Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the season finale of CBS and MGM Television’s Clarice.
On Thursday, Clarice came to the end of its first (and likely final) season, presenting resolution in the case of the Anacostia River murders, as well as signs of personal growth on the part of the titular FBI agent, and a couple of major deaths.
By the time finale, “Family Is Freedom” kicks off, ViCap has uncovered most of the dark secrets of Alastar Pharmaceuticals and its emotionally disturbed CEO, Nils Hagen (Peter McRobbie). Putting her career on the line to aid them in their investigation is Clarice’s fellow agent and best friend, Ardelia (Devyn A. Tyler), who is told by her boss to stay out of the matter, but refuses to do so.
While it’s clear by the beginning of Episode 13 that Hagen is behind the aforementioned murders, one...

Clarice is poised to be silenced by CBS in the coming weeks.
The Silence of the Lambs prequel was initially set to move to Paramount+ following its low-rated CBS run, but now the series is in a more precarious position than before.
Deadline is reporting that talks between the streamer and co-producer MGM have fallen through, with neither side able to agree on a deal to keep the show alive.
The news is not that surprising. Clarice was reported to be in contention to move from Paramount+ alongside Evil and Seal Team, but when the streamer officially picked up the other two, Clarice was notably absent.
Moving a series from broadcast to streaming is not an easy business because it means that new deals have to be struck, and Deadline says that the license fee for the show was set to increase from the $1.2 million - $1.3 million fee on CBS...

It looks like Agent Starling will be turning in her badge. Last month, it looked like the Clarice TV show, was poised to move from the CBS network to the Paramount+ streaming service (along with Seal Team and Evil) for its second season. Now, Deadline reports it's looking more likely that the show will be cancelled instead.
Based on The Silence of the Lambs, the Clarice TV series stars Rebecca Breeds, Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler, and Marnee Carpenter. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Breeds) as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the hunt for serial killer Buffalo Bill (Simon Northwood). Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to...

Clarice Episode 11
Clarice, episode 11, “Achilles Heel,” could almost be called the “I-told-you-so” episode. After half a season of knocking down Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) as a rogue, unreliable, dangerous or mentally unbalanced cop, almost every character who got screen time this season gets to say their version of “we should have listened to Clarice.” This bodes well for the investigation, but also for the psyches of her closest acquaintances.
In the last episode, Clarice decided Catherine Martin (Marnee Carpenter) had to face some consequences for her actions. The surviving victim of the serial killer Buffalo Bill took his mother hostage, not entirely intentionally, but functionally enough to warrant observation. Catherine’s mother, the Attorney General Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), is incensed over the idea her daughter is being victimized by the system, especially since she gave strict orders to the agent she forced to go rogue,...

Clarice Episode 10
Clarice, episode 10, “Motherless Child,” finally addresses the elephant in the room. Well, almost. The Silence of the Lambs spinoff is a series of almosts. Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) almost gets killed every episode, as well as nearly always coming to the edge of getting fired, sometimes twice in an installment.
Tonight, Clarice almost helps Catherine Martin (Marnee Carpenter), who almost kills Buffalo Bill’s mom, Lila Gumb (Maria Ricossa). She also almost helps Attorney General Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), who nearly fires her for it. Ultimately, neither one gets what they want, while Starling gets to decide what they deserve. Lila, who never wanted anything to begin with except to be left alone, loses even that. With great power comes greater entitlement.
Clarice also almost derails Agent Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler) in her fight for equal representation within the FBI. Adelia is...

“Seal Team” and “Clarice” could soon be on the move. Variety has learned from sources that there are plans taking shape to move the series off of CBS to the ViacomCBS streaming service Paramount Plus.
According to sources, the current plan would be to air a few episodes of the fifth season of “Seal Team” on CBS before moving it over to the streamer, though deals for this are still being worked out. The move would also likely mean a reduced episode count for the series, which ran for 22 episodes its first two seasons, then 20 in Season 3, and 16 in Season 4, with the Season 4 set to wrap up on May 26. “Clarice,” meanwhile would move to Paramount Plus for the entirety of its second season.
Reps for CBS and CBS Studios declined to comment.

