These cats need a playdate! On Thursday, Mariska Hargitay shared a photo of her new pet cat on social media — and revealed that she named it Karma after a Taylor Swift lyric. It’s a full-circle moment for the kitties (and celebrities), since Swift named one of her own feline friends after Hargitay’s character in Law and Order: Svu: Olivia Benson.
“Karma is a Cat @taylorswift Meet Karma. My Cat.,” Hargitay wrote on Instagram, quoting the lyrics to the Midnights song with hashtags #MeAndKarmaVibeLikeThat and #KarmaIsACat.

The Law & Order shows have evolved along with society.
Back in the 1990s, Law & Order Season 3 Episode 21, featuring a gay cop whose brothers in blue let him die because of his sexual orientation, was an unusual, controversial story.
And Law & Order: Svu wasn't always respectful toward trans people or cross-dressers; in early episodes, the detectives referred to a potentially cross-dressing victim using derogatory language.
But in 2023, gay and trans people are more visible, and in recent years, the Law & Order shows have voiced support for the LGBTQ+ community through their stories.

Don’t even try to mess with Noah Benson (Ryan Buggle). As TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the January 26 episode of Law & Order: Svu shows, now that Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has arrested Oscar Papa (Goya Robles), she’s making it clear exactly what’s coming for him as he sits in a jail cell following his arraignment. “Are you threatening me?” he asks. “That’s not a threat. It’s a verdict. No one gets away with trying to kill my son, not without some form of justice, and right now, yours is starting to sound pretty good,” she tells him. Watch the clip for the rest of Benson going all Mama Bear on the leader of BX9. Benson originally went to the Bronx after she was attacked by two members of BX9 outside of her building just as she’d been walking home with her son.

What's it been like for you to have grown up working on a show like Svu?
It is just incredible because I get to meet so many different people in the Village. Like Ice-t, Mariska... I get to see everyone. It's so amazing.
That's awesome. And I know you're not on Svu full-time. Do you go to school when you're not on the show?
I'm homeschooled. I do three hours a day, sometimes four. I'm in eighth grade.
What's your favorite subject?
I love history. Right now, I'm learning about geography.
Cool. So...
