Maya Rudolph opened the Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” with a tribute to mothers — in every sense of the term.
Hosting the sketch show’s penultimate episode of the season, Rudolph began her monologue by noting she’s a four-time mom herself. “But Maya, look — you’re not just a mom,” cast member Bowen Yang reminded her. “You’re mother,” invoking the term’s use in queer slang to describe powerful, aspirational women. “You were the first to slay the house down boots, queen!”
“Who me, mother?” Rudolph asked, feigning shock. “You’re right!” The host then launched into a propulsive dance number, strutting through Studio 8H — also known as “House of Rockefeller” — in a reflective bodysuit while delivering lyrics like “Oops, I made you dance / Remember in that movie when I pooped my pants?” Other lines played on the many meanings of “mother”: “Who’s...

Warner Music Group reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $1.5 billion, up 7 percent from a year ago, and net income of $96 million, up from $37 million a year ago. While both numbers saw a jump, the company reported earnings per share of 18 cents per share, below Wall Street expectations of 20 cents.
The bottom-line results were driven by a strong operating performance — $12 million in savings from a March 2023 restructuring plan — and the impact of exchange rates on the company’s Euro-denominated debt, which led to a gain of $21 million in the quarter compared to a loss of $20 million in the prior-year quarter.
“Our performance in the quarter was driven by an acceleration in Recorded Music subscription streaming growth and continued momentum in music publishing,” said Bryan Castellani, CFO of Warner Music. “Encouraged by the continued growth in engagement and value of music, we remain focused on delivering on our strategy and driving long-term shareholder value.

Apple TV+ has debuted a set of first-look images from filmmaker Doug Liman’s ‘The Instigators’.
Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to pull off a robbery of the ill-gained earnings of a corrupt politician. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also backwards bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their depth, they convince Rory’s therapist (Hong Chau) to join their riotous getaway through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture—or worse.
Directed by Doug Liman and written by Chuck MacLean and Casey Affleck, the movie also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, and Toby Jones, with Jack Harlow and Ron Perlman.

Matt Damon would somewhat reunite with his Good Will Hunting and Ocean’s series co-star Casey Affleck in Oppenheimer. However, they would not share a scene together in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic. The two are set to star in an action-comedy-heist movie that brings them back to their native Boston in The Instigators. The heist film is co-written by Affleck, but will be directed by the Road House remake‘s Doug Liman. Affleck says, “The inspiration for this was definitely Midnight Run and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” He also stated that he’s always “wanted to do a buddy action comedy.”
Entertainment Weekly has the first look at The Instigators, which features images with the co-leads and their co-star Hong Chau, who recently worked with Damon in the critically and audience-panned Downsizing. The plot, according to EW says, “Damon costars as Rory, a desperate father who reluctantly...

For years, it was mere off-hand remarks heard across certain corners of the music and fashion industries — specifically, the hip-hop and sportswear spaces where Sean “Diddy” Combs (née Puff Daddy, née P. Diddy) emerged in the mid-’90s and, for a while, seemed to own. The rumors of his excesses and tactics would bubble to the surface in a tweet or radio show revelation, but what seemed implausible about such a high-profile player has now materialized into headline-making allegations involving sex trafficking of minors, sexual misconduct, forced druggings and compromising footage of celebrities held as blackmail.
Since November, there have been five lawsuits leveled against the rapper-turned-mogul who is now at the center of a federal investigation. One bombshell lawsuit that will, at bare minimum, mangle Diddy’s career, came from a young man who was welcomed into his inner circle and, according to that producer, exited the mogul’s...

Lil Nas X launched his grand comeback earlier this year with “J Christ,” an inherently divisive single that sparked a conversation about his consistent use of controversy as a framing device for his music. The song itself quietly fizzled out, but behind the scenes, the rapper was plotting his pivot. On Wednesday, Lil Nas X dropped the new single “Right There” on SoundCloud as a taste of his forthcoming mixtape Nasarati 2.
Lil Nas X raps across the entirety of “Right There,” backed only in certain moments by an angelic choir.