In what could be a glimpse of the future of a symbiotic relationship between broadcast networks and their streaming siblings, I hear two high-profile CBS drama series on the bubble, Seal Team, and Clarice, will be moving to Paramount+ next season.
The deals are still being finalized but I hear the David Boreanaz-starring military drama, which is wrapping its fourth season, will kick off its fifth season on CBS next fall and air its first several episodes — likely four — on the broadcast network before migrating to Paramount+. Freshman Clarice‘s second season will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Reps for the streamer and CBS Studios, which produces both series, declined comment.
Already seen with the moves of A.P. Bio from NBC to Peacock, Search Party from TBS to HBO Max and Younger from TV land to Paramount+, broadcast/basic cable series, owned or co-owned by the net’s parent company,...

Clarice Episode 9
Clarice episode 9, “Silence is Purgatory,” offers a taste of temporary hell by exploring the connections of the show’s past and getting blocked from forward movement. The team is finally looking into the links between the River Murders and Alastor Pharmaceuticals. The company’s drug Reprisol is responsible for multiple cases of babies born with birth defects, and their well-connected attorney Joe Hudland (Raoul Bhaneja) keeps someone on the payroll just to kill anyone who steps forward.
“Silence is Purgatory” opens in the midst of the pre-shoe-leather phase of the investigation. The ViCAP team is working in the basement, out of sight from the prying eyes of the Bureau. They can’t even see each other that well. Even several levels beneath the FBI offices, behind closed doors, the agents are apparently still too wary to turn on the overhead lights. It makes...

Clarice Episode 8
Clarice episode 8, “Add-a-Bead,” mirrors the procedural with the psychological. Clarice (Rebecca Breeds) lets her emotions find a safe landing place as her ViCAP unit investigates the suicide of a medical student who jumped to her death.
The opening segments of Clarice episodes are very atmospheric and color the entire installment. The glass ball in the doctor’s office reflects deep memories, and Clarice reflexively responds. Dr. Renee Li (Grace Lynn Kung) is the psychiatrist the agent chose over all the doctors which were ordered by the agency, and it is because she speaks the same language.
The work, the work, it’s all about the work. Clarice just suffered post-traumatic stress in a job where trauma is a daily occurrence, take a day off. The hypnotist is very effective. Up until this point, Clarice would jump down the throat of anyone who so...

Clarice Episode 7
Clarice, episode 7, “Ugly Truth,” is a monster-of-the-week exploration of a cold case procedural. It also moves the overall arc along as true ugliness is found within. “Some monster killed two little kids,” Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler) says. The episode opens with a hideous image, foreshadowed and cinematically darkened by the growing buzz of a swarm of flies.
The opening shot is quite masterful. It takes a while for the idea to register that flies are drawn to dead things until just a moment before we see what died. The flies should be given credit, as they will continue to recur as both a character and mood-setter over the course of the early investigation. Clarice routinely plays with forced perspective and stalled chronology to move the inner story. The camera-work goes into overtime this episode as clues, details and emotional states are captured through the shifting flow of time.

Clarice, episode 6, “How Does It Feel to Be So Beautiful,” opens in the aftermath of Clarice’s (Rebecca Breeds) nearly-lethal encounter with the recently deceased Marilyn Felker, and it brings her back to square one. The ViCAP agent is put on administrative leave, ordered to return to therapy, and given a last supper by the Attorney General, Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson). But it begins with a regressive hypnosis session that opens up a world of moth-eaten fantasia.

