Shane Black’s The Predator disappoints and underwhelms at an alarming, so very heartbreaking rate. Hapless story mismanagement exposes major pacing issues that squander Black’s franchise-spanning roast humor (which is truly in good fun). Appropriate mechanisms lock into place – looney bin jarheads, Predator hybridization, slaughterhouse human reaping – but “halfway there” seems to represent the film’s rush-on-through motto. Halfway competent character care-taking, halfway invigorated sci-fi action and halfway….well, more like Extreme over-editing eradicates any feeling of coherency into rapid-fire highlights without dotted line connections.
With each new Predator entry, it’s hard not to wonder if John McTiernan’s 1980s machismo classic captures intergalactic lightning in a bottle the likes of which we’ll never experience again.
Garrett Hedlund Boyd Holbrook stars as Quinn McKenna, a specials ops marksman who stumbles upon an alien spacecraft wreck. This brings him face to face with an extraterrestrial warrior – that he...

Remember when The Predator proclaimed that the hunt had evolved?
It’s no doubt referring to the 10-foot Mega Predator that’s set to rip and tear its way through Shane Black’s R-rated sequel, but as Fandango’s exclusive new pic reveals, those regular old aliens will be sporting some new armor of their own.
Embedded below, you’ll see a fresh action shot from The Predator in which one of those ugly motherfuckers is seen holding its prey aloft, presumably as a means to bargain with its human enemies – either that, or this hapless soul is 10 seconds away from having his/her spine ripped out.
This is The Predator, after all, and Shane Black has vowed to deliver the franchise’s scariest movie yet, which will certainly make for a welcome double bill with The Nun, New Line’s latest entry into The Conjuring universe.
But here, we...

The Predator is no longer the galaxy’s apex hunter.
For in Shane Black’s star-studded reboot, the tables have turned – evolved, really – resulting in a 10-foot Mega Predator so damn ugly it would leave Alan “Dutch” Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) clutching at his cigar in disbelief.
Sadly, Arnie won’t be returning for The Predator, as Black and co-writer Fred Dekker look to expand the series mythos in a totally different direction. But his legacy, and the legacy of Dutch’s crew, remains intact, given next month’s R-rated thriller sends a group of muscly commandos after an extra-terrestrial threat.
Taking up arms against the Predators is Special Forces commando Quinn McKenna, a role that was initially earmarked for James Franco (and Benicio Del Toro!) before it fell to Boyd Holbrook of Logan fame. He’s pictured alongside Olivia Munn (X-Men) and Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes in the galley below,...
