The Long Halloween is still widely considered one of the greatest Batman stories ever told, and almost 30 years after the seminal comic book first hit shelves, Jeph Loeb will conclude the iconic crime saga with a new 10-issue series.
Announced today at the McM London convention, Batman The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween will pick up after the events of 2021's The Long Halloween Special one-shot, which was originally intended to be the start of a new story, but was put on hold following the passing of artist Tim Sale in 2022.
The new series won't feature new artwork from Sale beyond the cover for each issue. Instead, a rotating team of illustrators will provide work on the comic in tribute to the late artist, including Eduardo Risso (Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance), Klaus Janson (The Dark Knight Returns) and Mark Chiarello (Batman: Black and White).

Although Oscar-winner Gary Oldman has had numerous memorable roles in his life, most fans will know him as either Sirius Black from the Harry Potter film series or as James Gordon from Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Oldman made both these roles his own, but Sirius Black is especially noteworthy here, as Oldman remains the only actor who portrayed the character to date, so most Harry Potter fans actually have a tough time imagining anyone else in the role besides Oldman. Still, from some recent comments, it seems that Oldman himself wasn’t satisfied with the role, and that has sparked some controversy.
During a podcast talk in December 2023, Oldman said the following about his interpretation of the beloved character:
“I think my work is mediocre in. No, I do. Maybe if I had read the books like Alan [Rickman], if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming,...

Written by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, Gotham by Gaslight is considered to be the first DC Elseworlds story, which was lauded following its alternate take on the Batman mythos. Set in the Victorian era, the story follows Batman’s quest to apprehend Jack the Ripper, based on the infamous real-life serial killer, and the story was finally adapted into an animated feature in 2018.
However, the animated feature didn’t see Kevin Conroy return to voice the caped crusader, and per Bruce Timm, it was due to marketing reasons.

A trailer made by fans for a Batgirl movie with Jenna Ortega has got more than 1.03 million views in less than five days. It’s made by Kh Studio and uses different effects, sounds, AI, and movie stuff. But it’s just for fun and doesn’t mean Ortega is really doing anything with DC. Still, people might keep talking about Ortega joining DC because of how many people watched the trailer.
We’re not sure if there are any plans for Batgirl in Gunn’s Dcu, even though the trailer shows Dceu characters.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as leaders of DC Studios last year, big changes were expected. Shortly after, the studio officially announced the end of the DC Extended Universe (Dceu) and introduced a new cinematic universe called Dcu, serving as a soft reboot. A fan-made trailer for a Batgirl movie starring Jenna Ortega has gained over 1.03 million views in less than five days. Created by Kh Studio, the trailer uses various effects, sound design, AI technologies, and movie analytics. However, it’s purely for entertainment and doesn’t indicate any real projects involving Ortega and DC. Despite this, rumors about Ortega’s potential casting may continue due to the trailer’s popularity.
Even though the trailer features Dceu characters, it’s unknown whether something related to Batgirl is planned in Gunn’s Dcu.
When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as CEOs of DC Studios last year, we knew nothing would be the same. While James Gunn has begun filming for his first chapter of the new Dcu, Superman, he has also been working extra hard as the DC Studios chief to dispel rumors about his films or any other upcoming films in the franchise. The filmmaker is known to be active on Threads and frequently provides answers to fans about a rumor in case it is fake.
Gunn recently debunked a rumor about the casting of a former Marvel star to play Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman: Part II. Narcos star Boyd Holbrook was rumored to have joined the cast of the Robert Pattinson starrer as Two-Face. However, Gunn quickly squashed the rumor, saying that the news report was fake.

The Batman was a refreshing change in the turbulent DC Extended Universe. Taking a different approach from earlier DC and Batman movies, this 2022 flick starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayn is essentially a noir-style mystery that highlights the superhero’s detective abilities in addition to his physical prowess.
Not only did it create a bleak new Gotham City, but it also featured some of the best performances from Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jeffrey Wright (James Gordon), Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman), and of course, Pattinson (Batman).
However, the film was met with some skepticism following Christopher Wozniak, a screenwriter and former freelance artist for DC Comics, filing a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for allegedly stealing the story from his script, The Ultimate Riddle.

Well, the plaintiff has not been pleased with the verdict, as the US Judge ruled that Matt Reeves’ helmed flick was not plagiarized.

