend, Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Exclusive: Veteran action director Dimitri Logothetis is gearing up to shoot his latest set of features, Kickboxer: Armageddon and Flying Shadow, in Mississippi and Malta.
Scripts for both were written prior to the start of the strikes, and each project is currently in pursuit of a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, the goal being to kick off production for each in January.
Armageddon is the final chapter in a reboot trilogy based on the Kickboxer action franchise, which originally starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. Do you remember your first horror movie? I do. I can remember how petrified I was like it was yesterday.
And I’ll never come close to a TV set broadcasting ants racing, thanks to Poltergeist. I’m still too terrified of being sucked in.
My little brother was terrified of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and would cry whenever his name was mentioned. And my son turned sheet white when he first saw Vanessa rip her face off in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
The point is that we’ve all been scared by something on TV or in theaters. Although, some of us seem to enjoy it more than others.

Kohn’s Corner is a weekly column about the challenges and opportunities of sustaining American film culture.
This week provided a confluence of contentious developments for the film industry, and I’m not talking about the ongoing writers strike. First reviews of “The Flash” dropped ahead of the movie’s release and while they’re definitely mixed, the movie doesn’t seem destined for the dustbin despite its ostracized lead. Ezra Miller’s assault charges haven’t gone away, but that hasn’t deterred Warner Bros. from hurtling toward the theatrical release plan and mitigating Miller’s scandal however it can.
Miller, of course, stayed out of the spotlight while the studio ramped up buzz. Tracking for the June 16 release in the unremarkable $70 million-$75 million range, which means it may not be the summer’s most profitable blockbuster. However, the hype machine ensured that audiences won’t cancel “The Flash” alongside its troubled star.

Spoilers Ahead
Why Does Zero Tear Posters?
Zerocalcare is coming off the high of earning a Netflix show for his cartoons; he’s bought a house, is always busy making comics, and the only free time he gets is spent with his buddies Sarah and Secco. Although he...

Europe has been the center of a lot of controversies in recent times because of the refugee crisis, as nations like Italy, France, and Sweden have become the hotbeds of influxes of refugees from African and Asian nations. Set against the backdrop of such a refugee crisis in Rome, Italy, Zerocalcare brings to life his graphic novel collection about the observations he’s made in his town about all the things that strike him as odd. Michele Rech, under his pen name Zerocalcare or Zero, gets a show on Netflix where his comics are presented as animations, and it’s a short and entertaining ride, but it leaves you thinking by the time the final episode ends. Titled This World Can’t Tear Me Down, the 6-episode comedy series showcases themes of an identity crisis, the evils of addiction, internal struggles, and how friendship is the most important bond that we’ve got in this life.

‘Tis the season of gift giving, but when it comes to books, the choices can be overwhelming. This year has unleashed an endless selection of great options to fill those bookshelves, from fiction to graphic novels to nonfiction. Where do you even begin, you might be wondering?
These 13 books are excellent gifts for you or the horror-loving reader in your life.
Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives by Adam Cesare
Quinn, Rust, and Cole are still reeling from their traumas of surviving the Kettle Springs massacre when it seems to be starting anew. It’s a breakneck slasher sequel that doesn’t waste any time getting to the action and suspense. Cesare understands slashers- and, more importantly, slasher sequels- and crafts a strong narrative around the hardened survivors from the first novel. In true slasher sequel style, the body count is higher along with the brutal deaths that hurt.

Temple Hill Entertainment has had great success with the horror movie Smile, which has earned almost 200 million at the global box office – so it’s no surprise they have just lined up another horror project. Deadline reports that Temple Hill will be producing an adaptation of the Adam Cesare novel Clown in a Cornfield (pick up a copy Here), with Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil and Little Evil‘s Eli Craig on board to direct the film.
Clown in a Cornfield will tell the story of a fading midwestern town, in which Frendo the clown – a symbol of bygone success – reemerges as a terrifying scourge. Cesare’s novel has the following description:
Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half.

The producers behind 2022's horror hit "Smile" are wasting no time in lining up their next project. And this one has a creepy clown in it! Plus, it is coming from the same director who gave us "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." The project in question? An adaptation of author Adam Cesare's novel "Clown in a Cornfield." It's early stages, but the pieces on the board are promising.
According to Deadline, Eli Craig has been tapped to direct the film, which is a joint venture between Protagonist and Temple Hill. Carter Blanchard, an uncredited writer on "Independence Day: Resurgence," has been tapped to pen the screenplay. "We love Eli Craig's brand of scary fun and are thrilled to be working with him on this terrifying slasher adaptation that is both timely and timeless," said Temple Hill producers in a statement. Paramount’s Smile, in theaters Sept. 30, is the latest fright flick to benefit from a sinister grin. But the granddaddy of all scary smile films dates back to 1928, when Universal Pictures released The Man Who Laughs, an adaptation of the 1869 Victor Hugo novel.
The studio had success with another Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which it had adapted into a Lon Chaney showcase in 1923. Chaney would physically transform once again into a deformed gothic antihero — this time, Gwynplaine, a nobleman’s son who is hideously disfigured when the king orders a permanent smile carved into his face. But the project was sidelined because of a rights issue, and Chaney instead made 1925’s The Phantom of the Opera, based on the 1910 Gaston Leroux novel. That film was a hit, too, so Universal chief Carl Laemmle resurrected Laughs for its next “super-production.”
