Verve has upped coordinators Olivia Ghersen and Isaiah Williams to Agents in the Television Literary and Motion Picture Literary teams, respectively.
The agency continued its long-running tradition of surprising staff with promotions by enlisting Ghersen and Williams to run the all-company meeting on Monday morning and, when the time came for their usual reporting section, the team heads – Felicia Prinz, Chris Noriega (TV Lit), Liz Parker, Parker Davis (MP Lit), and Melissa Darman who created and oversees the Agent Trainee program, ran through their accomplishments and professional highlights.
Ghersen previously worked at 20th Television and Mainstay Entertainment before joining Verve from Discovery Communications. She has worked on both the scripted and unscripted sides of television, but has always had an affinity towards comedy, starting when she cold-emailed producers at Saturday Night Live to ask for informational interviews. At Verve she focuses on comedy writers and multi-hyphenates, and in her spare...

On the eve of its anniversary, Verve has tapped founding Partner Bill Weinstein as the first CEO in the agency’s thirteen years. The decision was made by the Partnership and announced by his fellow Founding Partners Adam Levine and Bryan Besser in an all-company meeting with a grateful and excited Weinstein thanking each member of the Verve community for their support and belief.
In the heartfelt speech from Besser and Levine, they highlighted the need to provide additional structure as the independent agency adds resources to its core film and television business while continuing to expand into new areas of client representation.
“As we continue to evolve, we recognize the need to formalize the managerial organization of our business to bring greater accountability, efficiency, and excellence to our core mission of advocating on behalf of creative talent,” Said Besser on behalf of the Partnership.

Rounding up the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives, The Black List has been a strong resource to clue one in on projects to potentially anticipate, but first, to kickstart Hollywood on bringing them to screen. Today we have this year’s edition, as voted on by over 300 film executives.
Topping the 2022 edition is Catherine Schetina’s Pure, with a logline as follows: “Obsessed with food purity, Hannah’s trip to her sister’s destination wedding descends into madness when she contracts a mysterious foodborne illness that threatens to destroy her from within.”
Other scripts feature a look at the employees of Four Seasons Total Landscaping on November 7, 2020, the makings of It’s a Wonderful Life and the Madden videogame, a dark comedy about the Hindenburg Disaster, biopics on Dolly Parton, Michael Phelps, and Jerry Springer, and quite a heaping of sci-fi stories.

Exclusive: Verve has upped coordinators Jessica Zou and Noah Liebmiller to Agents in the Motion Picture Literary Team.
The agency, which has a tradition of surprising staffers with promotions, last week tasked Liebmiller and Zou with putting together a video as part of a signing exercise. I understand they were told that the video was not only important but needed to convey the theatrical gravitas of the signing pursuit. During a recent all-company staff meeting, the video was played to great reception and the promotions were announced by the co-heads of the Motion Picture Lit Team who reflected on how deserving both Liebmiller and Zou were of their new titles.
Zou, who holds a Master’s in Communications from USC, began her career in the UTA mailroom before joining Verve in February 2020 where she worked for Motion Picture Lit Agents Pamela Goldstein and Sara Nestor. Liebmiller, a Middlebury College graduate and another homegrown agent,...

The Black List, an annual ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, has unleashed its 2021 edition — a smattering of delicious pop biopics, true crime and even a psychodrama about Mickey Rourke appearing on “The Masked Singer.”
Founded in 2005 by Franklin Leonard, the list surveys top studio and development executives asking them to share the scripts they adored but haven’t yet greenlit. The rankings are then cross-referenced, and popularity is calculated by the frequency a title appears (the “mentions”).
The top script on this year’s list is “Cauliflower,” an intense drama from writer Daniel Jackson.
“Under the cruel guidance of a mysterious coach, an ambitious high school wrestler struggles to become a state champion while battling a bizarre infection in his ear that both makes him dominant in his sport and threatens his sanity,” the synopsis reads. The script was mentioned 32 times across rankings. Jackson is repped by UTA and Bellevue.
