Netlfix has unveiled the first look trailer for a new comedy series titled Tires, the latest comedy concept featuring the comedian Shane Gillis in the lead role (as "Shane"). This was initially revealed as part of Netflix's annual "Netflix is a Joke Fest" comedy event, which is why the trailer is launching now to go along with the launch there. A new sit-com with a bunch of tire shop workers. The series is co-created by Gillis, Steven Gerben, and McKeever - all three credited as writers & exec producers. Shane Gillis drinks brews and poops in the customer restroom in the trailer for “Tires,” his workplace comedy series premiering May 23 on Netflix.
The six-episode scripted show follows Will (Steven Gerben), “the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain” who “attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis),” according to the logline.
“We can sit in here and sulk in the dark, or we can crawl our asses out in the sun and sell some fucking tires!” Gillis says in the trailer in an attempt to motivate the staff of Valley Forge Automotive Center.
Additional cast members include Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox, Stavros Halkias and guest star Andrew Schulz.
Gillis co-created the series with Gerben and John McKeever, who, with Gillis, forms one-half of the sketch comedy duo Gilly and Keeves. McKeever also serves as director of “Tires.

It was a long night for Tom Brady at his live Netflix comedy roast, as it was for the rest of us watching from home.
Starting with a bloody Oj Simpson jersey and ending with Brady smashing an iPhone on stage, the Netflix live event, “The Greatest Roast of All-Time: Tom Brady,” honored the seven-time Super Bowl champion. The modern-day legend faced his biggest challenge yet: being roasted by comedians and his former NFL teammates.
At times hilarious and at others a bit cringe-worthy, the unedited live event was a lengthy affair that made one truly appreciate the editors of the Comedy Central roasts. Their task was to condense the content into a concise, entertaining 60-minute presentation. Here, bits went on far too long, and former football players had glazed looks in their eyes in the background. The comedians who do this for a living performed incredibly well, while the others…...

After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. (The cast is covered under a different SAG-AFTRA contract than the one actors are currently striking against, so they can perform without crossing picket lines.)
The show’s cast returned intact from last season, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman moving up from featured players to repertory players. Chloe Troast joined the cast as a featured player.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter’s updating guide to season 49’s SNL hosts and musical guests.

The Movie Critic was set to be the tenth and final film from Quentin Tarantino, but according to Deadline, the director has decided to scrap the movie and start from scratch. That’s some shocking news.
It was expected that production on The Movie Critic would have gotten underway later this year, but the report states that Tarantino had recently rewritten the script, which caused a delay. This gave him time to think about what he truly wanted to be his final work, and apparently, that’s not The Movie Critic. Deadline said that Tarantino “simply changed his mind.“
Related Shane Gillis to star in Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic?
We never really knew all that much about The Movie Critic, only that it would be set in California in 1977 and would be “based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to...

When Saturday Night Live hired Shane Gillis as a featured player in 2019 only to let him go days later, it was big news. So much so that the show apparently considered referencing it on air.
Appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast this week, comedian Neal Brennan revealed a meta sketch he wrote for the show that week.
“The week Shane got fired—whatever, unhired—I thought of a sketch, and I was gonna be in New York.” Brennan, who co-created and co-wrote Chappelle’s Show with Dave Chappelle, explained. “I have sort of like an open-door policy at SNL where I could just write, because I wrote there with Dave. So I had a sketch idea…”
He went on to explain the premise: “It was a couple… They’re in bed, and they’re like, ‘So any, um, STDs you want to tell me about?’ And they’re like,...

After making a 36-second cameo appearance on last week’s Saturday Night Live, Ryan Gosling returned to host the show for the third time in his career. The Fall Guy star’s screen time of just over 26 minutes is the fifth highest for a Season 49 host, behind those of Bad Bunny, Shane Gillis, Pete Davidson and Ramy Youssef.
Scroll down to see how Gosling stacked up against each of the show’s named performers, including musical guest Chris Stapleton and former cast member Kate McKinnon. Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the show’s opening credits, bumpers and goodnights are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.

