Marvel’s ‘Multiverse Saga’ is all set to end with the climactic cinematic event Avengers: Secret Wars. Even though the film is a long way ahead, the MCU has probably begun to set up the ultimate battle between the Avengers and the multiversal threat. Many antagonists such as Kang the Conqueror and Doctor Doom have been rumored to be the villains.
While the film will definitely see many of the superheroes established from the beginning of the MCU make an appearance, one group that will not be seen is the Inhumans. Debunking a rumor that the Inhumans (as seen in the series) would be appearing in the film, Black Bolt actor Anson Mount ridiculed the page that broke the news and denied his involvement.

With Wong Kar-wai being one of the names that are always mentioned when people all around the world refer to Asian cinema, we thought it would be interesting to do another ranking, and having his movies, a number of which are definitely masterpieces. As such, we asked Amp writers who have seen at least 8 of his features to rank them from worst to best. Notably, the two first titles got the same amount of votes and the third had just one vote less. In case you are wondering, the number one was the one who got most first places in the vote. Here is what the votes of Adriana Rosati, Rhythm Zaveri, Rouven Linnarz, Panos Kotzathanasis, Andrew Thayne and Jean Claude resulted in.

About a month ago, the trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released, sending fans into a frenzy of excitement. The trailer not only showcased but also confirmed several cameos and variants set to appear in the movie. It included references to some iconic moments from the comics, and notably, featured Deadpool & Wolverine using Strange’s Sling Ring, presumably to make an escape.
The Sling Ring is a mystical accessory worn on two fingers, granting its user the ability to create dimensional gateways to other locations or even different dimensions. Originating specifically for the MCU, it is primarily utilized by Doctor Strange and other practitioners of mystical arts. The question arises: how did Deadpool acquire such a powerful artifact?
Despite the resurgence of numerous fan theories, Cumberbatch, known for his portrayal of Doctor Strange, was prompted to share his thoughts on the origin of the portal. His response was laced with...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer dropped about a month ago, and fans were over the moon. The trailer showed (and confirmed) some of the cameos and variants set to appear in the movie. It referenced some neat stuff from the comics, and at one point we even saw Deadpool & Wolverine using Strange’s Sling Ring to presumably escape.
A Sling Ring is a small mystical ring worn on two fingers that has the ability to create a dimensional gateway to another location or even a different dimension. It was created specifically for the MCU and it is used by Doctor Strange and other masters of mystical arts, so how did Deadpool come across it?
Despite the resurgence of plenty of fan theories, Cumberbatch who portrays Doctor Strange was asked to weigh in on the origin of the portal, and he had a humorous response:

Remember when the Apple Vision Pro came out, and everyone wondered where the games were for the super expensive VR headset? Fret not, those with disposable income, because Marvel Studios’ What If…? Disney+ series is releasing an “immersive” experience just for that device!
What If…? has been a mixed bag, with some fun elements like Marvel’s Zombies and a total snorefest that was all of Season 2. So, what could it possibly offer to people who paid $3599 or more for the fancy VR goggles?
The recently released trailer gives us a small glimpse at the gameplay, but just how much you’ll be doing instead of watching isn’t clear:
“The Multiverse is in danger and The Watcher needs your help. Dangerous variants are hunting Infinity Stones and altering the fate of not only their realities, but yours as well. To save the fate of the Multiverse, you’ll need...

Marvel's "What If...?" animated series on Disney+ has allowed fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to see into parallel dimensions featuring alternate versions of their favorite superheroes and villains, from Black Panther to Thanos. Some of those characters, like Captain Carter, even made it into "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness" before being hilariously torn apart by Scarlet Witch.
Now, Marvel Studios is teaming up with Industrial Light & Magic's Ilm Immersive group to deliver a virtual reality experience that will take MCU fans into the animated world of "What If...?" in order to stop variants of the multiverse from harnessing the power of the Infinity Stones. This is the first-ever interactive Disney+ original story, and it will be available exclusively on the Apple Vision Pro as a free app for a limited time. When Lee Sung Jin’s limited series Beef wrapped production back in 2022, the cast and crew were so happy with the profound camaraderie they’d developed that they’ve attempted to meet for dinner at least once a week ever since — some irony for a story originally borne out of anger and resentment.
Some time ago, pre-Beef, Lee found himself angrily tailing a driver in a road rage incident for nearly an hour. When he happened to tell Ravi Nandan, A24’s head of television, about this moment of madness, Nandan suggested Lee might expand on it. Was there more story to tell?
The complex and personal stories behind two strangers clashing with such vitriol eventually evolved into Lee’s limited series. At turns hilarious and disturbing, it follows the lives of Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) as they enter into an intense feud that is, in truth,...

