It's fair to say that Lee Chang-dong is one of the leading lights in South Korean cinema, if not cinema in general, though his relatively sparse output over the last decade leaves us yearning for more. His debut made a quarter of a century ago, while not as accomplished as his subsequent five films, features many of the themes that would appear throughout his oeuvre, and serves as a strong foundation for the rest of his work to build on.
Film Movement Presents The Films Of Lee Chang-dong, A Retrospective Showcase Including The US Theatrical Premieres Of New 4K Restorations Of Green Fish, Peppermint Candy, Oasis & Poetry In Seleected Cinemas In Canada And The US
Makdong (Han Suk-kyu) is fresh out of his army service and is returning home on the train. It is here he meets the mysterious Mi-ae (Shim Hye-jin), trying – and failing – to come to her rescue from a group of thugs.

Spoiler Alert: This review reveals details of both Rebel Moon movies.
Slow-motion scenes that sputter story pacing? Check.
Poorly developed characters? Check.
Plot holes bigger than the Milky Way? Check.
… And we’re back with part two of Zack Snyder’s Netflix space opera Rebel Moon -Part Two: The Scargiver. You might not be a shock to hear this, but part two manages to be worse than part one. Its biggest offense? Nothing happening for way too long. The film stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, Elise Duffy and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy the robot. While this is a capable cast of actors, they have nothing to work with. I wonder if the reason Snyder hasn’t delivered a comprehensible script in some time is because he wears too many hats as writer, producer, director and cinematographer on most of his films?...

Zack Snyder dropped the first official trailer for Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire during Netflix’s Geeked Week 2023. The three-minute trailer focuses on Sofia Boutella as Kora, a former soldier who is called upon to gather fighters to take on the Motherworld.
Director Zack Snyder co-wrote the screenplay with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. Snyder also serves as a producer along with his wife, Deborah, and Eric Newman and Wesley Coller. Johnstad, Hatten, Bergen Swanson, and Sarah Bowen executive produce.
During a Geeked Week Q&a, Snyder discussed creating the world of Rebel Moon.
“When you’re starting to create canon, you’ve got to be careful not to paint yourself into a corner that you are like, ‘Oh geez, I wish the character could do that, but I guess I can’t now because I’ve set them up in this way.’ So, a lot of...

A not-so-long time ago, in a Burbank studio, Zack Snyder pitched a "Star Wars" movie.
The year was 2012. Disney had just bought Lucasfilm, which gave the company the keys to George Lucas' blockbuster franchise. It was the earliest of days. Lucasfilm leader Kathleen Kennedy was taking meetings with every successful director in Hollywood, which led to a sit-down with Snyder. Snyder was at a critical juncture in his career: after delivering three relatively well-reviewed entertainments in "Dawn of the Dead," "300" and "Watchmen," the filmmaker had stumbled with "Sucker Punch," a wholly original action-fantasy about a group of young women who weaponize their imagination to break free of a mental institution.
Snyder was about to get off the ropes with "Man of Steel," but he sensed a world-building opportunity at Disney. His pitch was to take the "Star Wars" series back to its Akira Kurosawa roots with, as he recently told Vanity Fair,...

Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon,” an original sci-fi epic starring Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Anthony Hopkins and Ray Fisher, arrives this Christmas on Netflix. And thanks to a new trailer (which you can watch above), you can now understand the scope and complexity of the project. It is huge.
Snyder first conceived of a giant space movie 20 years ago and more recently pitched Lucasfilm on the idea of the movie as a potential standalone “Star Wars” entry. (At the time it was described as “Seven Samurai” in the “Star Wars” universe.) When the Lucasfilm version of the idea petered out, Snyder made it even bigger and more insane – so much bigger that it required two movies, which Netflix has now dated for December 22 of this year and April 19, 2024.
Boutella stars as Kora, a young woman and former soldier for the Empire-like Imperium, whose peace is threatened...

Seoul, July 19 (Ians) LG AI Research, the artificial intelligence lab under LG Group, unveiled the second generation of its giant, multimodal AI model on Wednesday, accelerating its efforts to become a force to be reckoned with in the increasingly competitive global AI race.
The Exaone 2.0 operates faster and more efficiently and saves more energy, compared with the first version introduced in December 2021, Bae Kyung-hoon, chief of LG AI Research, said at the LG AI Talk Concert at LG Science Park in western Seoul.
Exaone, short for expert AI for everyone, is a giant, multimodal language model that can understand both language and images simultaneously, thus being capable of image-to-text generation and vice versa. Multimodal means having multiple modes of communicating a message.
The research centre said the new version has evolved through machine learning of 45 million patent papers, which LG said is by far the biggest professional dataset for any AI service developing company,...

Beyonce has officially kicked off her highly-anticipated Renaissance World Tour and she did so looking like a billion bucks!
Queen B opened her sold-out show Wednesday at Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden with “Dangerously in Love” and rocked the hell out of a silver jumpsuit for the performance. The fashion show/concert continued with “Flaws and All,” “1+1,” “I’m Goin’ Down” and “I Care” before she moved on to tracks from her Renaissance album, which she dropped last July.
According to The New York Times, Beyonce opted for “futuristic fashion choices” with an “iridescent-effect minidress; a shimmery gold bodysuit festooned with black opera gloves covering strategic locations” and “a black-and-silver suit that resembled royal armor.” The outlet reported that, at one point, she was seen dressed in “sci-fi bee chic: a yellow-and-black leotard with cutouts and sharp angles, and knee-high black boots.”
