- SWAN: No, picture it - it's not just drag queens, they're monster drag queens DRAC: and we're gonna make them do Fear Factor
- When asked what scares them, DB: Most recently, Resident Evil the video game. It is actually scary! I don't get scared by movies or haunted houses at all. I love them, and I love the content and I love the emotional response, but I don't get that fear about them. But I started playing that video game and it legitimately scared me in a way I haven't been since I was a kid. SB: On the flip side, I am the yin to your yang and everything scares me. Movies scare me. I squirm. But to match Drac in something that is silly but accurate, low blood sugar scares me. When I have to work a ton and I can't eat, it scares the shit out of me because I turn into a fucking monster. DB: That scares me, I don't know why it scares you. I'm the one that has to deal with that. Scratch my answer, that's what I'm afraid of!
- Dragula shines a light on a corner of queer life that is rarely depicted on television including the harsh reality some gay men, lesbians, and trans people face while living and performing as underground queer artists in their respective communities
- SWAN: We look back on the impact Queen Kong has had on queer nightlife in Los Angeles with love and great joy. It is our favorite event we've produced to date and we will always love it,
- SWAN: To us, drag is a form of radical self expression. It's an art, and the last thing an artist needs is to be told what to do, so we're gonna do what we want.
- We are not here to judge your drag. Drag is art and art is subjective.
- Drac: The Dragula competition is like the Boulet School of Drag - we put the contestants through our experiences to shape them into what we perceive is a Drag Supermonster.
- And as we know the alternative drag community is full of creativity and there are so many stars out there... we have to bring them out
- These girls, you can just see how much they've elevated in their confidence and in their performance. We're so proud of what everyone has done
- As far as how we create our looks, there isn't a plan really, we just start getting inspired by something and it grows from there. It might be a hat we find, or something we make, or the feathers on a particular bird we see - it's very random. We get inspired, and just take it as far as we can go with it.
- I had blood all over me and my wig, I had fish guts all over me, the crowd was covered in food, it was just such a night, there were trampolines involved...
- I think our polish is the result of one of us being extremely detail oriented and the other being a sadistic perfectionist. We draw inspiration from horror movies and super villains, and then we throw in a little dash of 1980s camp and humor. You can also see some British sitcom references in our drag!
- The death scenes are some of our favourite things to conceptualise and shoot. We write them all and then assign each of our ghouls the death of our choosing. It's the perfect way for the two of us to live out some of our favourite horror culture fantasies and to take out our frustrations on the cast.
- SWAN: Horror and drag are two tenets of Dragula no doubt, but we also add a pinch of filth and a splash of glamour to make the magical mix that is Boulet Brothers Dragula. All of these elements come from our collective life experience growing up as queer weirdos.
- It is often misunderstood monsters or antagonizers (sic) who are not trusted by the society around them. It is so obvious that queer people are going to see themselves in those monsters.
- Drag and horror are both subversive by nature and share so much DNA, they said. The fans of both often reject the mainstream and share a common love of celebrating the moment when the popular girl dies a grisly death and the un-celebrated outcast gets her revenge! Horror and drag also have the common threads of darkness and danger weaved wondrously through their fabric.
- When we moved from New York to Los Angeles, we just didn't find our cup of tea in the nightlife scene, so we decided to start our own club - the rest is history. Oh and as for how we came to be called the Boulet Brothers, that's our own little secret.
