Samvel Lajikian

Samvel Lajikian is an honored artist of Republic of Armenia. Born in
Gyumri, Armenia in 1953, Lajikian received his graduate degrees from
Engineering University, and from Academy of Fine Arts in Yerevan. From
1987 to 1995 Lajikian was the president of the Union of Artists and the
principal of the Merkurov Art School of Gyumri. In 1995 Lajikian moved
to the United States.
Lajikian, who is considered a renaissance style artist by his peers and art critics, has been creating masterpieces of visual arts for over three decades. He has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the United States, among which was a private exhibition at Agora Galleries in New York City. He illustrated hundreds of books of such famous authors like Pushkin, Tolstoy, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Daniel Defoe and many others.
Lajikian's artworks have been acquired by the Ministry of Arts and Culture of Armenia, The State Gallery of Armenia, Merkurov Museum, as well as many private collectors.
Lajikian's artworks have also mesmerized many celebrities, among whom was Michael Jackson, who privately acquired "Michael Jackson Last Supper" oil on canvas creation in 2003.
In August of 2014 HBO aired comedian Katt Williams' special "Priceless: Afterlife" directed by Spike Lee. For his special Katt Williams chose the work of Samvel Lajikian, to be displayed on his stage as a part of the decor. The 4' by 4' oil painting on canvas of Jesus Christ "The Last Supper" was displayed on the stage during the entire show.
Though religious paintings have been most successful among private collectors, Lajikian has an extensive line of portraits, landscapes, still lives and various compositions that are masterly performed in all techniques including watercolor, acrylic and oil.
