After shooting in countries such as Norway and his native Mexico, we can confirm that the Poland segment is now complete for Carlos Reygadas‘ sixth feature. Additionally, we’ve gathered that the Wake of Umbra (Estela de sombra) revolves around four friends traversing time and space, encountering one another in various incarnations, settings, and social roles. Polish producers include Beata Rzeźniczek, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska and Ewa Puszczyńska. It also looks like that this won’t be rushed for a possible Venice showcase and instead opt for a 2025 premiere and a possible return to Cannes? His first films recently got re-stored and will be made available via the Criterion folks.…...

Coinciding with its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Warsaw-based New Europe Film Sales has provided Variety with an exclusive peek at the trailer for Chilean writer-director Fernando Guzzoni’s (“Jesus”) thriller, “Blanquita.”
Based on the young witness at the center of the Spinak case, a scandal involving Chilean pedophilia and prostitution networks that rocked the country, the film grapples with morality and the struggle towards justice for those without means.
In the film, Blanca (Laura López) leads investigators, and the public, on a baffling journey as she plants herself at the center of a trial against powerful politicians.
“I think that what seduced me about the case is how a girl who was an outsider kept the entire Chilean community on edge for almost a year,” relayed Guzzoni.

The coronavirus pandemic couldn’t have arrived at a worse time for Leszek Bodzak, the producer behind Jan Komasa’s Oscar-nominated “Corpus Christi.” With just five days to spare before principal photography was set to begin on “Leave No Traces,” the latest feature from acclaimed director Jan P. Matuszyński (“The Last Family”), Bodzak was forced to postpone the shoot.
Yet in the four months of hand-wringing before cameras finally began to roll last July, Bodzak’s French co-producer, Les Contes Modernes, was able to secure additional financing from Arte and regional French funds, giving the film’s budget a much-needed boost. “That was something unexpectedly good from the pandemic,” says Bodzak, whose Aurum Film is also prepping Komasa’s next project, “Shine of the Sun.”
