Kevin Parker, the mastermind behind Tame Impala and songwriter and producer for dozens of artists including Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Travis Scott, Lady Gaga, and many more, has sold his songwriting catalog to Sony Music Publishing.
In addition to all of Parker’s past releases, the new publishing deal encompasses all of Parker’s future releases with Tame Impala and beyond. The details of the acquisition have not been announced, but Parker wrote in a statement that, “The idea of passing on ownership of my songs is one that I don’t think about very lightly, at all. They are the fruit of my blood, sweat and creativity over all the years I’ve been a recording artist and songwriter so far.”
He continued, saying “I have a lot of love and trust for the Sony publishing family and have only had great experiences with Damian Trotter and the rest of the gang worldwide.

Dua Lipa’s new album Radical Optimism has arrived, and though it’s been met with mixed reception from critics and fans alike, it has debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 2.
Featuring a neo-psychedelia-inspired sound with significant contributions from Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Radical Optimism is Lipa’s first full-length release since 2020’s Future Nostalgia. As Consequence’s Mary Siroky wrote in her review, the album’s 11 songs show that Lipa is “ready to soak up the sun and dance,” though the album as a whole “might not be quite as radical as one might have hoped.”

In the video for Dua Lipa’s Barbie hit, “Dance the Night,” an enormous disco ball crashes onto the floor, the bottom half of its mirrors shattering into a million pieces. In an interview, her collaborator Mark Ronson theorized that it signified the end of Lipa’s disco era, putting a bow on 2020’s now-classic Future Nostalgia.
Released during the pandemic, that blockbuster LP turned Lipa into a household name and ushered a disco revival into the pop galaxy. The present was bleak, but Future Nostalgia promised one hell of a good time.

At the root of “radical behaviorism,” a concept popularized by psychologist B.F. Skinner in the 1970s, is the belief that all behavior is the result of external conditioning and can thus be controlled. Think Pavlov’s dog. The title of Dua Lipa’s third studio album, Radical Optimism, nods to Skinner’s concept, but the British pop singer’s conviction that finding joy amid the chaos of life is simply a choice is more akin to that of a self-help book or the principles of Burning Man, which emphasize an empowering sense of self-reliance and expression.
“I know the mind is quick to throw away the moment,” Lipa pronounces on “Falling Forever,” a rollicking barnburner about keeping the lovelights aflame. She dispenses similar nuggets of wisdom and affirmations—often directed at herself—throughout Radical Optimism, acknowledging her control issues on “Whatcha Doing” while at the same time finding a bit...

In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Dua Lipa returned to Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday (January 9th) to get hammered once again and cement her friendship with Meyers by getting matching tattoos.
After getting plastered together during Meyers’ “Day Drinking” segment in December, the duo reconvened to gulp down shots of tequila from the slide of a massive Barbie Dreamhouse. Then, they sat down with a tattoo artist named Bang Bang to get inked together.
Although Meyers initially suggested getting “a solitary dot” for his first tattoo, Lipa insisted they get “a little star” instead. Clearly nervous about the prospect, the late night host took a few shots before getting tattooed on his right calf.
Elsewhere in the episode, Lipa sat down with Meyers for a more traditional interview, in which they spoke about the infamous “Day Drinking” segment when the singer got too drunk to finish. After recalling how they did 12 shots in “like 45 minutes,...

Dua Lipa joined Seth Meyers for the latest installment of the “Day Drinking” segment from his Late Night show.
The two “enjoyed” cocktails and played drinking games inspired by “Houdini.” Later, they played a game called “Idgaf” in which they answered an embarrassing question or took a shot, leading Meyers to name John Oliver as his least favorite late night host and confirm he has a favorite child. Meanwhile, Dua revealed her favorite Albanian swear sword and lamented about how fashion designers next think about the “drunk girls” when creating outfits.
The segment arrives as Dua Lipa is on the tails of her latest release, “Houdini,” a colorful pop track produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. The track was named Consequence’s Song of the Week when it debuted, and arrives ahead of a full, psychedelia-inspired album due sometime in 2024, which will feature more contributions from Parker.

The Beatles knew how to derive inspiration from the most unlikely places. A guru gave a lecture that inspired John Lennon and Paul McCartney to write songs. Paul’s song appeared on The White Album while John’s became one of his most notable solo ballads.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney initially wrote songs with similar names
During a 1980 interview from the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, John discussed his feelings about the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, his former guru. “Listen, if somebody’s gonna impress me, whether it be a Maharishi or a Yoko Ono, there comes a point when the emperor has no clothes,” he said. “There comes a point where I will see. So for all you folks out there who think that I’m having the wool pulled over my eyes — well, that’s an insult to me.

Dua Lipa is ready to move on from the disco influence of her last album, Future Nostalgia, into psychedelic territory. Reportedly helping the pop star make the journey is Kevin Parker, the leader of the psych-rock act Tame Impala.
As described in a new profile published in The New York Times Style Magazine, Lipa’s third studio album, due out in 2024, will be “informed” by “1970s-era psychedelia” as opposed to the house and disco instrumentals that powered hits from Future Nostalgia like “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical.” Parker has been rumored to be one of the musicians in the small group of songwriting collaborators working on the upcoming record.
According to The Times, Lipa “all but confirm[ed]” the rumor when she said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about” in response to a question about it and laughed a little while looking away. It’s worth noting,...

