Camden Bonsu-Stewart, known professionally as camdenmusique, is a British pianist, singer, songwriter, composer, and producer of Ghanaian and Jamaican descent. He combines piano with operatic tenor vocals in his music to create a distinctive sound, fusing classical, jazz, new age, ambient and operatic pop. Bonsu-Stewart initially gained a following by posting covers of himself playing at public pianos on TikTok in 2022. In 2024, his original composition "Lost" went viral, garnering over 25 million views on TikTok.
Bonsu-Stewart was born in London. He began studying music at the age of six, receiving weekly private lessons in classical singing and piano under the mentorship of Ingrida Dremaine. He completed his Grade 8 ABRSM Piano exam in December 2021. Bonsu-Stewart joined the Libera Choir at the age of seven and gained popularity through television appearances, including "Star King" and "Songs of Praise" in 2017. He left Libera in July 2022 to embark on a solo career, releasing his debut album "Truly Yours" in September 2022.
From 2017 to 2022, Bonsu-Stewart attended the Junior Guildhall School of Music & Drama, studying voice (principal study) as a classical tenor under the tutelage of Rachel Sherry, later transferring to Professor Marilyn Rees in 2020. Piano was his second study instrument under the guidance of Zoe Mather. He entered the Senior Guildhall School of Music & Drama on a full scholarship but left in the middle of his second year to pursue his solo career full time.
Bonsu-Stewart began posting arrangements of popular piano songs on TikTok, gaining 1.5 million followers within 11 months. Since then, he has focused on composing original neoclassical pieces, mostly for solo piano, and releasing them independently from his home studio. His online videos have touched the hearts of over 600 million people worldwide and have led to many opportunities. He is an alumnus of the Guildhall Young Artists Programme and a Young Ambassador for the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. He has performed at several events in London, including the Burlington Arcade Lights Switch-On led by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2023 and the Loro Piana Record Bale Award in 2024.
Bonsu-Stewart is drawn to public pianos because he believes "music is a universal language and should be made available to all for healing and enjoyment." His original works transcend time and space while blending an eclectic range of genres, including neo-classical, crossover, ambient, minimalist, operatic pop, new age, and jazz. Bonsu-Stewart's live performances captivate and transport listeners to another dimension. He is passionate about sharing music as a unifying force through his compositions, especially for those who have endured hardship.
