This week’s Saturday Night Live made several strong impressions:
Ryan Gosling is a natural as host. Ryan Gosling breaks a lot in sketches. Ryan Gosling makes other cast members break a lot.
Also: Beavis and Butthead can’t miss.
All that and a cameo from Caitlin Clark.
This was a funny show. It was a silly, slapsticky, sight-gaggy, bawdy, big-laugh show, and Gosling was in the middle of most of it.
He arrived with expectations, of course. His “Ken” lifted his movie career to an impressive new level, because of his willingness to embrace and embody the iconic vapid essence of that character—er, doll. That had to be addressed last night of course, and was, in one of the more elaborate, prop and costume-heavy monologue segments of recent vintage.
But Gosling also resurrected his “Todd” character in a callback to one of the more consistently funny recurring sketches...

Ryan Gosling, this week’s Saturday Night Live guest host, teamed up with SNL alum Kate McKinnon and Sarah Sherman in an opening sketch in which they described to government investigators their experience being abducted by aliens.
While Sherman’s and Gosling’s characters played it straight, McKinnon’s portrayal of Colleen Rafferty–a staple during her time on the show–was anything but.
Lounging with legs apart and puffing on a cigarette, McKinnon’s character recalled being “vacuumed” up into an extraterrestrial aircraft.

Ryan Gosling returned to “SNL” this week in a cold open with “Barbie” co-star Kate McKinnon, reviving one of their most famous sketches, “Close Encounter,” in which they recount being abducted by aliens and their vastly different experiences aboard the spaceship.
The original sketch debuted eight years ago and featured Gosling and McKinnon, alongside Cecily Strong (it currently has 60 million views on YouTube). The actor also recreated this sketch on his second time hosting six years ago. In every attempt to act through “Close Encounter” Gosling has heroically attempted to get through McKinnon’s genius bit without breaking, every time he has failed. Endearingly, Gosling broke again at least once during this one.
Bowen Yang and Mike Day played Nsa investigators in tonight’s cold open. Day tells Gosling, McKinnon, and Sarah Sherman, “Now you’re all here because you’ve experienced a verified alien abduction.”

Saturday Night Live wasted no time getting to the good stuff this week: another alien abduction sketch, with host Ryan Gosling joined by (and trying hard not to laugh at) former cast member Kate McKinnon.
In the cold open, Gosling returned as alien abductee Todd, with McKinnon reprising her role as the chain-smoking Miss Rafferty, who always has a much less pleasant encounter with the extraterrestrials. (The sketch debuted in 2015 with Gosling as host and returned for his 2017 stint as well.) This time, Todd and Miss Rafferty were joined by Sarah Sherman’s other abductee… and Todd wants to clarify...

Ryan Gosling just couldn’t let go of his character Ken from Barbie during his Saturday Night Live monologue.
Though he initially said he wasn’t going to talk about Ken because he “broke up” with the character after going “too deep,” he ultimately decided to sing about his feelings with a rendition of Taylor Swift’s hit song “All Too Well.”
“You know, when you play a character that hard, that long, just letting go feels like a breakup and for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help: The music of the great Taylor Swift,” the La La Land actor said.
Gosling then proceeded to sing, “I shredded Venice Beach is true / My clothes were tight / But something about that spandex felt so right / I left my rollerblades in that big pink house / But I still got that fur coat and I’ll wear...

Kate McKinnon returned to Saturday Night Live for yet another “Close Encounter” alien abduction cold open, joining with this week’s host Ryan Gosling for the popular sketch. And as he has before, Gosling struggled not to laugh and to stay in character.
As she has in the past, McKinnon played Colleen Rafferty, one of her most popular and memorable characters. As in past sketches, after Pentagon officials listen to abductees describe their experiences like spiritual awakenings, Rafferty relays bawdy and sexualized encounters with the alien beings. Gosling played Todd, another abductee, along with Sarah Sherman.
This time around, the sketch was even more outrageous, as Colleen demonstrated the aliens interest in Todd’s private part, or as it is referred to, “troll nose.”
“Just in case you are wondering, I did not become aroused,” Gosling, as Todd, said. “Anytime I felt like I might, I just looked at Colleen here.

