After treading water for weeks, Grimm is finally building up to the big end-of-season clash due in the approaching two-part finale...
This review contains spoilers.
5.20 Bad Night
As we crash inevitably onwards to next week’s two-hour season finale, Bad Night tries valiantly to inject some tension into the proceedings. And to some extent it works, with most of the episode focusing on Nick’s transformation from mild-mannered detective to a man consumed by a need for revenge against those who have taken his family.
It’s understandable, of course, that he’s feeling vexed after Black Claw forced Adalind to up and leave with their child, all so newbie politician Renard can benefit from a camera-friendly instant family. (There’s clearly more to it than that though, right?)
The writers are obviously attempting to portray a new darker side to Nick; a man driven by revenge...

Grimm season 5 takes on the world of evangelical preaching in its latest comic-tinged episode...
This review contains spoilers.
5.16 The Believer
First off, some good news for fans of Grimm: NBC has revealed that the show will be returning for a sixth season later this year, yay! It’s good to see the network supporting our favourite fairytale police procedural.
This week’s encounter with the Wesen world features an evangelical preacher who channels his inner Furis Rubian for his own ends. An accidental death leads Hank and Nick to the preacher’s door, and predictably we encounter large doses of religious fervour, delusion, betrayal and greed.
Being forced to deal with religious nut-jobs seems to bring out the snark in our favourite detectives, with Wu in particular delivering new levels of sarcasm when confronted with the case.
“What is this, some type of circus?” asks Hank...

The Grimm gang finally get inside the chest of the seven keys and what do they find? Er...
This review contains spoilers.
5.12 Into The Schwarzwald
This week Grimm hit its much talked-about 100th episode, and in the main, it didn’t disappoint.
Show creators Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt had previously teased a big reveal to the four-and-a half-season-long storyline involving those damn keys, but they were still in no hurry to reveal their secrets.
As a result we see Nick and Monroe overcome one obstacle after another in their search to locate the buried treasure. In the style of the best Indiana Jones outings, the two have to deal with underground catacombs, piles of ancient bones, and figure out a secret marker to the treasure before finally uncovering the mysterious chest of secrets. (Because it’s Grimm though, they also have to escape an angry German...
