A native of New Orleans, Erostine Coles was a talented actress, writer, and puppeteer who taught drama at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina before marrying and moving to New York City. Specializing as a speech therapist, in 1951, under her married name of Erostine C. Robinson, she developed a standard speech diagnostic test.
