Betty Buckley has been staying at the Chateau Marmont for about 50 years. She first checked in when she was filming her big screen debut as gym teacher Miss Collins in “Carrie” and then when she landed the role of Abby Bradford, Dick Van Patten’s new wife and stepmother to his kids in ABC’s 1970s family comedy-drama “Eight Is Enough.”
After half a century calling the Chateau her Los Angeles home — she lives full-time at a ranch outside of Fort Worth, Texas — Buckley has a lot of stories.
“Oh, there are some wild ones,” the 76-year-old actor and singer says while nibbling on a fruit and cheese plate in the hotel’s lobby restaurant on a recent weekday afternoon. She’s in town promoting her new horror movie, “Imaginary.”

Editor Sean Albertson has worked with director Jeff Wadlow on six projects to date, but their latest collaboration on “Imaginary” provided a new challenge: How to use editing to project human characteristics onto Chauncey, the stuffed bear that serves as the titular imaginary friend. In the Blumhouse/Lionsgate horror film, the audience quickly becomes aware that this new pal of young Alice (Pyper Braun) is very real and very dangerous — something that is largely conveyed through cleverly timed reaction shots that reveal what Chauncey is thinking and feeling even though his expressions barely change.
“I edited Chauncey the same way I would a human actor,” Albertson told IndieWire. “I believe that an audience knows how to feel based on the reactions of the other people in the scene, so precisely when we would cut to Chauncey mattered immensely. What is he reacting to? There’s a scene where Alice says to [her stepmom] Jessica,...

At first glance, it would seem as if Blumhouse’s new horror movie Imaginary is just another killer doll movie along the lines of Child’s Play or Annabelle. And after a watch, that’s pretty much what it is. But with a few twists.
Imaginary is about a children’s book author/illustrator named Jessica (DeWanda Wise from Jurassic World Dominion) who moves into her childhood home with her husband, Max (The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne), and his two girls, the teenaged Taylor (Monarch’s Taegen Burns) and the younger Alice (Desperation Road’s Pyper Braun). Lonely in her new place, Alice immediately makes an imaginary friend named Chauncey who takes the form of a cute little teddy bear. But there’s more to Chauncey than meets the eye – and he has history with Jessica.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow and Fantasy Island director Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary adheres to the time-honored tradition of transforming make-believe childhood pals into sinister manifestations that torment their abandoners. Here, a cuddly teddy bear named Chauncey harbors dangerous resentment for being forgotten, igniting a wave of terror for an unsuspecting family. If only that terror extended to the audience experience.
A cold open teases the monstrous imaginary friend via nightmare sequence before introducing the central family unit. Jessica (DeWanda Wise), along with her husband (Tom Payne) and stepchildren Taylor (Taegen Burns) and Alice (Pyper Braun), relocate from their hectic New Orleans apartment to Jessica’s childhood home in the suburbs. Typical growing pains and adjusting to a new town are compounded by dark family histories. Then Alice finds a cute teddy bear named Chauncey in the basement, which will force Jessica to confront painful memories when Alice starts behaving strangely.

2024’s giving us two films about imaginary friends. If, from writer/director John Krasinski, is light and fluffy, with Ryan Reynolds starring and Steve Carell voicing an imaginary friend. On the opposite end of the imaginary friend spectrum is Lionsgate’s Imaginary. The trailer shows a young girl’s cute stuffed teddy bear wants to be her forever friend, à la Chucky.
Imaginary stars DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World Dominion), Tom Payne (Prodigal Son), Taegen Burns (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers), and Pyper Braun (Erin & Aaron). Veronica Falcon (A Million Miles Away) and Betty Buckley (Preacher) also star.
“From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind Five Nights at Freddy’s and M3GAN, comes an original horror film that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends – and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath?” reads Lionsgate’s synopsis. “When Jessica (Wise) moves...

Did love blossom on the set of Chicago P.D.? Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer played partners on the NBC drama. But they may be a duo off-screen as well, according to a recent report.
Are Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer a couple?
On Chicago P.D. Spiridakos plays Detective Hailey Upton, a member of Cpd’s Intelligence Unit. Soffer played her partner (and later husband) Detective Jay Halstead. The two were a powerful duo in the Dick Wolf police procedural until Soffer left the show in season 10. Now, a source tells the New York Post that the actors have been quietly dating for years.
Neither Spiridakos nor Soffer has commented on the relationship rumors. But the two have posted about spending time together off-screen. In August 2023, Spiridakos and Soffer both shared a photo on Instagram of themselves and former Chicago P.D. showrunner Derek Haas walking the picket...

We’re finally saying farewell to 2023 and kicking off a whole new year of movies. Though the box office remains all over the place, with presumably guaranteed blockbusters failing to take off and “Barbie” becoming a cultural juggernaut, 2023 gave us a lot of theatrical surprises.
But what does 2024 have in store? Right off the bat, sequels. A lot of sequels! Intellectual property remains the lay of the land and there will be plenty of continuations. Tim Burton will take us back to 1988 with his “Beetlejuice” sequel while Ridley Scott will return us to ancient Rome with “Gladiator 2.” We’ll also be getting a slew of potential franchise films. Jon M. Chu takes us back to Oz with “Wicked: Part 1” and Denis Villeneuve returns to the spice-riddled world of Arrakis with the highly anticipated follow-up to “Dune.” And don’t forget the “Mean Girls” musical.

