ABC‘s long-running sitcom The Goldbergs will come to an end with its ongoing tenth season. Deadline broke the news about the ’80s-set comedy series, revealing that the season finale set to air this May will also serve as the show’s series finale. The news may not come as a major surprise as the show’s undergone some significant changes in recent seasons with the loss of the late George Segal, who played Pops, and the exit of Jeff Garlin as patriarch Murray Goldberg. (Credit: Bob D’Amico / © ABC / Courtesy: Everett Collection) The half-hour series from creator Adam F. Goldberg made its debut back in 2013 and has managed to deliver more than 200 episodes to fans over its ten-year run. At the heart of it all are remaining series regulars Wendi McLendon-Covey as matriarch Beverly, Sean Giambrone as Adam, Troy Gentile as Barry, Hayley Orrantia as Erica, and Sam Lerner as Erica’s hubby Geoff Schwartz.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Goldbergs Season 10, Episode 5, “Uncle-ing.”] It feels like just yesterday that Erica Goldberg (Hayley Orrantia) was against the idea of giving Geoff Schwartz (Sam Lerner) the time of day on The Goldbergs, but this pair has come a long way and are facing their biggest milestone to date on the ABC comedy in the episode, “Uncle-ing.” While much of the installment focuses on Adam (Sean Giambrone) and Barry’s (Troy Gentile) quest to learn how to be the best uncles possible, the other half of the episode sees Erica eager to escape home for a mini babymoon before her and Geoff’s bundle of joy arrives. Of course, nothing goes as planned as Geoff books them reservations at an adult spa resort with questionable facilities and tricks Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) to “follow” them in the wrong direction so the couple can have proper alone time. “The Goldbergs” has been renewed for Season 10 at ABC.
However, questions still remain about how the single-camera comedy series will handle Jeff Garlin’s character, Murray Goldberg, going into the new season.
Garlin exited “The Goldbergs” in December following an investigation into the comedian’s onset behavior after he was accused of misconduct. Variety exclusively reported that Garlin would still be a part of Season 9 through the use of off-camera dialogue pulled from earlier episodes and unused takes, as well as previously shot images of Garlin.
According to an individual with knowledge of the production, official plans for Garlin’s character are forthcoming, but it is likely that he will be written off the show.
“The Goldbergs” remains one of ABC’s more popular shows even this late in its run. Season to date, the show is averaging a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49 and just over 4 million viewers per episode in the Nielsen Live+7 ratings.

Every girl dreams of her wedding day, with fire breathers, unicorns and acrobats. Actually, this is ABC’s ’80s-centric comedy The Goldbergs, so those dreams belong to well-meaning but overzealous mother of the bride Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey), who’s all too helpful when it comes to only daughter Erica (Hayley Orrantia) saying “I do” to fiancé Geoff Schwartz (Sam Lerner). “In typical Beverly fashion, she has her own plans for their ceremony and is going to try to insert those ideas as much as she can,” Orrantia says. “It becomes a tug of war.” Erica’s big day coincides with a big day for the family sitcom: Episode No. 200! But there’s a hitch in getting hitched when the couple consider postponing, Orrantia explains, “so we have time to reconvene and figure out ‘How do we make this wedding the way we really want it?’” Erica copes with the...

Joshua Malina (Scandal) and Beth Triffon (Ten Days in the Valley) have joined the casts of Showtime’s Shameless and ABC’s The Goldbergs, respectively, in recurring roles. Both initially signed for one-episode guest shots, which have already aired. Both were received well and ultimately turned into sizeable guest arcs.
Malina recurs as Arthur Trilling on the eleventh and final season of Shameless. Arthur is a longtime Chicago cop who stays safe on the job by refusing to leave his squad car. Then he is assigned Carl Gallagher as his junior partner and that changed everything.
Starring William H. Macy, the final season of Shameless finds the Gallagher family and the South Side at a crossroads, with changes caused by the Covid pandemic, gentrification and aging to reconcile.
Jeremy Allen, Ethan Cutkosky, Cameron Monaghan, Noel Fisher, Steve Howey, Shanola Hampton, Christian Isaiah and Kate Miner also star.

The Goldbergs will pay homage to the classic 1983 film National Lampoon’s Vacation in its annual fall tribute premiere episode on September 25. Christie Brinkley and Anthony Michael Hall have been tapped to guest star in the episode.
In “Vacation”, Beverly (Wendi McClendon-Covey) insists the family take a road trip to go on vacation to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, before Erica (Hayley Orrantia) and Barry (Troy Gentile) go off to college. But, like the film, things do not go as planned as they travel across the country. Meanwhile, Erica worries more and more about her relationship with Geoff (Sam Lerner) when he teases “we need to talk” and won’t tell her anything until the family returns from their adventure.
Hall and Brinkley will guest star in roles to be announced at a later date.

Geoff Schwartz from The Goldberg, the character who struggles with relationships and love, is played by a talented actor Sam Lerner. Lerner, who was born on September 27, 1992, has been part of the show business industry since the age of nine. His acting career began after he talked to actors Ellen Gerstein and Dot-Marie Jones at a New Year’s Eve party he was attending with his family. Gerstein appeared to see something in Lerner, who she recommended to Hollywood talent manager, Susan Curtis. While his parents were hesitant at first, he begged them to give him a shot. He’s the […]