Batman and Joker are two of the most beloved DC comics characters of all time, and both have been played by numerous actors on the screen. However, when it comes to the best Batman-Joker pairing, fans will wholeheartedly agree that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill were the best hero-villain duo they have ever come across. With films like Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and The Batman Superman Movie: World’s Finest, both actors have proven why they are considered to be the best of the best.

Not only was their voice as Batman and Joker loved by the fans, but the two actors also had a great time working together. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill’s Batman: The Killing Joke sure was a controversial addition to the collection, but that didn’t stop them from making the most of it.

He may not have walked away with an Oscar this year, but Jeffrey Wright is hot off the acclaim of his Academy Award-nominated film American Fiction and has been reported by Deadline to be joining Denzel Washington for Spike Lee’s upcoming remake of the Akira Kurosawa film High and Low. The remake of the 1963 crime thriller will come from a joint production from Apple and A24 Films. It is not yet announced what role in the film that Wright will be portraying as of yet.
In addition to American Fiction, Wright also starred in the Oscar-nominated film Rustin for Netflix. He appeared in last year’s Asteroid City from Wes Anderson, who he also worked with on The French Dispatch. He would garner three Emmy nominations for his role as Bernard Lowe on HBO’s Westworld. Most viewers of The Batman would have been unaware that Colin Farrell was portraying Oswald Cobblepot if it had not been revealed ahead of time that he was playing Penguin. Thanks to hours spent every day in the makeup chair, Farrell’s portrayal of the Gotham City supervillain in the movie is totally unrecognizable. Even with his limited screen time, the character stole the show in a few moments, and a lot of fans believe Penguin’s role in this film was perfect.
It is worth noting that, in order to bring such a stunning character to life on screen, Farrell, 47, “fought valiantly”, but he wasn’t able to get ‘one special’ prop for his character. Yes, we are referring to his renowned cigar.

Christian Bale’s The Dark Knight trilogy is famously one of the best adaptations of the character to have ever graced a screen. Not only is the actor perfect in his role as the Batman, dedicating everything he had to the role, the supporting cast, action, and design are perfect. The cherry on top, however, is Christopher Nolan and his award-winning direction.
Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises
Calling the three films perfect would be the best way to describe them. Considering just how well-thought out the films were, it is surprising to find out that the third film was going to have a completely different story. One that can be used for another film as it introduced one of the most important characters in The Batman’s story, as well as a beloved character from the comics.

Cillian Murphy’s Oscars win was special on many grounds, primarily his first Christopher Nolan film as a lead in their sixth collaboration. Oppenheimer is a remarkable film, and Nolan’s vision added to the aesthetic grandness of the biopic, turning it into a cinematic masterpiece.

In this essence, Murphy’s win also enlisted him in the elite club of actors with an Oscar who appeared in Nolan’s DC venture The Dark Knight (the second film of the trilogy). In this regard, it would be fair to say that Nolan’s 2008 movie has assembled an astounding cast, if not the greatest ever.

It has been over fifteen years since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008), and fans believe there’s not yet a portrayal of Joker—the uber-iconic Batman villain—that quite matches up to the unprecedented legacy set by Heath Ledger. While this has been DC fans’ consensus for a while now, one deleted scene from the $1.006 billion movie caused the sentiment to reverberate once more.

The sequence in question follows The Clown Prince of Crime into a bus right after he pushes the detonate button on the Gotham General Hospital. Although in the movie, the scene shows Joker making an escape in a school bus only to cut to Gary Oldman’s James Gordon, the deleted scene allows viewers to sit with the antagonist and the aftermath of what he’d done.

1986 was an important year for DC Comics. "Crisis on Infinite Earths" rebooted the decades-old continuity, and Frank Miller reinvigorated Batman with "The Dark Knight Returns." Miller's tale depicted an aged Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement to fight the evils of the 1980s, from street gangs to the Cold War to Ronald Reagan. If you've ever wondered what the beginning of dark and gritty Batman was, it was this book.
The next year, DC was relaunching the main "Batman" title for the "Post-Crisis" era, and Miller was the obvious choice to kick it off. The result was "Year One," running four issues from "Batman" #404-407. The book follows Bruce Wayne's early days as a crime fighter when Gotham City was menaced by the mob, not super-villains. Batman refines his tactics through trial and error and slowly wins the trust of James Gordon — not yet a commissioner, but a rare...