The two were later joined by fellow original Suits cast members Sarah Rafferty, currently co-starring in the breakout new Netflix series My Life With the Walter Boys, and Gina Torres, now on 9-1-1: Lone Star.
The reunion came four years after Suits ended its run on USA Network and months after the legal drama found new global audience on Netflix, setting streaming records as the top series of the summer.
The series’ newfound success was referenced by Adams.
“There’s nothing more dramatic or anxiety-inducing than waiting all night to hear that your category is finally arrived,” Macht said when the two took the stage, to which Adams replied, “Yes, that’s true.

More than a decade since it first premiered, "Suits" is having a well-deserved resurgence thanks to its Netflix release earlier this summer. Featuring an all-star cast that includes Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter), Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross), Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt), Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen), Meghan Markle (Rachel Zane), and Gina Torres (Jessica Pearson), the legal drama officially wrapped in 2019, though the actors' bond off screen has remained strong through the years.
In fact, several cast members and their significant others were even invited to Markle's royal wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, shortly after the Duchess of Sussex retired from acting. From attending weddings and birthday parties to press appearances and casual hangouts, the employees at Pearson Hardman - or Pearson Specter Litt, depending on where you are in your rewatch - are just as much of a family in real life.

Whether you're discovering "Suits" for the first time or hitting play on your fifth rewatch, I think we can all agree that Harvey Specter and Donna Paulsen are a delight on screen. Aside from their will-they-won't-they romance spanning nine seasons, the Darvey friendship is a highlight of the series. Though their chemistry may have you fooled, actors Gabriel Macht and Sarah Rafferty are more like brother and sister in real life.
The two actually became pals long before "Suits" first aired in 2011. They met in the summer of 1993 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and have been friends ever since. Macht was a bridesmaid in Rafferty's wedding to Santtu Seppälä in 2001, while Rafferty was there when Macht married Jacinda Barrett in 2004. Even Macht's daughter and Rafferty's first child, who were both born in 2007, are the best of friends. In an Instagram birthday tribute to Macht in 2019, Rafferty expressed her gratitude...

Perhaps you’ve heard but it’s been a very Suits summer.
Despite airing its final episode in September 2019, USA Network’s legal procedural Suits has been the talk of the streaming world ever since its first eight seasons arrived to Netflix on June 17. All nine seasons have been streaming on Peacock for far longer but Netflix, as the biggest streaming service, tends to drive the most attention. Per Nielsen, Suits has already broken its own streaming record with 3.7 billion minutes viewed the first week of July and viewership intensity doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
The potential reasons for Suits‘ surge in popularity are manyfold. While the dual WGA and Sga strikes shouldn’t have led to an extended pause in summer content in theory, some studios have juggled their schedules a bit to weather the storm for the fall season. Additionally, Suits‘ basic cable format...

In 1973, the band Stealers Wheel released “Stuck in the Middle With You,” a song that many listeners have incorrectly attributed to Bob Dylan. Dylan had nothing to do with the song, but it’s unsurprising that people think it was his. The lyrics sound like Dylan could have written them, and the nasally vocals sound like his. In reality, “Stuck in the Middle With You” was a surprise hit that singer Gerry Rafferty wrote to parody Dylan.

Actor Jude Law is a dad to six children, having welcomed his youngest little one with his wife, Phillipa Coan, in 2020. Jude shares his other five children with three women. Altogether, his kids range in age from 26 to two years old.
Hit franchises like Sherlock Holmes and Fantastic Beasts, as well as Christmas classics like "The Holiday," have cemented Jude as one of Hollywood's A-list actors. Still, as far as his children are concerned, he mainly keeps them out of the spotlight, choosing not to divulge much info about them. We do know a little bit about his brood, though.
Jude's oldest children are somewhat in the public eye - as models with their parents' exceptionally good looks - while the younger ones lead more private lives (though you might spot some on their mother's Instagram here and there). Get to know Jude's six children ahead.

