UK production company Randan, Scottish slang for ’raucous partying’, is launching in Cannes with a slate of productions and backing from the UK Global Screen Fund.
It has been formed by Scotland-based producers Reece Cargan, founder of Bombito, and James Heath, managing director of commrcials outfit Mtp, where he will remain as exec producer for commercials work.
Three projects are in post-production: Rada Leonora’s In The Morning Light, about the life of surrealist artist Leonard Carrington. Closer collaboration between the Italian and Baltic states’ film industries will be given an additional boost with the creation of the €30,000 Baltic-Italian Co-Development Award.
Four film institutes – Lithuanian Film Centre, National Film Centre of Latvia, Estonian Film Institute and Italy’s Direzione Generale Cinema (MiBAC) – announced at the end of this year’s Baltic Event at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival that a call will now be launched for projects being developed between producers from Italy and partners from the Baltic states.

French outfit takes international rights to co-production.
French sales company Cat&Docs has picked up international distribution rights to the Lithuanian-Italian feature documentary I’ll Stand By You.
The film is directed by duo Virginija Vareikyte and Maximilien Dejoie, the pair previously collaborated on 2015 docu-drama When We Talk About Kgb, which screened at multiple festivals and was nominated for a Lithuanian Film Award.
Their new film is a co-production between Lithuania’s In Script and Italy’s M&N. It centres on two women, a psychologist and a police officer, who travel through the rural areas of their home town in Lithuania...

Projects from Serbia, Norway and the Czech Republic were among the winners at the 8th edition of the When East Meets West (Wemw) co-production forum held during this week’s Trieste Film Festival.
The three-day event ended on Tuesday evening with the presentation of Cannes Producers Network Award of free accreditation for Serbian writer-director Dusan Milic’s latest feature Darkling, which he describes as “arthouse with a touch of psychological horror”, and for Norwegian documentary filmmaker Hans Lukas Hansen’s “docu-fantasy” The Quest For Tonewood about the quest for the magical wood to make the finest violins in the world.
In addition, a Hot Docs Industry Pass was awarded to award-winning Serbian documentary filmmaker Srdjan Sarenac for his new project Prison Beauty Contest, which follows the staging...
