:When it comes to teen coming-of-age movies, the premise of Hulu's "Miguel Wants to Fight" sounds pretty formulaic. Our hero Miguel wants to get into a fight before moving out of town and is helped by his group of loyal friends. Think "American Pie" but violence - rather than sex.
Director Oz Rodriguez's "Miguel Wants to Fight" is about trying to fit yourself into the mold society says you should be in. In this particular case, it's a physically aggressive male, which isn't true to who our protagonist is.
"This kid lives in a town where fighting is a big deal. Where boxing is a huge deal and his dad is a fighter," Rodriguez tells Popsugar, "Miguel would rather not. He just wants to watch movies and watch dudes beat up themselves."
Still, that's where Miguel finds himself, butting up against cultural norms that can be pretty limiting for Latino boys.

The rules of the streets are clear: If a brawl ensues, you fight too. It doesn’t matter who threw the first punch or instigated the fracas. A blow at your friend is an attack on the group.
It’s odd, then, that Miguel (Tyler Dean Flores), the protagonist of Miguel Wants to Fight, a spry and entertaining film directed by Oz Rodriguez, has never even thrown a punch. His friends aren’t habitual fighters, but even they’ve found themselves in the middle of a melee or two. Plus, Miguel’s dad (Raúl Castillo) runs a boxing studio and the kid’s obsessed with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
So, what gives? Is it inexperience? (Yes). Lack of confidence? (That too). Fear? (Bingo).

Updated, 9:09 a.m.: “Miguel, have you ever gotten into a fight?” Tyler Dean Flores’ high schooler is asked in the first trailer for the Hulu Original Film, Miguel Wants to Fight. “It’s like what everyone does.”
He once got into an altercation outside of a grocery store, involving “aggressively hugging,” he recalls. But realizing that this doesn’t count, he succumbs to a bit of peer pressure, embarking on a series of misadventures with his three best friends — the stoic David (Christian Vunipola), the rowdy Cass (Imani Lewis) and the quick-tongued Srini (Suraj Partha) — as he tries to get into his first real brawl.
Read more about the film, arriving on Hulu on August 16th, below. Check out the trailer above.

“House of the Dragon” star Steve Toussaint spoke out against the backlash from some readers who criticized his casting as famed sailor Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka the “Sea Snake,” in the HBO series. The outrage stems from the fact this character, the husband of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, is not a Black man in George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” which is what the “Game of Thrones” prequel series is based on.
“Because other than, as we spoke about yesterday, other than certain people’s viewpoints about someone who looks like me playing this part, it hasn’t really played a part in the role, in my experience on the job with my fellow actors,” Toussaint said during the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday, responding to a question asked by moderator Jason Concepcion, who was referencing an earlier conversation they had in private. “As I said,...