A star-studded group of veteran “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts were on hand this evening to welcome Kristen Wiig into the “Five-Timers Club.” But much to Wiig’s chagrin, most of them haven’t matched her feat of actually hosting “SNL” five times.
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member made her fifth appearance as host — having previously hit the stage in 2013, 2016 and twice in 2020.
The stolen “SNL” valor actually began with a legit five-timer: Paul Rudd, on hand to welcome her from the audience..
“As a former cast member, it is very special,” Wiig said. “I’m really excited about getting my jacket tonight… they don’t just hand the jackets off to anyone.”
Well, not quite. Soon more stars came out: Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Martin Short and Ryan Gosling. None of whom haven actually hosted five times yet.

Ramy Youssef may not be a household name, but his self-titled comedy series "Ramy" on Hulu landed him Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, not to mention a Peabody Award in 2020. So, he's got the right amount of experience and accolades to be called up to host "Saturday Night Live." Furthermore, Youssef is an established stand-up comedian, joining the likes of Nate Bargatze and Shane Gillis as hosts this season. But how did he handle the live sketch comedy of "SNL" in his hosting debut?
Well, Ramy Youssef doesn't seem to have much versatility when it comes to providing a variety of characters, and "SNL" leaned back on familiar formulas like talk shows and game shows, though they still delivered some hearty laughs. But there were also some amusing, peculiar sketches in this episode, and of course, big laughs...

Neal Brennan begins his forthcoming Netflix special with a disclaimer of sorts.
“If you’re watching this because you saw my other Netflix specials and I talked about having depression and you wanted to support a fellow traveler, I have some terrible news,” he says at the top of his new hour, “I feel pretty great.”
Then, rather than linger on his own mental health journey, which he explored in previous critically acclaimed specials 3 Mics and Blocks, he spends a healthy portion of Crazy Good joking about the perks or upside of “bad mental health.” Doing anything else with his latest set, which will premiere on Netflix April 9, felt disingenuous to Brennan, who broke out as the co-creator of Chappelle’s Show in the early ’00s and has segued, more recently, from comic whisperer to comic star.

“Saturday Night Live” will welcome former cast member Kristen Wiig and “I’m Just Ken” crooner Ryan Gosling to Studio 8H, where the two will host the venerable sketch show on April 6 and 13, respectively.
Wiig will be joined by musical guest Raye, and Gosling will share the stage with Chris Stapleton. As previously announced, the March 30 episode of “SNL” will be hosted by Ramy Youssef with musical guest Travis Scott.
Wiig, who was a “Saturday Night Live” cast member from 2005 to 2012, hosts for the fifth time — so it’s likely some “SNL” legends could make a surprise appearance to welcome her into the coveted Five-Timers Club. She stars in and executive produces the new Apple TV+ series “Palm Royale,” premiering March 20.

CAA is adding to its ranks.
The agency has hired Saraphina Monaco as an agent in its television talent department. She’ll be based at CAA’s Century City office and will focus on identifying and creating acting opportunities for the agency’s comedy touring clients — which includes several A-list comedians — in film and television.
Monaco joins CAA from A3 Artists Agency, where she spent five years as a talent agent in its theatrical division. The agency ceased operations in February. Prior to that, Monaco worked at Buchwald, in both its New York and Los Angeles offices, and Prestige Talent Agency. She began her career as an assistant at Aquila/Wood Casting and also has experience at a few boutique agencies.

With cameras set to roll on Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic this year, it’s only a matter of time before we find out who will play the titular character. A handful of names have circled the role, like Paul Walter Hauser, but that one fell apart due to last year’s industry strikes. Now, the latest is Shane Gillis, the stand-up comedian who was sacked from Saturday Night Live before even making it to air.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed over who will play the lead in The Movie Critic at this point, and it could all go away just as quickly as Shane Gillis’ stint on SNL. As you might remember, Gillis was hired and fired within one week back in 2019, when it was discovered that he had used racist and homophobic slurs on his podcast the year prior. Ramy Youssef will host the next “Saturday Night Live” episode, airing on March 30, with Travis Scott as the musical guest. This announcement was made during the March 9 “SNL” episode, which was hosted by Josh Brolin with Ariana Grande as the musical guest.
Youssef’s upcoming HBO comedy special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” debuts on March 23.
This season has included a slew of hosts — some controversial. While the March 2 episode saw Sydney Sweeney in her hosting debut and musical guest Kacey Musgraves, the women followed Shane Gillis — the comedian who was fired from “SNL” in 2019 due to racist, homophobic, Islamophobic and misogynistic jokes he made on his podcast and other media.
After these comments resurfaced on social media, a spokesperson on behalf of executive producer Lorne Michaels said at the time, “We want ‘SNL’ to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane...

