WB wipes out Coyote vs. Acme, so we probably will not see it, but we might be able to figure out the story, given that the entire plot appears to have been leaked online. Yes, Warner Bros. might have just committed the biggest fumble of the year with the leaked script of Coyote vs. Acme hitting Twitter feeds everywhere. In the now-canceled film Coyote vs. Acme, John Cena was supposed to play the lawyer for Acme Corporation.
John Cena will star in Coyote vs. Acme
Sure, most people still have fond memories of the Looney Tunes cartoons from the early and late 1900s. Warner Bros., thus, wanted to bring back that nostalgic feeling, so Coyote vs. Acme was approved and put into production. Early in November (2023), the studio announced the film’s cancellation before changing its mind and pitching it to other studios. These studios showed interest, but their offers fell short of Warner Bros.

“Coyote vs. Acme” star Will Forte has broken his silence on Warner Bros.’ shelving of the completed but unlikely-to-be-released Looney Tunes movie. Forte posted a statement to social media addressed to the film’s cast and crew on Thursday, praising their work on the “incredible” film.
“I know a lot of you haven’t gotten a chance to see our movie,” wrote Forte, who stars in the live-action/animated hybrid comedy as Wile E. Coyote’s attorney. “And sadly, it’s looking like you never will.”

“Super funny throughout, visually stunning, sweet, sincere, and emotionally resonant in a very earned way,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum wrote.

Those following the saga of Coyote vs. Acme waited with bated breath Friday for Warner Bros. Discovery’s earnings report to hint at any signs of the animated film’s fate.
The feature became the most talked about movie in town on Nov. 10, when The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Warners intended to scrap the movie. The outcry from filmmakers on social media was swift, and Warners soon reversed course, and decided to allow director Dave Green to shop the film to other buyers — something Green had been preparing to do when Warners surprised him by scrapping the film. Green ultimately showed the film to multiple buyers, with at least one bid coming in at around $40 million, according to one source.

Phil Lord has a question for David Zaslav:
Is it anticompetitive if one of the biggest movie studios in the world shuns the marketplace in order to use a tax loophole to write off an entire movie so they can more easily merge with one of the other biggest movie studios in the world? Cause it Seems anticompetitive.

Is it anticompetitive if one of the biggest movie studios in the world shuns the marketplace in order to use a tax loophole to write off an entire movie so they can more easily merge with one of the other biggest movie studios in the world? Cause it Seems anticompetitive.

Lord’s tweet, of course, is about “Coyote vs. Acme.” Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the completed film, a la “Batgirl” — although, unlike that DC Comics production, the Looney Tunes movie was supposedly shopped and according to some reports, received offers. Wbd denies the reports of official offers being made.

Now, it’s being reported that the upcoming film will be getting a second chance at release, unlike Scoob! Holiday Haunt and Batgirl.

Congressman Joaquin Castro has taken to X/Twitter to call out Warner Bros. Discovery for planning to shelve the completed film “Coyote vs. Acme” for the sake of receiving a $30 million tax break. Amid backlash against the studio, Wbd has since put the film on the market in an effort to shop it to other potential distributors.
“The @Wbd tactic of scrapping fully made films for tax breaks is predatory and anti-competitive,” Castro wrote on X. “As the Justice Department and @FTC revise their antitrust guidelines they should review this conduct.”
The Texas Democrat concluded his message by saying, “As someone remarked, it’s like burning down a building for the insurance money.”

With Road Runner-like speed, Warner Bros. Discovery has reversed its decision to bury Coyote vs. Acme.
The studio will now allow director Dave Green to shop his live-action/animation hybrid movie to other potential buyers instead of shelving the project for a tax write-off, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Amazon is said to be a contender, with screenings for potential buyers taking place this month. Puck was first to report the news of the reversal.
The move comes days after the The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Coyote vs. Acme would become Warners third already-shot film to get shelved after previously nixing nearly completed projects Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt in August 2022.
After Batgirl and Scoob! were dumped, a group of filmmakers with business at the studio started a text chain — a support group of sorts — to share their hopes and their anxieties, as well as encouragement and tips for navigating the studio.

“Coyote vs. Acme” is officially on the market.
Days after Warner Bros. announced it’s shelving the completed Looney Tunes-inspired film as a $30 million tax write-off, the studio is letting the filmmakers shop “Coyote vs. Acme” to other distributors. Puck, a newsletter covering the industry, and Deadline first reported that screenings are being set up for Amazon Prime Video, Apple and Netflix to acquire the movie, which finished filming in 2022 and was intended to play in theaters.
Amazon and Netflix were active buyers during the pandemic as traditional studios were siphoning off films for extra cash, but nothing has been ironed out for “Coyote vs. Acme.” Sources familiar with negotiations say the movie hasn’t been screened yet. In these instances, rights go to the highest bidder. It’s unclear if another company would want to buy a movie that Warner Bros. deemed unworthy to release on the big or small screen.

Last week, Warner Bros. made headlines and raised eyebrows when they revealed they would not be releasing their completed live-action/animation hybrid movie "Coyote vs. Acme." The news came with the following statement:
"With the re-launch of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in June, the studio has shifted its global strategy to focus on theatrical releases. With this new direction, we have made the difficult decision not to move forward with 'Coyote vs Acme.' We have tremendous respect for the filmmakers, casts, and crew, and are grateful for their contributions to the film."
Needless to say, this did not go over well. Folks involved with the film and everyday individuals just eager to see the flick took to social media to unleash outrage on Warner Bros. and its CEO David Zaslav. “Coyote vs. Acme,” a live-action movie that stars John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor, has been shelved by Warner Bros. a year after it was completed.
This follows Warner Bros. similarly shelving nearly completed features “Batgirl” and “Scoob’s Haunted Holiday.”

In another maneuver by the David Zaslav-run Warner Bros Discovery to kill movies, we hear on very good authority that Warner Bros will not be releasing the hybrid live-action/animated Coyote vs. Acme, with the conglom taking an estimated $30M write-down on the $70M production. We understand the write-down for the pic was applied to the recently reported Q3.
This reps the third time that Zaslav’s Warner Bros has pulled the plug on a movie greenlighted by the previous Warner Media administration, the other two being the Max-destined Batgirl and the animated Scoob Holiday Haunt!
The difference here is that Coyote vs. Acme is a completed movie with very good test scores, 14 points above the family norm. We’re told that the cash-strapped Warners finds that it’s not worth the cost to release the film theatrically or to sell to other buyers (and there are parties who...
