One of the late, great Ingmar Bergman’s skills as a filmmaker was to write and direct memorable roles for women. He was one of the few directors, such as Ford or Altman or Allen, who repeatedly relied on a “stock company” of actors throughout his career. While there were many wonderful male actors who worked for Bergman (Max von Sydow, Erland Josephson, Gunnar Björnstrand), we generally remember the women—Liv Ullmann, Harriet Andersson, Ingrid Thulin, Eva Dahlbeck, Bibi Andersson, among many—for baring their souls on screen in Bergman’s challenging, difficult works that always elevated the art of film to breathtaking levels.

USA Network has cast singer-songwriter Alison Sudol, aka A Fine Frenzy, in a series regular role on its upcoming six-episode event series, “Dig.” From co-creators and executive producers Tim Kring (“Heroes”) and Gideon Raff (“Homeland”), “Dig” stars “Awake” and “Harry Potter” star Jason Isaacs as Peter, an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating a murder of a young female archaeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2000 years in the making. Sudol will play Emma Wilson, an American intern working on a dig site in Jerusalem. After befriending FBI Detective Peter Connelly (Isaacs), Emma shows him her current worksite, but what Peter.

Singer-songwriter-actress Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy) has been tapped as a series regular on USA Network’s six episode event series Dig, an action adventure drama from co-creators and executive producers Tim Kring and Gideon Raff. It centers on Peter (Jason Isaacs), an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating a murder of a woman archaeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2000 years in the making that threatens to change the course of history. Sudol, repped by Resolution and Dave Fleming at Mosaic, will play Emma Wilson, an American intern working on a dig site in Jerusalem who befriends Peter (Isaacs). Sudel recurred on Transparent and will be seen in upcoming feature Other People’s Children. Eric Nenninger has joined NBC’s pilot Mission Control, a Universal TV-produced comedy from executive producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.