Back in the mid-eighties, a filmmaker named Kevin Rafferty decided he wanted to include footage from a Ku Klux Klan rally in his documentary about white supremacists. A colleague suggested Rafferty give Michael Moore a call. The editor of a progressive weekly newspaper in his hometown of Flint, Michigan, Moore regularly embarrassed neo-Nazis and other right-wingers on his local radio show, so he was able to set up a lunch date with the grand wizard of the Klan and secure an invitation to a weekend rally. There would be Klan weddings,...

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the Season 8 premiere of NBC’s Chicago Med.
NBC’s Chicago Med returned for its eighth season tonight and while there will be a sad goodbye said to a series regular, there was also a shocking return in the final beats of the episode worthy of celebration.
And so is the life of emergency service workers—unpredictable and often complicated and tough. But as the seasons unfold, what’s always certain is that Gaffney Chicago Medical Center knows how to always bring on the drama.

All four make it to the ER but not everyone is in good shape. Milena/Jo,...

There are changes coming to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Both Guy Lockard and Sarah Rafferty, who portrayed Dr. Dylan Scott and Dr. Pamela Blake, respectively, are leaving NBC’s “Chicago Med,” Variety confirms. Additionally, Yaya DaCosta, who exited the show in 2021 after six seasons, has returned as April Sexton.
During the Season 8 premiere Dylan chose to leave his job at the hospital following the death of Jo (Riley Voelkel), an undercover cop he became romantically involved with last season, who died in the ER. Co-showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov confirmed his exit.
“Right now, we’ve finished that arc of his story, so he is leaving right now, but we have people leave and we have them come back. We’re leaving that door open,” Frolov told Variety. Schneider added, “We love Guy. He did a great job and was wonderful to work with. But what was sort of...

Kate McKinnon is reflecting further on her decision to depart Saturday Night Live — and her failed goal to make out with each and every one of her colleagues as part of her May 21 sendoff. (We swear that second part will make sense soon.)

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Kate McKinnon is entering the “Saturday Night Live” episode “Host: Natasha Lyonne” as her 2022 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. “Host: Natasha Lyonne” aired on May 21 and is the 21st episode and Season 47 finale of the NBC sketch series.
In this installment, which marks McKinnon’s final episode after 11 seasons, the actress reprised fan-favorite character Mrs. Rafferty in the cold open. After the the usual shtick by the chain-smoking Mrs. Rafferty, she volunteers to join the aliens in exchange for Earth getting alien tech. As Mrs. Rafferty boards the spacecraft, a visibly emotional and teary McKinnon clutches her chest and bids adieu. “Earth, I love ya!” she says. “Thanks for letting me stay a while.” McKinnon was one of four cast members to depart in the finale, the others being Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson and Kyle Mooney. She and Bryant later appeared in Mooney’s final sketch,...

“I thought about [leaving] for a very long time, and it was very, very hard,” McKinnon said during Thursday’s episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan. “All I ever wanted to do in my whole life was be on Saturday Night Live. Outgoing Saturday Night Live cast member Kate McKinnon kept a long streak of Emmy nominations alive for her final season on the show.
McKinnon scored her ninth consecutive acting nomination for her work on the long-running NBC sketch show’s 47th season. She was the only one of the four departing cast members — Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson and Kyle Mooney were the others — to score a nomination Tuesday.
SNL cast members only scored two nominations total in the comedy supporting acting categories, with Bowen Yang joining McKinnon. That was down from five nominations a year ago (McKinnon, Yang, Bryant, Cecily Strong and Kenan Thompson).
McKinnon has won two previous Emmys, in 2016 and 2017, for her work on SNL. In addition to her nine acting nominations for the show, she also shared in a nomination for outstanding music and lyrics in 2014.