It’s been a ride for “Beef” creator, writer and director Lee Sung Jin and the cast — the series dominated the Emmy Awards with five wins, and nabbed two SAG Awards for stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.
While a second season has yet to be announced, Lee is making good use of his Notes app, inspired by his surroundings.
Lee spoke with Variety about his year and receiving Gold House’s Icon Award.
It’s been a year since “Beef” dropped on Netflix and became this phenomenon, what have the past 12 months been like for you?
The last 12 months have been quite a roller coaster. A lot of high highs — getting to go through the release and awards season with Steve and Ali and all our collaborators, it’s felt really special. They’re some of my best friends now, and to be able to experience that together was really wonderful.

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame marked its five-year anniversary on April 30, and composer Alan Silvestri has now explained why he feels one sequence in particular has had such a lasting impact.
We are, of course, referring to the "Portals" scene.
During the climactic battle, Thanos manages to defeat Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America - but Steve Rogers isn't about to stay down. As the Sentinel of Liberty dusts himself off and prepares to fight until his last breath, he hears a familiar "on your left," and turns around to see Black Panther and the others recently-revived heroes assembling through Doctor Strange and Wong's mystical portals.
While speaking to Games Radar, Silvestri said he believes this moment has become so beloved and iconic because of what Rogers had experienced in the build-up.
"The spectacle [of Portals] is ultimately overwhelming, but I think it's emotional because we've never seen every ounce of optimism destroyed in Captain America,...

(Editor’s note: The following article contains mild overarching plot spoilers for “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.”)
After endless reboots, sequels, and revivals, fans of big movies and TV shows aren’t clamoring for more the way they once were. But with “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” Netflix and creators Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski show that a franchise reset doesn’t mean the death of creativity or more of the same; it can be a fresh opportunity for a beloved property like “Scott Pilgrim” to completely revamp itself and find a brand new audience — while still satisfying old fans.
With one general spoiler for the entire series ahead, “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is not the story of O’Malley’s six graphic novels, which wrapped up in the same year as Edgar Wright’s big-screen adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” — and it’s not that movie either. The animated series is a secret third thing,...

When it was released in 2010, Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was considered a disappointment. It grossed less than $50 million at the box office, on a reported production budget of $85 million. And the reviews, while mostly positive, were less than enthusiastically so.
In hindsight, though, Wright’s adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s beloved 2000s series of graphic novels was simply ahead of its time. Its mash-up of genre and tone, and its ability to make absurd comic book imagery work in live-action, has earned it an ever-increasing cult following.

Exclusive: Greenwich Entertainment announced today the acquisition of North American distribution rights to Katie Burrell’s feature debut Weak Layers.
The film is directed and co-written by Burrell (who also stars), and Andrew Ladd, also stars Chelsea Conwright and Jadyn Wong. Weak Layers will arrive in theaters in top 50 markets and in select mountain towns on January 5, and on VOD on February 6, 2024.
The three women star as evicted roommates who enter a ski-movie contest to resolve their living situation. Set in Lake Tahoe, these three passionate and lovably rowdy local women go on a quest to win a world-famous 72-hour short ski film competition. A progressive throwback to the cult classics, the film dissects modern, male-driven ski culture while championing the tight-knit local communities found in ski towns throughout the world.
“I love anything that upends a trope and this movie is full of the kind of teasing satire that satisfies the rebel in me.

Over hundreds of ‘Friends’ fans braved the rains in Manhattan to honour actor Mathew Perry, who played Chandler Bing in the sitcom, by gathering outside the iconic show’s apartments. According to Variety, people of all ages and backgrounds gathered on Sunday by the ‘Friends’ building in New York’s West Village to pay their respects to Perry and pose for pictures outside of the show’s iconic apartment.
Despite the dreary weather, dozens of flower bouquets and handmade signs with phrases like “the one where we all lost a friend” were piled on the southwest corner of Bedford and Grove near the cozy neighborhood restaurant The Little Owl.
“It feels strange to feel sad about it, but it really has been a sad morning,” said a 29-year-old fan, who brought flowers. “It’s been my comfort show since I can remember. I can’t imagine watching it now without feeling deep sadness.

