Dr. Charles could have had a powerful story.
He spent the hour trying to find answers about a patient's suicide while her husband refused to let her go despite her irreversible coma. Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 10 offered a sad story, but it wasn't as emotional as it might have been because of how it was all resolved.
[Note: This review contains discussions of suicide that could be upsetting for some readers.]
The story started perfectly, with June's husband asking why his wife chose to end her life and blaming himself while Charles reassured him that it wasn't his fault.
Nathan: What if the problem was me? Bad husband, neglecting her... what if I"m ther season she jumped?
Charles: Nathan, no. The reasons people take their own lives are mysterious and complex and it's rarely any one thing or one person.

Charles' reassurance probably seemed like empty words to Nathan.

Chicago Fire has proven itself over the course of its twelve-season run.
One of its most senior cast members, Taylor Kinney, has given the show (and its fans) plenty to love in his years of playing Kelly Severide.
Because Kinney took a leave of absence during Season 11 following a mysterious personal matter, fans have long feared that a more permanent absence could be on the horizon for Severide.
Given how much character development had been invested into Severide, it's obvious why the show opted to keep his future open while Kinney was on leave.
Good thing, too, because he came back in Season 12 with a bang and seems to be home for good — at least for now.
Severide and his relationship with his wife, fellow firefighter Stella Kidd, have been a huge point of interest for the show.
Fans love their chemistry, and we all enjoyed watching them get their happy ending.

Chicago Med hiatus: When does the show return and what should fans expect from the next new episode?
Chicago Med is still on an extended spring hiatus as the show takes a break before racing toward the season finale.
Some fans may already be upset that the One Chicago shows have taken such a long break during April, but new episodes are on the horizon.
As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes paused the production of the NBC dramas. It delayed the new seasons from premiering for many months.
When the shows finally returned in January, Chicago Med fans were reminded that Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) had left the show.
Dr. Halstead’s final episode was the Season 8 finale, where he quit working at the hospital and traveled to Seattle. When he got off the plane, he was greeted by Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and her daughter.
Several new doctors have joined the fold on the Chicago Med cast this season, adding some freshness to the show.

Watching Chicago Fire has always felt nostalgic, even in the beginning.
The pacing, the dialogue, and the often unrealistic (but still highly entertaining) storylines are reminiscent of the daytime soap operas that you might remember from spending sick days off school at your grandma's house.
To be clear, that's the highest compliment a show could receive.
The thing about Chicago Fire is that it blends soapy tropes with all the best aspects of primetime TV and delivers a fun, emotional, steamy product as a result.
Who doesn't love a show that can make you laugh, cry, roll your eyes, and cringe all in the same episode?
Chicago Fire is fast-paced. The writers love to jam as much into an hour as they possibly can, and it works because it keeps us focused throughout the episode.
It's hard to find other shows that are similarly paced, but daytime soap operas come close.

Bert's breakdown at Sharon's party was utterly heartbreaking.
Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 9 offered a glimpse into the insidious nature of dementia. Bert was only in a few scenes, but his transformation from mostly with it to forgetting he didn't live with Sharon anymore to his grief over realizing his mistake was painfully realistic.
It was an hour filled with tough calls, but that was the scene that got me -- and it wasn't even at the hospital.
Sharon will always share a special bond with Bert even though they've both moved on. It would be less pronounced if he didn't have Alzheimer's and wasn't becoming aggressive during non-lucid moments, but it would be there no matter what.
Sharon knew how to calm Bert down, but it was hard to tell what her new boyfriend thought as she held Bert's hand and sang to him. Logically, there's no reason for Dennis to be jealous.

Chicago Med alum Torrey DeVitto gave a new interview exploring why she returned to the show.
Torrey played Dr. Natalie Manning for the first six seasons of Chicago Med, most of which had her character in a relationship with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).
Her character had to leave the hospital after it was discovered that she was stealing drugs from a drug trial to help her mom.
Those drugs worked, keeping her mom around for much longer. Dr. Halstead tried to take the fall for Dr. Manning, but it didn’t work.
Torrey returned for the first episode of Season 7 to give her character closure. Will went to Natalie’s house to say goodbye to her and her son, giving them one final conversation before she finished packing her car to leave for Seattle.
Chicago Med fans were surprised when Torrey secretly returned to film a scene for the Season 8 finale.

The Chicago P.D. episode schedule has an upcoming break between new content.
After four new episodes to open Chicago P.D. Season 11, the show has a week off for fans.
Chicago Med and Chicago Fire will also take that week off as the shows continue filming new episodes.
Two Hollywood strikes delayed the current seasons of the One Chicago shows.
But NBC ensured that the Wednesday night lineup returned in January with brand-new episodes.
The bad news about the delays is that there are fewer episodes this time than in years past.

