Last week, City Harvest, New York City’s first and largest food rescue organization, presented The 40th Anniversary Gala: House of Harvest, hosted by actor, model and producer Tyson Beckford, with décor by world-renowned celebrity event planner Colin Cowie.
The evening raised enough to provide more than 9.6 million meals for New Yorkers in need as they continue to grapple with record-high food costs, the end of federal aid programs, and the continued economic impacts of the pandemic.
The event honored the organization’s longtime Board Chair Jim Kallman and City Harvest’s frontline workers who were at the forefront of the organization’s work to help feed New Yorkers in need at the height of and throughout the pandemic. These frontline heroes helped rescue and distribute nearly 300 million pounds of food for New Yorkers across all five boroughs between March 2020 and June 2022 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fox‘s Hell’s Kitchen: Battle of the Ages winner Alex Belew may have been favored to win by the fanbase, but Belew had his doubts during the grueling competition.
“The first couple of weeks I really was just trying to survive day to day,” Belew told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “The first plan was just don’t go home first because that would suck.” But then he felt a shift as he dominated challenge after challenge, taking on the wing competition and making the perfect lobster.
“Watching it kind of unfold on T.V., I’m like, Who is that guy?” he wondered, describing how watching himself on TV didn’t match what he was feeling during the Hell’s Kitchen experience.

Three home cooks were sent packing in last week’s double episode of “MasterChef.” First, the duo of Amanda Saab and Derrick Fox succumbed to their inability to properly communicate during the wall challenge. Judges Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez and Joe Bastianich said their Crispy Skin Duck with Moroccan-Style Couscous, Romanesco and Blood Orange Gastrique tasted like cough syrup. Next, the Top 6 took over Spago for renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck. Willie Mike led his Blue Team to a loss and was eliminated for his poor effort.
In our recent poll, where we asked you to pick which chef-testant you think deserved to be eliminated, the majority agreed it was time for Willie (28) and Amanda (26) to go. But most people were upset to see Derrick leave. Instead, Shanika Patterson received the third most votes at 22. Dara Yu was next at 15 followed by Derrick at 5 and Michael Silverstein with 4.

A triple elimination took place on “MasterChef” last night when Episode 16 and Episode 17 of Season 12 aired back-to-back on Fox. The Top 8 were paired together and tasked with communicating on opposite sides of a wall to create identical dishes with a double elimination on the line. Judges Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez and Joe Bastianich sent Amanda Saab and Derrick Fox home for poor communication and a bad Crispy Skin Duck with Moroccan-Style Couscous, Romanesco and Blood Orange Gastrique.
Next, the Top 6 took over Chef Wolfgang Puck’s kitchen at the famous Spago restaurant in Los Angeles. Willie May failed to show the leadership qualities it takes to win and was asked to turn in his apron at the end of the night. Do you think Amanda, Derrick and Willie deserved to get the boot this week? Vote below in our poll.

Viewers got a double dose of “MasterChef” last night when Episode 12 and Episode 13 aired back-to-back on Fox. In our recent poll, where we asked you to pick which chef-testant you think deserved to be eliminated, 72 said Tommy deserved to go home after his third week in the Bottom 3. In the episode, the 15 remaining chefs were challenged to replicate a delicious dessert.

Cate Meade was sent packing on Episode 5 of “MasterChef: Back to Win” after landing in the bottom three alongside Tommy Walton and Dara Yu. The 30-year old from Chicago failed to put her Stone Fruit Spiced Cake with Bourbon Caramel Sauce and Creme Fraiche Chantilly Cream in the oven on time. It resulted in raw, disassembled bits of dessert strewn across the judges’ plates. Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez and Joe Bastianich eliminated the Season 8 veteran after calling her dish “a disaster.”

In January, Fox's "MasterChef Junior" visited New York, Chicago and Dallas seeking the season-two competitors. There was also an open call in Los Angeles.
On hand were some of young chefs from the first season, who happen to live in the L.A. area, including Sarah Lane and runner-up Dara Yu -- and Troy Glass, who was auditioning in hopes of getting a return appearance (no word on whether he made it, sorry).
Yu, wearing her trademark red bow, says she keeps in touch with her fellow competitors -- including winner Alexander Weiss, with whom she video chats from his home in New York City.
"Whenever I'm around them," she tells Zap2it, "I just feel myself, very comfortable."
Although the 12-year-old didn't win and hasn't yet decided on whether to just keep pursuing cooking as a lifelong passion or also as a career, Yu has already accomplished one of her goals.

Spoiler ahead. Which! Of these two kind, genuine, well-spoken adolescents — a rarity! on any television program — rose to the top and won the Stunning! title of first-ever MasterChef Junior? And the winner is….
Alexander!
After a grueling three-course final challenge, it seems an ambitious dessert (deconstructed “Napoleon” cannoli with marscapone and mixed berries) gave just the slightest edge to soft-spoken pastry cherub Alexander Weiss, 13, from NYC. Runner-up Dara Yu, 12, an inflatable bow headband enthusiast from Los Angeles, wowed judges Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich almost as much, especially with her technically proficient appetizer of ahi tuna prepared two ways.

"MasterChef Junior," the surprise hit of the fall, wrapped up its inaugural season on Fox on Friday (Nov. 8), with judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot deciding which finalist would take home the MasterChef trophy and the $100,000 prize.
For their final challenge, Dara Yu (12) and Alexander Weiss (13) were tasked to create a perfectly composed three-course meal, consisting of an appetizer, entree and dessert, in just 90 minutes. After a quick trip to the pantry, the awe-inspiring youngsters began to make the biggest meal of their lives.
Dara settled on a duo of ahi tuna for her appetizer, spot prawns with wontons in a Thai curry sauce for her entree and poached pears in a lemon ginger miso sauce for her dessert. For his menu, Alexander went with a basil lemon shrimp and heirloom tomato crostini for his appetizer, a pan-seared veal chop served over potato gnocchi with sage and shallot...

We enjoyed watching Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot play nice while it lasted. Ramsay crowned the first-ever winner of the U.S. version of MasterChef Junior on tonight's finale, the competition coming down in the end to 13-year-old Alexander Weiss vs. 12-year-old Dara Yu for the grand prize—a trophy, $100,000 and school yard bragging rights. MasterChef season four winner Luca Manfé was in the kitchen to help cheer the kids along as each tackled the task at hand: Preparing, in Joe's words, a "perfectly composed" three-course meal in 90 minutes. So, who took the cake? Pastry expert Alexander from New York, who was the frontrunner all along, or...