The history of Hong Kong martial arts cinema contains many stories based on real life figures. These stories elevate them to almost mythical status as they become something more. Standing head above all the others is the recurring figure of Wong Fei Hung. For modern audiences, the most fondly remembered portrayals are by Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Yet Kwan Tak-hing is probably the one most defined by the role, playing him countless times from the 1950's onwards. “The Skyhawk” is one of the final instances and his last in a leading role. It is also one of the key films in the movement towards the modern martial arts film as transcends the generations with the torch being passed on whist respecting the whole ethos of the character that Wong Fei-hung represents.

“Beef” has taken the Emmys by storm, serving up 13 nominations as part of Netflix’s overall total of 103. The revenge dark comedy thriller is the streaming service’s most successful series across the board in the top categories, which include Best Limited Series, five acting bids and seven technical noms, with half of their 10 episodes singled out for various recognition. Read on for a closer look at “Beef’s” 13 nominations.
In the Best Limited Series race, “Beef” is tied for total bids with another one of Netflix’s popular programs, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” The other three streamer shows in the lineup in descending tally are Amazon Prime Video’s “Daisy Jones & The Six” at nine, Hulu’s “Fleishman is in Trouble” at seven and Disney+’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi” at five.

One of the most exciting races at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards is Best Movie/Limited Actress. With a lineup featuring Jessica Chastain in “George and Tammy,” Riley Keough in “Daisy Jones and the Six,” Kathryn Hahn in “Tiny Beautiful Things,” Ali Wong in “Beef,” Dominique Fishback in “Swarm,” and Lizzy Caplan in “Fleishman is in Trouble,” this is one of the most diverse lineups this category has seen to date.
However, despite all the outstanding performances this category has to offer, I think this will be a showdown between Wong and Fishback. While “Beef” was embraced by the television academy to a much greater extent, Fishback’s performance has been hailed by critics, audiences, and now her industry peers just like Wong’s.

When director Jeff Rowe (co-director of “The Mitchells vs. the Machines”) and producer Seth Rogen (“Sausage Party”) first talked about making their animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” edgier and scarier than the rest of the beloved franchise, they both seized on “Jurassic Park” as a touchstone.
“One of my favorite movies as a kid was ‘Jurassic Park,’ and I saw that when I was seven in a theater because I love dinosaurs,” Rowe told IndieWire. “And the opening of that film is terrifying — it scared the shit out of me. I was crying and immediately wanted to leave the theater, but I stayed through it all. It successfully established the Raptors as one of the coolest villains ever, and it established a world where bad things could happen.
“Seth had a similar experience and he said a great thing: ‘Jurassic Park’ is like a monster movie for kids.

“Seth had a similar experience and he said a great thing: ‘Jurassic Park’ is like a monster movie for kids.

Marvel and “Barbie” star Simu Liu hopes the return of the AMPTP to negotiations with the Writers Guild of America ends the strike for the right reasons.
Liu, who has also recently starred in “One True Loves” and appeared on “The Other Two,” picketed Amazon Studios in Culver City on Wednesday.
“I think a willingness to come to the table is always a good thing. I hope they follow through. There’s been a lot of things that have been said, from the AMPTP side that have not been encouraging or things that have been floating around,” he told TheWrap in an interview you can watch below. “The fact that they’re willing to come to the table, I think is a good sign. I think I think everyone who is out here on the picket line is unanimous and that we all share a hope that the strike will end,...

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we look at the limited races, many of which “Beef” is predicted to win.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday, and the news we’ve expected since the Screen Actors Guild went on strike became relatively official late Thursday evening: The 2023 Emmy Awards ceremony has moved off its Sept. 18 date for parts unknown – but likely January. We’ve already typed and talked about this, but to get it down in typographical font once again: It’s silly to hold an awards ceremony for the 2022-23 television season during the heart of the 2023-24 eligibility window and pretend it can go forth with the same level of interest, pomp and circumstance. My vote that no one involved with this decision...