Clarice Episode 5
Clarice, episode 5, “Get Right with God,” is the best episode of the season because the show gets right with The Silence of the Lambs. The series has been putting off most of the references, some by design, come contractually forced. Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) has done her level best to avoid talking about it, even in therapy. Clarice Episode 4
Clarice, episode 4, “You Can’t Rule Me,” is a misnomer. Unlike its source material, The Silence of the Lambs, it plays by a lot of rules. Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds), and the ViCAP unit she works at under Deputy Assistant Attorney General Paul Krendler (Michael Cudlitz) are under investigation for a regulation infraction. A witness died on their watch. The thing which raises the episode, however, is something we didn’t see coming, though it follows the rules.
Right after the spiel about what happened previously on Clarice, the head investigating agent, Krendler’s Bureau rival, Sa Anthony Herman (David Hewlett), goes through it again in the form of an accusation. To hammer the point home, autopsy scenes are intercut where we can see and, much more importantly, hear limbs being sawed through. It’s an effective opening which brings a very...

It's enjoyable to be one of the shiny new parts of a revival.
Just ask Lucca De Oliveira, who plays Tomas Esquivel on Clarice, airing at 10 p.m. Thursdays on CBS.
Actually, Clarice, from executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, should be considered a continuation rather than a revival.
It answers the question of what happened to fledgling FBI Agent Claire Starling after the events of the 1991 film “The Silence of the Lambs.”
Hint: She remains more than a little messed up, even though Attorney-General Ruth Martin, whose daughter Clarice saved Catherine in the film, has forced her onto her new serial killer-hunting ViCAP (Violent Criminal Apprehension Program) task force.
But Clarice isn't the only rookie on ViCAP. De Oliveira's character Esquivel, a former Army sniper, is still finding his way as well.

Clarice Episode 3
Clarice, episode 3, “Are You Alright?,” almost allows Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) to overcome the typecasting of her role in the events in the film The Silence of the Lambs. The federal cop practically changes the venue by sheer force of will, as if she could burn the idea of a serial killer from the network series. Sadly, her flame is still attracting too many moths.
The episode again begins in the therapist’s office, so we know the scene will be brief. Both the patient and the doctor appear to be sparring rather than psychoanalyzing. Every sentence is a game of chicken, and it begins to feel more like an interrogation than a session. What makes it interesting are the cuts, which bring doubt to the proceedings. Is Clarice being paranoid? Yes, of course, but that doesn’t mean no one’s after her.

Clarice Episode 2
Clarice episode 2, “Ghosts of Highway 20,” takes the series further from The Silence of the Lambs, and deeper into federal cop procedural territory. FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) went rogue at the end of the debut episode, “breaking the chain of command” and telling the press that an apprehended suspect just might not be a serial killer, but part of something larger. Now she is waiting for repercussions.
Clarice is already doing penance as the episode opens, counting off pushups to metal music. Pushups are a military punishment for rookie infractions and, back in the ‘90s, heavy metal music was blasted at hostile prisoners of war. To further distance themselves, the Vicap squad gets deployed to Tennessee. Starling’s superior officer, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Paul Krendler (Michael Cudlitz), only called her up there to keep an eye on her.
This is not a serial killer situation.
Two long shadows hang over Clarice, the new CBS drama following FBI agent Clarice Starling in the aftermath of her showdown with serial killer Buffalo Bill. The first shadow is cast by The Silence of the Lambs, the 1991 film that swept the top five Academy Awards categories that year, including a Best Actress Oscar for Jodie Foster as Clarice. The second shadow comes from Hannibal, the NBC drama about the other, far more iconic murderer from Silence, cannibal psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter.

If you’ve always wanted a deeper dive into the mind of The Silence of the Lambs‘ Clarice Starling, then CBS has a new show for you. Clarice, which takes place in 1993, aka a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs, will tell the “untold personal story” of Clarice Starling as she returns to the field. In the new CBS show, the very hard work of catching serial murderers and sexual predators will be made even more complicated by the high-stakes political world of D.C. The series comes from Star Trek‘s Alex Kurtzman and Rachel Getting Married‘s Jenny Lumet, and the first episode was directed by Maja Vrvilo, whom you may recognize from her recent, excellent work from both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Basically, Clarice is a new TV show to look out for—whether you are a fan of Thomas Harris’ work or not.