Sydney Sweeney is still riding the shockwave that came from "Madame Web" bombing spectacularly hard at the box office. Though the mystifyingly terrible film set in Sony Pictures' own strange Marvel universe took the fourth place spot at the box office this weekend, where "Dune: Part Two" had no problem dominating, it just barely edged out the Fathom Events' special presentation of a couple of season 4 episodes of the Biblical series "The Chosen," and that's playing in nearly 1,000 fewer theaters (via Box Office Mojo). But that didn't stop Sweeney from cracking a joke at the expense of "Madame Web" and having a great time hosting "Saturday Night Live."
Though some would argue that Sydney Sweeney's range as an actress feels like it has limitations, her performance on "SNL" revealed that she has some eclectic comedic chops. In addition, despite not being known for her comedic skills, she had very little...

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Shane Gillis returned to the show as a weekly host after being fired in 2019.
Gillis opened the show with his monologue where he joked about Down syndrome, the LGBTQ community and other sensitive subjects. Gillis was previously fired from SNL after he was found making racial and homophobic slurs on a podcast in 2018. Gillis apologized on X, known as Twitter at the time.
His return to SNL seemed to stir negative reactions from the current cast and crew. The band members, notably guitarist Maddie Rice, gave Gillis outraged looks during his monologue. Fans say Rice’s expression was of “rage.”
Viewers began posting to X about the situation.
“Man, this woman in the SNL band is staring daggers at Shane Gillis throughout his entire monologue. Just completely and thoroughly displeased,” one user posted.

Shane Gillis’ Old SNL Skits Go Viral on Social Media After His Recent Monologue Draws Major Backlash
Stand-up comedian Shane Gillis is viewed as one of the most controversial comedians in recent memory. He was fired as a cast member of Saturday Night Live in 2019 before his debut for making racist remarks. However, he hosted the show recently and now his old skits have now gone viral on social media.

The comedian initially gained mainstream attention when announced as a new cast member for season 45 of “SNL” in September 2019. Unfortunately, he was fired shortly before the season premiere after a clip of him using an anti-Asian slur on his podcast went viral on Twitter. Gillis faced further backlash as additional clips of him using offensive language circulated online during that time.

If you tuned into "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in awhile, you may have taken a look at this weekend's host Shane Gillis and thought, "Who the hell is this?" Thankfully, the comedian rather self-aware of this surprising turn for "SNL," even acknowledging that he probably shouldn't be on the stage in Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. That's because, a few years ago, Gillis was actually hired as a featured played for "SNL," but he was quickly fired from the show before his debut after some racially insensitive jokes from his own comedy podcast came to light and created a swell of controversy around him. Gillis seems to regret those comments, as he implored those unfamiliar with him not to Google what got him into trouble, but he didn't exactly apologize, so it's still a fairly awkward situation all around.
Speaking of awkward, that's pretty much what we got for this entire episode.

Shane Gillis acknowledged the elephant in the room right away – sort of.
“Yeah, I’m here,” said the comedian, who seemed as bemused as anyone else that he was actually hosting Saturday Night Live. “Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I was actually fired from this show a while ago – but don’t look that up, please. If you don’t know who I am, please, don’t Google that. Don’t even worry about it.”
For those still unaware, I’ll respect Gillis’ wishes and save you a search: In 2019 Shane Gillis was hired and then four days later famously un-hired as a new SNL cast member after clips from his podcast resurfaced in which he uttered anti-Chinese and homophobic slurs. He also just performed at the 2024 Grammys with Burna Boy and Brandy for “Sittin’ On Top of the World,” which received a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Watch Shane Gillis‘ opening monologue, which referenced why he was fired from the show.