In 2020, 18-year-old Billie Eilish’s alternative pop album that was created in her Los Angeles bedroom helped her become the youngest act to sweep the top four categories at the Grammys.
A year later, the pop-rock sound of Olivia Rodrigo made her a global superstar and the poster child for modern teen angst. That same year, fellow 17-year-old The Kid Laroi topped the charts with his Justin Bieber-assisted banger “Stay.” And in 2022, Yahritza Martínez, of the trio Yahritza y Su Esencia, was 14 when she wrote “Soy el Único,” which became a No. 1 Latin hit and reached No. 20 on the pop charts.
And let us not forget about the phenomenon of “Baby Shark.”
Young talent has always been a good investment for the music industry. It’s an area that Republic Records — home to Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Ariana Grande — is focusing on with the launch of a children’s division.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of 2010’s InnerSpeaker Memories, Tame Impala has released a short film documenting the making of the seminal album. The footage was captured during the recording of the album at Australia’s Wave House Studio by Matt Sav.
In the 15-minute film, the footage showcases band frontman Kevin Parker creating and producing the album, as well as listening to DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing in the car. It’s an interesting glimpse back at the making of Tame Impala’s formative album, which helped propel the group into the spotlight.

With late-night performers stuck in quarantine, artists have had to get a little creative with their at-home setups.
Last month on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Haim gave their rendition of “I Know Alone” a little pizazz by adding a laser light show to their bedrooms. And, on Monday night, also on Colbert, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala cloned himself for a performance of “Is It True,” from his latest album The Slow Rush.

The Streets have returned with “Call My Phone Thinking I’m Doing Nothing Better,” a new track featuring Tame Impala. The song marks the U.K. rap project’s first new music in nine years, following 2011’s Computers and Blues.
The song’s video features the Streets’ Mike Skinner trying to call Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker as a vintage Nokia phone displays “Social Distancing” on its screen. “Callin’ call my phone thinking, I’m doing nothing better,” Skinner sings, sitting on a ski lift. Tame Impala has shared a remixed version of their recent album, The Slow Rush. Titled The Slow Rush in an Imaginary Place, the new edition has been edited to sound like it’s being played from another room.
“I made something for all you isolators out there,” Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker wrote on Twitter. “I call it The Slow Rush in an Imaginary Place. Headphones required for full immersive effect. See you in there.”
Tame Impala released The Slow Rush in February, marking the band’s first LP since 2015’s Currents.

The afternoon before he released his latest album, the Weeknd put out a press release in which he offered a hopeful promise for his new work: “Let the music heal us all during these dark times.” Such communitarian concern hasn’t often been his hallmark. He’s always been one of pop’s top emotional distancers, instilling the Top 40 with his brooding vision as he plays the disaffected R&b lothario — from the sepulchral sad-boy swagger of his landmark 2011 goth ‘n’ B opus House of Balloons to hits like his...

Tame Impala served as the guides for a heady nostalgia trip with their performance of “Lost in Yesterday” on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday.
The Australian psych-rock outfit delivered a pristine rendition of the Slow Rush track, which is anchored by a thick bassline and crisp, clever drumming, while a flurry of synths mingles with frontman Kevin Parker’s soft voice. “And you’re gonna have to let it go someday,” Parker sings, “You’ve been digging it up like Groundhog Day/ Cause it might’ve been something, don’t say...

“If you asked me five years ago to do a full original album with this band, I’d say, ‘Tear my heart out and leave it on the floor,'” Yacht Rock Revue singer Nick Niespodziani says.
It’s hard to tell if he’s being hyperbolic.
The 41-year-old frontman of the Atlanta-based tribute band has always been conflicted about his gum-chewing, polyester-wearing, hair-feathering throwback group. In his eyes, it was a way to make a living, not a serious creative outlet. Besides, he had other projects to flex that muscle,...

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker pays homage to his late father in their new song “Posthumous Forgiveness.” It will appear on the band’s upcoming The Slow Rush, which is the follow-up to 2015’s Currents. Their new 12-song LP is due February 14th.
The sprawling song, which Parker wrote and produced, is awash in a haze of memories as it opens. “Ever since I was a small boy/No one else compared to you, no way,” he sings over a melancholic, psychedelic-tipped soundscape. “I always thought heroes stay close/Whenever troubled times arose.

Americana band the Punch Brothers and Australian psych-rock band Tame Impala occupy pretty different points along the rock music continuum. But that didn’t stop the roots band comprised of Chris Thile (mandolin), Gabe Witcher (violin, drums), Noam Pikelny (banjo) and Chris Eldridge (guitar) and Paul Kowert (bass) from covering a song with which they are mutually obsessed: Tame Impala’s gauzy 2016 single, “Let It Happen,” for the Spotify Singles series. But it wasn’t without challenges.
“Tame Impala recordings aren’t possible without the studio,” said Chris Thile on the Under Cover podcast.