CBS has dropped the trailer for “Clarice,” its “Silence of the Lambs” sequel series. The drama picks up with Clarice Starling (played by Rebecca Breeds) one year after the events of the 1991 film, in which the FBI agent-in-training (then played by Jodie Foster) seeks the assistance of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) in catching another killer, in exchange for information about her unhappy childhood.
And, uh, let’s just say she’s not doing great after that whole traumatic experience, as the trailer only seems to indicate things are getting worse and worse for Ms. Starling as she returns to the field.

CBS is set to premiere a new TV series based on the Hannibal Lecter novels by Thomas Harris in 2021. Clarice will act as a sequel to the Oscar-winning The Silence of the Lambs and star FBI agent Clarice Starling. Famously, Jodie Foster’s character consulted with Anthony Hopkins’ Dr. Lecter in the 1991 hit thriller, but don’t expect any appearance or even reference to the infamous cannibal in this series. The producers don’t even have the rights to mention him by name, let alone feature him on screen.
This news was confirmed by Entertainment Weekly’s preview of Clarice, which features a chat with EP Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Discovery). He admitted that he doesn’t fully understand the complicated rights issues surrounding Harris’ characters, but he did say that he and his writing team found it “freeing” to avoid Hannibal as he’s already been portrayed so many times before.

When CBS Friday announced a series order for Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice starring Rebecca Breeds, the announcement included three key new cast members whose deals had closed after the coronavirus pandemic suspended all pilot production in mid-March, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow and Michael Cudlitz.

Penn co-created, executive produced and starred in the freshman comedy series, which has not been officially canceled by NBC. CBS has picked up three new series for next season: The Equalizer reboot starring Queen Latifah, Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice starring Rebecca Breeds; and the Chuck Lorre-Marco Pennette multi-camera comedy B Positive headlined by Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford. The dramas have received straight-to-series orders, while B Positive was the only completed broadcast pilot this season, which was decimated by the coronavirus-related Hollywood production shutdown. As part of the pickups, Chris Noth has joined the cast of The Equalizer, and the remaining cast of Clarice, led by Kal Penn, has been revealed.
With the TV industry in flux, CBS has been the most proactive with decisions on pilots, recently passing on drama The Lincoln Lawyer, which had a series production commitment, from A+E Studios and CBS TV Studios, and comedy Fun, from Warner Bros. TV. I hear no other CBS pilots have been killed at this time.

Despite the coronavirus shutting down production on the majority of pilot season, CBS ordered three new series for next season, including its “Silence of the Lambs” sequel from Alex Kurtzman and Queen Latifah’s reboot of “The Equalizer.”
Additionally, the network ordered its latest series from uber-producer Chuck Lorre in “B Positive,” which stars “Silicon Valley” alum Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford about a therapist who becomes friends with his kidney donor.
The “Silence of the Lambs” sequel — titled “Clarice” — will follow Clarice Starling six months after the events of the movie. Rebecca Breeds takes over the role famously played by Jodie Foster in the 1991 movie. “The Equalizer” will see Queen Latifah step into the role played by Edward Woodward in CBS’ 1980s version, and more famously by Denzel Washington in a pair of movies.

CBS has made three series pick ups for the 2020-2021 season.
On the drama side, CBS has ordered the “Equalizer” reboot starring Queen Latifah and “Clarice,” which follows Clarice Starling in the aftermath of “The Silence of the Lambs.” On the comedy side, the network has picked up the multi-cam “B Positive,” which hails from Chuck Lorre.
The shows mark the first shows that were going through the normal pilot season process to get picked up for next season. Nearly all pilots were unable to complete filming before the Covid-19 pandemic forced a suspension of prodution. “B Positive” was one of the only pilots to complete filming before that happened. CBS had originally ordered 14 pilots this season, with both drama “The Lincoln Lawyer” and comedy “Fun” having been passed over in the past week.
CBS renewed the vast majority of its scripted lineup earlier this week, with 23 current shows now set to return next season.
