Saathiya Starred Rani Mukerji & Vivek Oberoi With Tabu & Shah Rukh Khan In Special Roles (Photo Credit –IMDb)
Saathiya was released 23 years ago! Yes, let that sink in. The year when Adnan Sami just Udi udi-ed his way to our hearts. The year Sonu Nigam peaked with his notes, and Gulzar peaked with his pen while he wrote, “Maarva ki raag mein, Meer ki baat ho!” The year Shah Rukh Khan established how cameos should and could be done!
Starring Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji, the film was an unexpected success for its unique storytelling, mixing timezones, a fresh style for the Indian audiences in a commercial film.
For the first time, I watched this Shaad Ali film on TV in 2006 or so, and I loved it. Of course, who does not love a Yash Raj Film? And I craved watching it in theaters. Thanks to Mumbai, I got this chance...

The Ott platforms are getting hyperactive: Jio and Disney+Hotstar have become a single entity, Netflix has announced 22 new projects, all with top filmmakers and Amazon Prime has set March 19 as the date for launching what it calls The Next Chapter of the India Story!
The Ott platforms arrived in the country in 2016 but the awareness about them took some time to build up. People were happy with their films and television serials. The Ott platforms did not come for free. Their subscription rates were much higher than the local cable or satellite Set Top Box (Stb) rates.
Besides, all these platforms initially offered mainly international content to our viewers, who had been fed on Hindi content, be it films or TV. The audience for Hollywood films in India was limited mainly to a few metros. And all those who watched Hollywood films were familiar with the stars and had their favourites.

Rani Mukerji Recalls How Pathaan Turned Out To Be A Game-Changer After Streak Of Failures For Yrf!(Photo Credit –Instagram/IMDb)
Like most industries, even cinema faced a difficult phase during the post-pandemic era. Major Bollywood biggies were witnessing failures at the box office, and many were convinced that the Hindi film industry was nearing its end. Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, changed the perception and how! Rani Mukerji is now recalling how the dry spell ended for Yrf. Scroll below for more details.
Yrf released a streak of films after the Covid era. No one could have ever thought a film starring Akshay Kumar could badly tank at the box office after the actor delivered consecutive successes recently. But it happened with Bachchan Pandey. Similar was the case with other Yrf releases, including Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera, Saif Ali Khan & Rani Mukerji’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 and The Great Indian Family...

Bollywood A-list star Rani Mukerji was in refreshingly candid form at Mumbai’s Ficci Frames media industry conference, proffering frank opinions on the Indian theatrical business.
The usual Hindi-language domination of the all-India box office was reversed for a period in 2021-22, when films from the south of India, including “Rrr,” “Kantara,” “Ponniyin Selvan” and “Vikram” dominated, and the northern counterparts from’ Bollywood’ struggled to become hits. Since then, the north-south competition has evolved again.
In 2023, there were only three south Indian films in the box office top 10, “Salaar,” “Jailer” and “Leo,” at numbers four, six and seven, respectively. However, Hindi-language films made by south Indian filmmakers – “Jawan” in pole position and “Animal” in third – performed exceedingly well.
“They listen to what the audiences want,” Mukerji said. “When cinema is evolving and everybody’s trying to cater to a diverse audience, sometimes you lose touch with the popular or the...

Box-office highlights of 2023 include the breakout successes of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” and disruptor titles like “Sound of Freedom” and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.” We’ve also seen the weakness of star-driven legacy franchises like “Mission: Impossible.” However, none may carry the same consequences as the stunning non-response to “The Marvels.”
With a $47 million domestic, $110 million worldwide opening, this MCU sequel is below any below-normal figure for this franchise. It’s the 17th-best opening of 2023. MCU titles regularly place in the top five of most years. It tied with two other MCU films with a lowest-ever B Cinemascore.
There’s little hope for recovery even with Thanksgiving weekend ahead, making this the second of three MCU titles (after “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”) to show a loss this year.
That’s bad news for Marvel, especially since its winning title was directed by current DC Film chief James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3...

After 2017, we have finally got our Og spy back on the big screens. Yes, Salman Khan as Tiger is back in ‘Tiger 3’, and watching him again after around five years is nothing short of a treat. We got a chance to watch ‘Tiger 3’ and we can say it’s a must-watch action entertainer.
As Tiger, Salman Khan has a different aura altogether. He’s the messiest of all. He is unbeatable. Fun-loving, intense, brimming over with swag, adventurous, he is everything when it comes to his family. But ‘Tiger 3’, as a whole, is a unique film with an amazing storyline, amazing action sequences, mind-blowing VFX, surprising cameos, and the iconic Bgm.
If we look at the storyline, it’s unique. We can say that we as an audience have not seen such a story before. It’s interesting and will keep you engaged throughout.

Lesson reinforced: If you release the ninth film in a series, make sure there’s a smaller number in the title.
“The Nun II” (Warner Bros.) is the ninth film in the studio’s long-running “Conjuring” series. The decade-old franchise was created by James Wan. All films had low-end budgets and usually were profitable.
With a $32.6 million domestic opening, this one will follow suit. Beyond its studio, the film is a real win for theaters. With last week’s $34 million debut for “The Equalizer 3” (Sony), that gives September two openings over $30 million in a month that often has none.
New Line Cinema, which produced “The Nun II,” has a track record for horror movies released in early September. These include “It” (2017) and “It Chapter Two” (2019) as well as “The Nun”(2017), all of which opened to over $50 million. Initial foreign dates for “The Nun II” came to nearly $53 million, so...
