Sai Chang was born in the small city of Can Tho, Vietnam. Sai is the third generation of men in his family to practice Reiki energy healing. His father and grandfather traveled from village to village in the southern coast of Vietnam healing those in need. Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Since it's beginning in Japan, Reiki has been adapted across varying cultural traditions. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing or hands-on-healing. Through the use of this technique, practitioners believe that they are transferring "qi" universal energy through the palms of the practitioner, which they believe encourages healing.
Energy healers believe that the through the practice of "qi", your mind and body can use life energy forces around you to help cure physiological and psychological ailments. Reiki healing in combination with herbal medicine can cleanse and heal the body and mind, in the most spiritual and holistic manner. Growing up, Sai was taught Reiki energy healing techniques from his father and grandfather.
When his father would travel for long periods to time to heal people in the other villages, Sai stayed with his mom and sister. His sister worked at a US air force base; there she met her husband, an air force pilot. In the spring of 1975, the country of Vietnam engaged in war. The Vietnam War was devastating and many people died. When Vietnam broke into in great chaos, Sai's father believed that it was safest for his children to escape the communist regime and seek refuge in the United States of America.
At the age of 11, Sai had to leave his parents and escape with the US missionaries as refugees to the USA. Sai and his sister stayed a refugee camp in the Philippines for two weeks before, it was finally deemed safe for entry into California.
Sai lived with his sister and her husband in Sacramento, California. After school, he would practice Tai Chi and other forms of martial arts. Sai even went on to further develop the Tai Chi scorpion system. When he was in his 20's, he attended a Buddhist temple and apprenticed under a monk that practiced Reiki healing, where he later earned the title of Master Chang. For many years, Sai traveled across the USA to those that sought him out for treatment. They were willing to try Reiki healing, when modern medicine had failed to treat their ailments. Sai currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana where he continues to this day to teach Reiki healing techniques as well as treating those that come to him seeking help.
