When the teaser trailer for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" debuted last March, our reintroduction to Delia Deetz (Catherine O'Hara) and Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) was a somber one. The mother and daughter were standing graveside in a cemetery, mourning an undisclosed character. Fans of the original quickly guessed that the person being committed to the Earth was the family's patriarch, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones), but Tim Burton, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, refused to confirm this suspicion. "We'll see," was all he said at the time.
Two months later, with the release of the first full theatrical trailer, this minor mystery has been solved thanks to an utterance by Jenna Ortega, who plays Lydia's rebellious teenage daughter Astrid. "I can't believe grandpa's dead." It's Charles' death, then, that serves as the catalyst for the sequel's plot, as confirmed by the following synopsis:

It's showtime!
Warner Bros. has unveiled the first full trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and it gives us a much better idea of what to expect from Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel.
The footage begins with Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) returning to Winter River with her mother Delia (Catherine O'Hara) and daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) for her father's funeral (confirming reports that Jeffrey Jones' Charles Deetz has been killed off), when memories of her encounter with lecherous demon Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) resurface.
Lydia explains what happened all those years ago to Astrid, who proceeds to say the Ghost with the Most's name three times, summoning the Bio-Exorcist back to the land of the living.
The previous teaser suggested that Betelgeuse might be seeking revenge, but it looks like he'll be putting his differences with Lydia aside in an effort to rescue Astrid.
Who takes Lydia's daughter and why is not clear,...

Beetlejuice is back: The first official trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has arrived. Watch it below.
Serving as a sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice, the film arrives courtesy of original director Tim Burton and his slated for release on September 6th. The film features several returning cast members from the 1988 original as well, including Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, and Michael Keaton as Mr. Juice himself.
Meanwhile, new cast members include Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid, Monica Belluci as Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe as the ghost detective Wolf Jackson.
The film sees Delia and Lydia move back to their home in Winter River, Connecticut following the death of Charles Deetz (played by Jefffrey Jones in the original movie). Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, soon discovers the model of Winter River in the attic and, against her mother’s wishes, says Beetlejuice’s name three times.

Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the Beetlejuice sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…for reasons that will soon be obvious.
Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in the Beetlejuice sequel– or pretty much any other legitimate movie – following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work – a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from Ferris Bueller baddie to Who’s Your Caddy?

Will Jeffrey Jones appear in Tim Burton’s hugely anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
That’s the question on the mind of eagle-eyed fans of the upcoming Warner Bros. film’s trailer, who noticed a glimpse of the actor on a headstone in a funeral scene. But a rep for Jones confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor does not appear in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The funeral is attended by Catherine O’Hara (playing Delia Deetz, second wife of Jones’ Charles Deetz in the original film), Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz, Charles’ daughter with his first, deceased wife) and Jenna Ortega (a newcomer to the franchise, who plays Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s teenage daughter).
In Beetlejuice, Charles is a big-city real estate developer who buys a Connecticut home after the previous owners — the Maitlands, played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis — die in a car accident.

Altogether now: Daaaaaayo! Yes, with a version of the opening call of Harry Belafonte's 'Banana Boat Song,' the first teaser for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice announces its intention to A) continue the story of the 1988 film and B) unleash fresh chaos from Michael Keaton's Ghost with the Most. Take a look:
Burton, of course, is back to direct once more, with the likes of Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara reprising their roles alongside Keaton, and new recruits including Wednesday's Jenna Ortega (that show's Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the script).
It has been a long old road back to screens for Keaton's classic character (the second to return in as many years following a certain Caped Crusader), and after decades in development, this has a lot to live up to. Or a lot to die down to? It is Beetlejuice, after all.
Here's the official synopsis: "After an unexpected family tragedy,...

It’s showtime again, baby. On September 5, Warner Bros. will finally release the long-gestating sequel to “Beetlejuice” after decades lingering in the Netherworld. Ahead of the film’s trailer release, Entertainment Weekly has provided two first-look stills from Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” The first image shows Michael Keaton back in his glory as the whitty con artist ghost, and another one with a funeral scene (mourning the death of patriarch Charles Deetz?) that features modern members of the Deetz family wearing quite fashion-focused goth outfits.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Bee–ah, that was a close one! A massive success upon release, Beetlejuice went through a strange and unusual production that saw multiple rewrites and firings, not to mention the dodging of some seriously questionable casting choices. But through the terrific performances by its cast and creative skirting around a small budget, the movie became one of the best horror-comedies ever, worthy of a sequel that has been in development hell for over three decades.
So let’s open up the handbook for the recently deceased and shake, shake, shake senora because it’s showtime! Let’s to find out…Wtf Happened to this movie?!
Following the massive success of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, which pulled in $40 million on a $7 million budget, Tim Burton had his pick of what his next project would be. One thing he knew, it wouldn’t be talking horse movie Hot to Trot.