Sirius Black is one of the fan-favorite characters of the Harry Potter franchise, despite actually having little screen time compared to some other prominent characters. The love for Black comes from ‘Harry Potter’ fans who read the books – and those who really cherish and appreciate the performance that Gary Oldman had given us as Sirius.
However, Gary Oldman himself isn’t a big fan of his performance as Sirius Black. He debuted in the role in 2004’s ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ and absolutely nailed it in the eyes of fans. In his own opinion, however, he could’ve done a lot better. Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast recently, Oldman called his performance in the franchise ‘mediocre’:

Fans of the acclaimed Batman trilogy by Christopher Nolan have a reason to celebrate, as the filmmaker has announced his return to the DC universe with a new project: ‘The Dark Knight Returns’. The film, based on the 1986 comic book miniseries by Frank Miller, will feature Christian Bale reprising his role as the Caped Crusader in a dystopian future.
‘The Dark Knight Returns’ is set 10 years after Batman’s retirement, as Gotham City is plagued by crime and corruption. An aging Bruce Wayne decides to don the cape and cowl again, facing old and new enemies, including the Joker, Two-Face, and a gang of violent mutants. He also has to deal with the opposition of the police and the government, who see him as a vigilante and a threat. The story culminates with a showdown with Superman, who has become a pawn of the state.

Poll any 25 movie fans on what their favorite Gary Oldman performance is and you’ll get nearly as many answers (I’ll take Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy). But one that surely connected with a core audience was Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series. And it was those movies – and by taking on James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies – that helped him find a balance between work and home life.
Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show (via Variety), Gary Oldman said the turmoil following his divorce from third wife Donya Fiorentino put him in a tough situation when it came time to manage his career and bond with his sons. Movies are one of the most common forms of entertainment nowadays. However, the audience is rarely aware of how difficult the process of making a movie is, and it can potentially even endanger the people present on the movie set. Although the action sequences and stunts are usually done by trained professionals, and the studios assure us of good security measures on movie sets, the accidents are still happening, unfortunately.
In the history of Hollywood, many movies remained infamously known for tragedies and unfortunate situations that happened on the movie set. We still remember when Brandon Lee was fatally wounded while filming ‘Crow’ back in 1993. Batman is very much a superhero who needs a support staff, and one key member of that support staff has always been James Gordon. A committed Gotham City cop (and eventual police commissioner), Gordon is one of Batman's most trusted allies and has been played by a wide range of actors over the years, with an equally wide range of interpretations. From Neil Hamilton in the Adam West "Batman" TV show in the '60s to Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy, Gordon has always been a key figure in Batman's universe.
Most recently, Jeffrey Wright ("Westworld") took on the role alongside Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne in 2022's "The Batman." Directed by Matt Reeves, it was a dark, gritty take on this corner of the DC Universe that felt relatively grounded in reality. So, it makes sense that Wright actually based his take on Gordon...

Batman's origin story is a tale as old as comic book time.
A dark and depressing alley. The gunshots. The falling pearls from a broken necklace. A need to take down criminals and a fascination with bats.
Bruce Wayne's journey to become Gotham City's protector has been everywhere, from film to gaming to TV. But it was the series on Fox that has a special place in our hearts: Gotham.
Gotham ran for five seasons from 2014 to 2019. The show, which you can watch online via TV Fanatic, followed many iconic characters in Batman lore years before Bruce put on the mask.
You got the seriousness of The Dark Knight mixed in with some fun comic book campiness. It was a best of both worlds that left passionate Batman fans divided over which tone they wanted.
The great thing about Gotham is that it fully embraced the antics of Gotham City.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as CEOs of DC Studios last year, we knew nothing would be the same. Indeed, it didn’t take long for the studio to officially announce the end of the DC Extended Universe and the start of another cinematic universe, Dcu, that will replace it as a soft reboot. That change in leadership led to the cancelation of the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel, ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ and Dwayne Johnson’s plans for his Black Adam. However, not only unproduced movies were the victims of this leadership change at DC Studios.
The former leadership of then-DC Films wanted to expand Dceu content on streaming as well, which led to the announcement of ‘Batgirl’ and ‘Blue Beetle.’ However, ‘Blue Beetle’ was later changed to have a theatrical release, and ‘Batgirl’ was ultimately canceled even though the project was already in post-production. The chaotic adventures of Joker’s psychopathic girlfriend and partner in crime, Harley Quinn are set to come out soon, as the DC animated black comedy superhero show’s Season 4 is marked for a July release.
The last season of ‘Harley Quinn’ began going deeper into her newly branded romantic relationship with Poison Ivy. When the season ended, Harley joined the Bat-Family while Ivy was poised to lead the Legion of Doom. In a funny twist, Batgirl is now the head of the Bat-Family as Bruce Wayne ended up being arrested for tax evasion.
Talking about the upcoming season and Harley’s new heroic role in the show with TVLine, showrunner Justin Halpern said, quoted by Collider: “Things are so binary in the superhero world. Like, there’s a bad guy, there’s a good guy, and the feeling you have to be one of those things. There’s also the idea of,...