Saturday Night Live host Shane Gillis sported a mullet and a southern accent to play Ricky Monroe, an alum of Greenbow High School who graduated alongside Forrest Gump.
Mikey Day got to channel the Tom Hanks character while Gillis’ Ricky recalled fond memories of chasing Forrest in a truck and throwing rocks at him.
“Goddamn he was dumb,” Ricky said to former classmates. “Remember how he was always saying momma, life is like a box of chocolates.”
But then Ricky realizes just how much he underestimated Forrest, who goes on to win the reunion trophy for the most successful graduate. Ricky’s shocked to learn that Forrest is a billionaire while he only owns two jet skis.
Ricky then tries to interfere with Forrest’s shoutouts to his mom, his longtime love Jenny, his close friend Bubba and Lieutenant Dan who lost his legs in Vietnam — all to disastrous results.

Shane Gillis is known for his Donald Trump impersonations on stage, and he brought the character to his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live.
In a parody of a movie trailer for “White Men Can Trump from Newsmax Studios,” Gillis plays an average guy named Gordon Dwyer who “can’t catch a break” at work, in love and on the basketball court. But when he receives a pair of Trump’s recently unveiled $399 branded sneakers from the ex-president, his life changes.
No, his basketball skills do not improve with the sneakers on; he still badly misses. But, physically transforming into Trump, complete with the famous comb-over hair, he tells his friends, “I didn’t miss, it went in,” and they buy it. Because “winning is a state of mind.”
As Gordon later explains, the sneakers “give me the power to say I’m good at basketball and then double-down on...

Shane Gillis brought his famous impression of former president Donald Trump to the Feb. 24 episode of “Saturday Night Live” in a faux movie trailer that took aim at the president’s new line of expensive speakers.
The faux trailer for “White Men Can Trump” had Gillis’ everyman character getting a magical pair of Donald Trump’s new line of gold high tops — which retail for $399 — and his life becoming infinitely better. Yet instead of actually making him better at basketball, the sneakers make him an expert at Trump’s unique brand of gaslighting, suddenly able to convince people he’s making baskets when he isn’t.
“They gave me the power to say I’m good at basketball, then double down on that until people actually start to believe it,” Gillis’ character says.
From there, he’s able to convince his boss he deserves a bigger office, a scale that...

Comic Shane Gillis debuted as Saturday Night Live host by first joking about his extremely brief stint on the late night show back in 2019 that ended after controversial comments of his from the year prior resurfaced.
“Yeah. I’m here,” Gillis began his monologue. “Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I was actually fired from this show awhile ago. But, you know, don’t look that up! Please, if you don’t know who I am, please don’t Google that. It’s fine, don’t even worry about it.

Comedian and podcaster Shane Gillis made a strong effort in his return to Studio 8H on Saturday night, but as he acknowledged through his nearly 10 minutes on stage, many of his jokes didn’t quite land with the live audience — probably because much of his popular routine is not network TV-friendly.
Gillis, who hosts the wildly popular Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, returned to Saturday Night Live as its host five years after he was fired from the cast. In 2019, the 36-year-old was abruptly sacked when racist and homophobic jokes he made on his show surfaced.
His return to the long-running late-night series after losing one of the most sought-after gigs in comedy, started out rough, making those TV spots for his hosting debut prescient. Gillis opened with a nod to his history at the show, telling the audience not to Google it — and said he probably shouldn’t...

Saturday Night Live set its sights on The Floor, Fox’s new game show hosted by Rob Lowe that has contestants facing off in a series of quiz duels.
On SNL’s version, tonight’s host Shane Gillis played the defending champion David, who triumphed in the first round by correctly identifying a glass of orange juice.
But when it came time to identify famous faces, Gillis was continually stumped by a series of pictures featuring Black politicians and personalities. As pictures of Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou, Colin Powell and Aretha Franklin flashed on the screen, a panicked Gillis said things like “I know him, but I’m nervous” or “I’m a huge fan of hers” without saying their actual names.
Fear even had him miss the names of Stephen Curry and Oprah Winfrey.
But when an image of Cleveland from Family Guy appears, Gillis’ David gets it right.