The prolific filmmaker Wong Jing directed and starred in “I Corrupt All Cops” (2009), a film about the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) by the Governor of Hong Kong to fight against corruption in the early 70s. Interestingly, the film's English initials clearly spelled out as Icac whereas its Chinese title means “Money Empire”. Twelfth years later, Wong, the master of remakes, was back with yet another spin on Icac this time with the help of four Hong Kong's finest actors. A sequel by name only with an interesting Chinese title, “Money Empire: Chasing Tiger, Capturing Dragon”.
In this new but fabricated crime drama yarn, we are back in British Hong Kong of the early 70s in which corruption and bribery rule big time under the watch of the greedy Chief Detective Chui Lok (Francis Ng) of the police force, who is in bed with local crime lord Wu Shi Hao,...

Netflix’s Beef displaced The Night Agent as the top overall streaming title for the week of April 10-16.
Beef, starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, drew 1.59 billion minutes of viewing time for the week, up 65 percent from its premiere week. The series also sparked controversy when past remarks about sexual assault by co-star David Choe resurfaced. Choe later said he made up the story, and Wong and Yeun said in an April 21 statement that they “do not condone this story in any way” while adding they have seen Choe seek support “to better himself and learn from his mistakes.”
The Night Agent (1.17 billion minutes) slipped to second but recorded its fourth straight week over the billion-minute mark. Love Is Blind (1.09 billion) and Disney+’s The Mandalorian (1.03 billion) also topped a billion minutes.
Netflix’s Florida Man was the highest charting premiere for the week with 649 million minutes of watch time.

As we inch toward the Emmy nomination announcement on July 12, one category that has been interesting to try to predict is Movie/Limited Actress. As there is no division within this category pertaining specifically to genre, we end up with quite the diversity of performances. There are 35 actresses listed on Gold Derby’s combined odds and rankings. Of those, at least a dozen of them have a legit shot at scoring a nomination.
The reigning champion of this category is Amanda Seyfried for her performance in 2022’s “The Dropout” (Hulu). Seyfried also won the Golden Globe earlier this year. So, who is in contention to pick up the baton for 2023?
Some of this year’s top contenders and their current combined odds include:
SEEJessica Chastain predicted to follow her ‘George and Tammy’ SAG Award with her first Emmy Jessica Chastain (“George and Tammy”): 37/10 – Chastain has been having herself a Year.

Bowen Yang is not only the breakout star of Saturday Night Live, where he’s hilariously embodied everything from a downed Chinese spy balloon to a Ron DeSantis-roasting gay Jafar, but he’s also one of the stars of Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, a Comedy Central series from Awkwafina (real name: Nora Lum) based on her life growing up as an Asian American in Queens, New York. A world away from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night, industry leaders from across the Asian movie business were keeping regular tabs on the 95th Academy Awards ceremony via their phones at Hong Kong Filmart, the Eastern Hemisphere’s largest film trade show, eagerly awaiting news of whether regional screen legend Michelle Yeoh would make history as the first woman of Asian descent to win a best actress Oscar.
News of Yeoh’s triumph landed in Southern China at roughly 11 a.m. local time, sending the Malaysian and Hong Kong industry executives at Filmart into a private fits of celebration. Yeoh, who is Malaysian of Chinese descent, got her start during the golden era of the Hong Kong film industry in the 1980s and 1990s, and both Hong Kong and Malaysia have laid claim to her — sometimes contentiously — as a hometown hero. But on Monday, both industries...

“Do you have a breast pump?”
This is how Ali Wong greets my visibly third-trimester self when we meet up at Etta in Culver City for lunch in February. By the time we make it to our table, she is already whipping out her phone to text her assistant to deliver a pump to my apartment, and she spends the first 15 minutes of her interview focused on my pregnancy: how many weeks I’m along, how I felt during my glucose test (she’s the only person who’s ever asked me about that often-nauseating experience) and her three must-brings to the hospital for delivery (a breastfeeding pillow, a nice blanket from home and a pack of Depends).
“I really miss being pregnant,” sighs Wong, 40, who famously was with child for each of her first two stand-up specials, 2016’s Baby Cobra and 2018’s Hard Knock Wife. “Sometimes it feels a...
