Yang Xiao's recent works include moving image, photography, and comics, and he advocates a media practice that balances reflexivity and cine-trance. Influenced by anarchist anthropology and French director Jean Rouch, he and Chen Sisi founded the "Badlands Film Group", which is dedicated to rediscovering the form of media that connects the weak. Their latest film THE MEMO was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film at the 60th Golden Horse Awards.
Yang Xiao's personal works such as THE MOUNTAINS SING, CHRONICLE OF A DURIAN , and THE SUSPENDED STEP have been awarded, exhibited or curated in international film festivals or contemporary art spaces in Clermont-Ferrand, Tampere, Busan, Hawaii, Hamburg, Taipei, Hangzhou and Beijing etc.
In addition, he has worked as an assistant director and storyboard painter on KAILI BLUES and THE WILD GOOSE LAKE, as well as an editor on films such as 14 PAINTINGS and THE FALL.
