New Delhi, May 2 (Ians) Former Australian captain Michael Clarke is not pleased with Josh Hazlewood’s decision to compete in the ongoing Ipl 2023 as he believes the pacer should be focusing on preparing for the World Test Championship final and the Ashes.
After being out of action for nearly four months due to Achilles injury, Hazlewood had a successful comeback to cricketing action as he bowled three overs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in the Ipl match against Lucknow Super Giants (Lsg) and returned with impressive figures of 2/15.
Hazelwood sustained an Achilles injury during a Test match in Sydney in January and has since not featured in any format of the game.
He was initially selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India but was headed back home midway through the series to continue his rehabilitation from an Achilles complaint.

New Delhi, May 1 (Ians) Former Australian cricketers Ian Healy and Michael Clarke have slammed the possibility of England bringing in shorter boundaries for the highly-anticipated five-match Ashes series, starting from June 16 in Edgbaston.
A report in The Times said England, who have achieved tremendous success in Test cricket in the last 12 months since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum have taken over, are discussing the plan to have short boundaries in the Ashes to maximise the impact of their ultra-attacking strategy with the bat and cause a disruption of Australia’s bowling plans.
As per recent information, England’s cricket grounds are already smaller on average than their Australian counterparts. According to the Icc rules, boundaries must be at least 59 metres square and 64 metres straight for men’s Test matches.
Speaking on Sen Radio, Healy, the wicketkeeping great, feels there’s no requirement to tweak the size of boundaries for the Ashes.

With The Byrds, David Crosby covered a number of Bob Dylan songs. The band changed Dylan’s perception of how his music could sound, and the covers brought them a good deal of success. Crosby often spoke about his appreciation for Dylan. When he first heard the other artist, though, he wasn’t exactly impressed. After listening a bit more, though, Crosby wondered if he should quit music altogether.

Dylan loved The Byrds’ cover of “Mr. Tambourine Man.” Fittingly, this was Crosby’s favorite Dylan song.
“Appropriately enough, my favorite is ‘Mr. Tambourine Man,’” Crosby told Stereogum. “Our manager knew Bob’s manager [when I was in the Byrds], and got an early tape of Bob singing this thing with another folk singer. It was really terrible, it was a really bad demo.

New Delhi, Feb 21 (Ians) Australia’s cricket team landed in India at the start of February 2023 with optimism and confidence of winning their first Test series in the sub-continent. But, as of now, they are headed to the third match in Indore, starting from March 1, with a 2-0 deficit and their chances of winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy up in smoke.
Australia’s tour of India has been nothing short of a disaster, with injuries to key players, baffling selection calls and usual batting capitulation in the face of quality spin bowling making headlines back home. All of this comes especially after opting not to play a single tour match.
When Australia were skittled for 91 in the second innings of the first Test in Nagpur, it happened because the batters failed in trying to defend off the trinity of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

New Delhi, Jan 19 (Ians) Sussex have signed premier Australia batter Steve Smith on a short-term deal for three County Championship matches ahead of the 2023 Mens Ashes, which will be held from June 16 at Birmingham.
Smith will be available for selection for Sussex for their trips to Worcestershire (May 4) and Leicestershire (May 11), as well as a home game at The 1st Central County Ground on May 18, against his Australian teammate Marnus Labuschagne’s Glamorgan side.
At Sussex, Smith will be teammates with India’s veteran top-order batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who had earlier agreed to return to Sussex in October 2022 for the 2023 season.
“I am excited about joining Sussex for a few games in May and hopefully making a contribution to a successful season. I am particularly looking forward to working with the younger players in the squad and hoping I can provide some guidance to them,” said Smith in a media release.

Perth, Dec 1 (Ians) Brilliant double centuries by Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith kept Australia in a dominant position against the West Indies on the second day of the first Test at Perth Stadium, here on Thursday.
Labuschagne (204) completed his second Test double century while Smith (200 not out) made his fourth as Australia declared their first innings at 598/4.
With this, Perth witnessed the rare occurrence of two double hundreds in a single team innings. This was only the 17th instance of two double hundreds coming in a team innings in Test cricket history and also the first such instance since January 2012 when Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke made double hundreds against India in Adelaide.
In reply to their hosts’ daunting first innings total, the West Indies openers — Kraigg Brathwaite (18 not out), and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (47 not out) negotiated a tricky 25-over phase to put up 74 on the board without losing a wicket...

