- On Long Island, Harry DeLeyer worked beginning in 1954 as a riding instructor at The Knox School, an elite private girl's boarding school, on Long Island, New York. The school's pupils included Zsa Zsa Gabor's daughter and Teddy Roosevelt's granddaughter. His job was to teach them to ride and to fox hunt. He was employed there for 22 years.
- Although Harry had another top jumping horse decades later in his homebred Dutch Crown, who tied for first place in the initial leg of the 1982 World Cup Finals, "Snowman is the one who put him on the map," said Ron Davis.
- Snowman, the horse, began winning prestigious classes only two years after Harry DeLeyer bought off the slaughter truck, and his career lasted five years. He was photographed performing unusual feats such as jumping over other horses, and his calm disposition made him a favorite. He once won a leadline class and an open jumper championship on the same day.