Archer came over from the military and had a friendship with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee).

It’s been a long wait for NBC’s Chicago Med to return with its 9th Season but with the premiere less than a week away (January 17), Deadline has some juicy nuggets to tease about the show’s return.
In the Season 8 finale, the medical drama said goodbye to Day 1-er Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) who handed in his resignation after finding himself more and more unsettled with the new changes implemented at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center following Jack Dayton’s purchase of the hospital. His main concern was Dayton’s insistence on using the O.R. 2.0. even after a machine error caused the death of a patient and could’ve also claimed Dayton’s life.
Dayton’s live surgery for investors cost him nearly all his money after showing the high-tech machine wasn’t ready for showtime. So to stay afloat financially, Dayton sells the hospital.

Change is coming to the One Chicago shows. Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med will all return in 2024 with new episodes. But fans will have to brace themselves for the departure of some much-loved characters in the upcoming seasons, as well as the introduction of at least one new face.
Kara Killmer leaving ‘Chicago Fire,’ Tracy Spiridakos out at ‘Chicago P.D.’

Chicago Fire Season 11 saw Taylor Kinney make a sudden (albeit temporary) exit due to a personal matter. And Chicago Med experienced some major changes in season 8, with Brian Tee (Dr. Ethan Choi), Nick Gehlfuss (Will Halstead), Guy Lockard (Dr. Dylan Scott), and Sarah Rafferty (Dr. Pamela Blake) all moving on from Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

More often than not, Dick Wolf franchises feel untouchable.
Depending on how well actor negotiations have gone regarding artificial intelligence, it wouldn't be entirely unsurprising if, 20 years from now, we still have an AI-generated rendition of Olivia Benson protecting and advocating for abuse survivors on Law Order: Svu.
There's longevity in the Dick Wolf series, whether it's the Law & Order franchise or One Chicago. And by now, viewers have grown accustomed to a revolving door of beloved characters and actors over the years to sustain the series.
But is there a breaking point to that? Will there ever be a point, at least for the One Chicago series, where too many casting changes and a different formula for screentime for budgetary purposes reach a point of no return?

NBC's Chicago Med is saying goodbye to another original star.
Chicago Med Season 8 concluded with Nick Gehlfuss departing as Dr. Will Halstead.
The good news? A pre-planned goodbye brought Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) into the fold.
If you watch Chicago Med online, you know the big episode wrapped up with Will and Natalie back together.
It's rare on TV nowadays to give characters a satisfying conclusion, but bringing Natalie back helped soften the blow of Will's departure.

It might take me all summer to come to terms with this one.
Will Halstead has always been the heart of Chicago Med. Other characters have come and gone, but he was the one constant we could count on.
This isn't the end of the series, but Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 22 certainly felt like the end of an era when Will walked out those doors for the final time -- and ended up in Seattle with Natalie.
Will's last act was to work with Grace to screw up Or 2.0 completely. I'm unhappy about that, though I'm even less pleased to lose Will.
Marcel was right that the tech had been helpful in many ways and that eradicating its credibility wasn't the way to go. Marcel was the one person Jack trusted -- he could have gotten Jack to sideline the project after the IPO and put Grace to work on fixing the glitches.

[This story contains spoilers for “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?,” the season eight finale of Chicago Med.]
Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) has been chafing under newly profit-centered management of the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center since Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) took control of the hospital. The season eight finale of Chicago Med brought his frustration to a head, when Dayton insisted on going through with a surgery assisted by his Or 2.0 system, under protest by Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains).
The routine hernia surgery goes fine — no thanks to 2.0, which shows a complication that’s not there. Halstead admits to Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) that he manipulated 2.0 to produce a bad result — and protects Dr. Song (T.V. Carpio), who hacked the system — and hands in his resignation letter. “What are we going to do without you?” Goodwin asks him.
The law of unintended consequences, however, might catch up to the rest of the staff at Med: Dayton tells Goodwin that the botched public demonstration of 2.0 has wrecked him financially,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?,” the Season 8 finale of “Chicago Med.”
Nick Gehlfuss is hanging up his lab coat. The actor, who has portrayed Dr. Will Halstead on all eight seasons of “Chicago Med,” has exited the series, making his final appearance on Wednesday night’s Season 8 finale. As Will left the hospital following the many changes at Gaffney, he reunited with his ex-fiancée, Natalie.
“It was a difficult decision, but ultimately, I felt I’d taken Dr. Halstead as far as I can go with him. I think that comes down to a creative part of you, or the energy or spirit you have that you’re either built for a very long time with one person or not,” Gehlfuss tells Variety. “I am attracted to the profession for the variety in it, and eight years is a long time.