Before he was cast as the lead in “Rustin,” Colman Domingo already knew he was the right man for the job. “I have everything I need to get in there. I have the stamina, the physicality, the inquisitiveness, the vulnerability to access so much of this man’s spirit,” said the actor over coffee with IndieWire, recalling the short time in which he was waiting for director George C. Wolfe, who he had just worked with on the Oscar-winning “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” to call him in for it.
“I was outside of his window whispering my name,” he joked.

In theaters March 8 is the horror film Imaginary.
From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind Five Nights At Freddy’S and M3GAN, comes an original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends – and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath?
When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister.
As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.

After playing ahead of Five Nights at Freddy’s and teasing its arrival with an adorable motion poster, the trailer for Lionsgate and Blumhouse’s Imaginary is finally here. And it dares to tap into the concept of childhood innocence and imaginary friends, “Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath?”
Get ready to meet Chauncey. He’s not imaginary… and he’s not your friend, either.
The trailer has shades of Little Monsters, Drop Dead Fred, and Child’s Play.
DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World Dominion) will both star in and produce Imaginary, which is scheduled for theatrical release on March 8, 2024.

Fighting for streaming residuals has been a hard-fought sticking point for the writers and actors negotiations, but bottom-line results of the new bonus threshold may be limited.
Less than 5 percent of Netflix originals in 2022 “would have triggered performance bonuses under the new contract between the Writers Guild of America and major studios,” Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw wrote on Sunday. The new deal between the WGA and the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) pays out performance bonuses if at least 20 percent of a streaming platform’s U.S. users consume a new original film or TV series within its first 90 days.
Shaw’s rate of 5 percent or less accounts for all Netflix original titles, he wrote — including foreign-language, animated, and unscripted programs that aren’t governed by the WGA deal. So while, say, docuseries “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” crosses the threshold with a 30 percent share of U.

Can two actors “kiss” without actually locking lips?
It seems as though that may have been the case for Jonah Hill and Lauren London, who star in Netflix’s new comedy “You People”.

Kenya Barris’ sitcom Black-ish was renowned for its ability to tackle questions about race in a format usually reserved for 30-minute family shenanigans. Its best episodes were unafraid to drop the laughs while unflinchingly discussing important issues. So, it’s disappointing that You People, Barris’ feature directorial debut, too often feels like a preachy, overlong sitcom.

Netflix’s latest, Day Shift, marks longtime stunt coordinator J.J. Perry’s feature directorial debut and is produced by John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski. As if that action caliber wasn’t enough, Day Shift employs contortionists and performers from Cirque du Soleil to portray its bendy, acrobatic vampires. That results in a horror comedy that’s heavy on style and action spectacle… but slight on substance and laughs.
Jamie Foxx stars as San Fernando Valley pool cleaner Bud Jablonski. The pool cleaning gig merely fronts for Bud’s career choice: a freelance vampire slayer selling vamp fangs for profit. When estranged wife Jocelyn (Meagan Good) announces plans to move their daughter Paige (Zion Broadnax) to Florida, Bud turns to pal Big John Elliott (Snoop Dogg) to get him back in the Union’s good graces to earn enough quick cash to keep his family close. Netflix has dropped the new trailer for Day Shift, streaming August 12.
Jamie Foxx stars as a hard working blue collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.
Plus catch a behind-the-scenes look at the movie.
Want to see more of Foxx on the streaming channel? It was announced last week that Jamie Foxx And Cameron Diaz will headline Netflix’s upcoming film Back In Action. No details on the comedy movie as of yet, but Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is directing and production begins later this year.
Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the Goat to bring back another Goat.

Ordinary Joe might be a new and upcoming show for viewers, but it’s a concept that’s been in the works for quite some time, according to creators Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner. “Matt Reeves (The Batman) wrote the original script about 10 or 15 years ago, and he basically took it out of a drawer and graciously allowed us to be a part of it,” Friend reveals. The series follows Joe Kimbreau played by the charismatic James Wolk, a man who finds himself at a crossroads on graduation day about 10 years in the past. (Credit: Parrish Lewis/NBC) Ordinary Joe tracks three different paths Joe could take, one in which he becomes a rock star, another in which he becomes a nurse and marries his best friend, the third finds him following in his father’s footsteps of becoming a cop. “When we sat down to rewrite it, [Matt Reeves] encouraged us...

Check out the new motion poster from Focus Features’ Captive State. From the director of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Rupert Wyatt, the upcoming sci-fi thriller starring John Goodman, Ashton Sanders, Jonathan Majors, Colson Baker and Vera Farmiga opens in theaters March 15th.
Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, “Captive State” explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents. We can’t wait for this one and Focus Features has done a good job of not giving too much away.
After 10 years of occupation, some chose cooperation, others chose resistance.

Spike Lee’s Chi-raq re-imagines Aristophanes’ ancient Greek comedy “Lystrata” as modern plea for peace in violence-torn Chicago. Chi-Raq is a term the director reportedly heard on the streets, used to compare violence-racked Chicago neighborhoods to war-torn Iraq. In the classic Greek play, the women on both sides of warring Sparta and Troy join together to end the war by staging a sex boycott. No sex for the men until there is no war. In Chi-raq, the Spartans and the Trojans are opposing gangs in a disadvantaged neighborhood, where their violent warfare is killing children in the streets.
It is a clever idea, moving this ancient comedy to Chicago’s bloody streets, using humor, music, sex and truth-telling to put a spotlight on the situation in these disadvantaged city neighborhoods. Sometimes a person just has to speak out, even if nothing will change,...
