This Quantum Leap review contains spoilers.
Quantum Leap Episode 16
Quantum Leap’s “Ben, Interrupted” warrants a heartfelt, Oh boy! This episode embodies all the scary intensity one can imagine in a trip to a mental institution in 1954, an era rife with the torture and murder of patients in the name of science. At the height of malpractice, a spouse, typically a husband, could easily have their “loved one” committed. Such is the situation of Judith; the young woman Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) is supposed to save.
Judith’s husband brought her to the George’s Island Asylum where she is diagnosed and “treated” for hysteria, which translates, in Judith’s case, to a woman who is unable to bear children. Ben’s host is a private detective, Liam O’Connor, who is paid handsomely by Judith’s sister to go undercover and help Judith escape by becoming a patient himself.

It takes some mental flexibility to keep up with the twists and turns of Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 16, wherein Ben initially looks like a patient, turns out to be a detective, but then has to call upon some superhuman abilities.
With only two weeks to the finale, new revelations are flying fast and thick, and everyone's understandably on edge.
Janis's return is a catalyst for some strong feelings and her strident conviction that she knows best conflicts mightily with how Magic and Addison see things.
Like on Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 7, where Ben encounters what appears to be the supernatural, his foray into a mental institution in 1954 is fraught with elements of horror and sadism that smack of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and, most obviously, Girl, Interrupted (from which the episode's title is drawn.)

There are only two episodes left in Quantum Leap’s inaugural season after Monday’s episode, and we finally know who the mole is.
Ben’s latest leap placed him in the body of a private investigator named Liam in the 1950s, who went undercover as a patient at a nightmarish mental asylum to retrieve his client’s sister Judith. Judith refused to leave without first getting the confidential documents that would bring down the whole institution, which meant Ben’s new mission focused on helping her access those vital papers.