Sydney, Nov 7 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke has slammed Aaron Finch & Co. for their “un-Australian” brand of cricket throughout the Men’s T20 World Cup at home, which resulted in their exit from the Super 12 stage of the tournament.
Australia’s defence of their title at home began on a bad note, losing to New Zealand by 89 runs at Sydney. That crushing defeat left Australia playing catch up and despite wins against Ireland and Afghanistan, they weren’t much convincing in their performances, culminating in them finishing Group 1 in third place with a negative run rate.
“I think Australians in general, on the biggest stage under the most amount of pressure, always put in on the line and have a crack. We’re not scared to lose. Yet we picked an aggressive 11 in this World Cup squad yet played so defensively. Very un-Australian,” Clarke said on the Big Sports Breakfast radio show.

Adelaide, Nov 5 (Ians) Several leading cricketers from across around the world have reacted to Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc being left out of the playing XI in the most crucial Super 12 Group 1 game of the Icc T20 World Cup against Afghanistan on Friday, with England quick Stuart Broad expressing shock on social media.
Kane Richardson was brought in to play his first game of the tournament and he ended up conceding 48 off his four overs. Defending champions Australia were looking to win by a big margin in order to leapfrog England on net run rate (Nrr), but, while they defeated Afghanistan by just four runs in a thriller at the Adelaide Oval, the win didn’t do their Nrr any good.
England now just need a victory against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground later on Saturday and Australia will be eliminated because of their Nrr being in the negative.

Adelaide, Nov 4 (Ians) Australia’s assistant coach Daniel Vettori on Friday defended the decision to leave out Mitchell Starc for their Super 12 match against Afghanistan at T20 World Cup, saying that ‘it was a tactical decision’ as team management expected Kane Richardson to bowl better at death in comparison to the left-arm pacer.
Starc, who was used as a third or fourth bowling option instead of a new-ball bowler in most of the matches of the men’s T20 World Cup 2022, was replaced by Richardson in the playing XI for their final group game.
“It was a tactical decision to leave out Starc. We brought in Kane to play the role he executed tonight at the back end of the Power-play, looking at the death overs where Kane has been exceptional in the past. We were looking to use Josh Hazlewood at the start and implement a plan around him...

Melbourne, Oct 16 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain opined that the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup, starting from Sunday in Australia, will give fans chances to see hard-fought battles between 16 teams apart from some top-drawer performances in 45 matches to be held over the next 28 days.

Not much separates the teams, and the tournament promises some hard-fought battles and top-drawer performances. Melbourne, Oct 7 (Ians) Former Australia captain and top-order batter Steve Smith has said he might not be as “strong and powerful” as some other cricketers in the side like Cameron Green but his utility on home wickets cannot be underestimated as he can punch and time the ball really well.
Smith was not included in the playing XI in the opening T20I against the West Indies at Carrara on October 5, with young allrounder Green getting the nod for the game, despite the youngster not being a part of Australia’s T20 World Cup 15-member squad.
The selectors’ decision to drop Smith has invited a lot of criticism, with experts saying Cricket Australia is getting its priorities wrong ahead of the showpiece event, beginnng on October 16.

Sydney, Oct 7 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke has flayed his country’s selectors for including young allrounder Cameron Green, who is not in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, in the opening match of the two-match T20I series against the West Indies, while Steve Smith — who is in the World Cup squad — was not included in the playing XI.
Australia won the opening match against the Caribbean side by three wickets in Gold Coast on Thursday with Green scoring just 14 as opener.

Dubai, Sep 19 (Ians) Former Australia skipper and two-time World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting applauded opener Aaron Finch for stepping down from the Odi leadership role as well as the format, calling it “a really noble thing”.
Since his debut in 2011, Finch played 146 ODIs for Australia, averaging 38.89 with the bat and his tally of 17 hundreds in ODIs is the third-most by any player from the country. But an average of just 12.42 in ODIs this year, including just one fifty, meant the writing was on the wall for Finch on his Odi future.
“I wasn’t surprised actually. I sort of personally felt that he was probably one game away or one failure away from getting dropped anyway. That’s how bad his last 12 months have been in one-day international cricket.”
“I think it was the right time. I actually thought it was really noble, what he said as well, that stepping down when he did,...

Bringing the literary work of Stephen King to life on the big screen is incredibly difficult. King's novels are layered with complex characters, unique locations, and downright bizarre stories. But Frank Darabont seems to have found the right formula. The director responsible for "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Mist" also brought one of King's most impactful works to life while earning a Best Picture Oscar nomination.
King, always on the cusp of publishing trends, released "The Green Mile" in 1996 as a six-part serial novel. It is told through the eyes of Great Depression-era death row prison guard Paul Edgecomb, but it is ultimately the story of John Coffey. Coffey is a mountainous, simple-yet-magical Black man wrongly accused of raping and killing two young white girls. Coffey faces the barbarous racism of the 1930s South while grappling with being cursed with a healing touch.