According to Collider, insider John Rocha has shared while chatting on the ‘The Hot Mic’ podcast with Jeff Sneider, the two actors eyed for the role of Harvey Dent include, Josh Hartnett and Joel Edgerton.
Once an ally of Batman and Gcpd Commissioner James Gordon, after being horribly disfigured, the once honest District Attorney became mad and took on the criminal avatar Two-Face.

Out of all three of Christopher Nolan's "Batman" films, it's his third and final in "The Dark Knight Trilogy" that is the most ambitious. While the first two films in the series feel the most cohesive in terms of narrative and characters, "Rise" is eight years detached from the rest of the trilogy. Moreover, the film's scope is larger than even "Batman Begins," as it moves away from the crime aspects of "The Dark Knight" and focuses on more lofty themes of revolution and social upheaval. Marketed as "The Epic Conclusion to the Dark Knight Legend," the film sees Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement after eight years to face the arrival of a new villain, Bane.
The villain's goal to destroy Gotham is done under the guise of a city-wide revolution built off the lie conceived by Gordon and Batman at the end of the previous film. With Gotham's existence at stake,...

Thanks to Warner Bros. Discovery shelving the Batgirl movie, we may never get to see anything noteworthy from the production again. Thankfully, the folks at Corridor Digital have given us a small taste of what the Batgirl movie could have been with their very own “leaked” trailer.
Boasting some excellent visual effects and costumes, Corridor’s Batgirl trailer includes footage of Commissioner Gordon (J.K. Simmons), Firefly (Brendan Fraser), and Batman (Michael Keaton) pulled from other movies. It also ends with a bit of a meta-tag that left me laughing. Check it out for yourself above! You can also check out a video explaining just how Corridor went about making the trailer right here.
Related Brendan Fraser calls Batgirl cancellation “disappointing”
As Warner Bros. Discovery chose to pull the plug on Batgirl to take advantage of a tax write-down, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever get to see anything from the movie.

Harlivy shippers rejoice — everybody’s favorite supervillain couple is coming back to fight another day. “Harley Quinn” has been renewed for Season 4 at HBO Max.
In addition to the renewal, the streamer also announced that Sarah Peters, who has written for the show since Season 1 and serves as a consulting producer, has been promoted to executive producer and will take over duties as showrunner from creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker.
“We are ecstatic that HBO Max wants the story of Harley and Ivy to continue,” Halpern and Schumacker said in a statement. “And we are equally thrilled that this next season will be in great hands with Sarah Peters as our showrunner and Ceci Aranovich overseeing animation production, as they have both greatly influenced the show with their brilliance since the beginning.”

The demand to see “Batgirl” refuses to wane.
Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films announced in August that the film, which was in post-production, would not be released as a cost-cutting measure. On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Warner Bros. was hosting “funeral screenings” of the movie for its cast, crew and executives.
The report stated that the movie would be locked away permanently or perhaps even destroyed after the funeral screenings. Ivory Aquino, who portrays Aysia Yeoh in the unreleased “Batgirl” movie, caught wind of the reports and made a public plea to David Zaslaw, chief executive officer and president of Warner Bros. We were all a little shocked when Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that they would be shelving the Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace. Production had already wrapped, and the film was in the midst of the post-production process, which made it all the more unbelievable. Night Sky is one and done.
Prime Video has canceled the Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons drama after a single season.
Deadline first reported the news.
While the series drew solid reviews, it didn't make enough of an impact on the streaming service to secure a second season.
"Spanning space and time, Night Sky follows Irene (Sissy Spacek) and Franklin York (J.K. Simmons), a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber buried in their backyard, which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet," reads the logline.
"They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended...and the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined."
The cast is rounded out by Chai Hansen (The Newsreader), Kiah McKirnan (Mare of Easttown), Julieta Zylberberg...