“Michael,” the splashy forthcoming biopic about Michael Jackson from director Antoine Fuqua, has added actor Laura Harrier in a key role.
Harrier, of “BlacKkKlansman” and “Spider-man: Homecoming” fame, will portray pioneering female music executive Suzanne de Passe in the Lionsgate project.
De Passe was a creative assistant to Motown founder Berry Gordy, and is credited with convincing Gordy to sign The Jackson 5 to his label. De Passe costumed the world famous family group in early days, and later played a critical role in bringing the band and other Motown sensations to live television. She worked closely with Michael Jackson from childhood, standing by him as a teacher and mentor, helping him navigate the music business.

Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” has topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, the publication announced on Monday, marking the singer’s ninth time atop the chart as a solo artist and the 13th in total when including her songs with Destiny’s Child.

Laura Harrier is ready to go to war with Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård for the Andrew Niccol-directed sequel Lords of War. Harrier will star opposite Cage and Skarsgård for a follow-up to the filmmaker’s 2005 thriller, Lord of War.
Andrew Niccol directs from a script he wrote, with Cage reprising his role from the 2005 original, arms dealer Yuri Orlov. The plot includes a father-son twist, with Skarsgård playing Orlov’s son, Anton. In the Lord of War sequel, Anton “tries to top his father’s wrongs instead of stopping them as he launches a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts.” The details of Harrier’s role remain a mystery.

When Jennifer Lopez started working on This Is Me… Now, she knew a lot of people wouldn’t get the full concept at first. Yes, she was planning an album that would be a direct sequel to her 2002 LP This Is Me… Then, an album she wrote when she was first falling in love with Ben Affleck, who she reconnected with and married almost exactly 20 years later. But she also wanted to pair the music with an out-of-the-box film that would capture the romantic journey she’d been on over the last two decades.

Mark Wahlberg is one of the most famous Boston natives who is working in Hollywood. The actor has made it in the industry by delivering several hits at the box office such as the Transformers films, The Departed, Boogie Nights, Ted, and more. Wahlberg was also once the highest-paid actor in the world.
However, the legendary actor was reportedly not famous enough for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Massachusetts-themed Super Bowl ad for Dunkin’ Donuts. The ad featured Affleck, Damon, and Tom Brady, but failed to include the Ted star. Mark Wahlberg recently gave a passive-aggressive statement about him not being included in the ad.

Dunkin’ undoubtedly stole the show with the best Super Bowl ad this year. The Super Bowl is not only a fiercely competitive sport for the teams involved but also for companies striving to churn out memorable and attention-grabbing ads.
Dunkin’ this year achieved this feat by featuring JLo, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Tom Brady all in one star-studded commercial, representing the essence of Boston. However, fans couldn’t help but wonder why Mark Wahlberg wasn’t part of the commercial. The actor finally addressed this question during an interview with Stephen Colbert.

In one of the best episodes of The Vince Staples Show – a dark Netflix comedy following the fictionalized life of the titular rapper – Vince slowly but surely leverages a bank robbery he’s caught in the crosshairs of to his advantage. Perhaps this quiet doggedness is autobiographical; in reality, Vince Staples has been actively trying to produce his own television show for about eight years, finally getting it over the line with its Feb. 15 premiere.

Super Bowl Lviii is in the books, and with the big game comes the big game TV spots for upcoming anticipated films. Viewers were able to get a peek at trailers for Kung Fu Panda 4, Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked, If, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Twisters and more. In addition to movie ads, Super Bowl commercials would feature traditional cameos from various notable names. In a T-Mobile ad, the cast of Suits would reunite along with several other appearances by Academy Award hopeful Bradley Cooper, Common, Donald Faison and Zach Braff. State Farm pulled out a big gun with Arnold Schwarzenegger starring in a fictional action movie and playing on his accent in a joke that resembled a classic Simpsons gag.

Advertisers who normally use the Super Bowl to create commercials that make your jaw drop instead were content if they could get just a little smile.
For the second consecutive year, Madison Avenue relied on a massive parade of celebrities to capture consumer attention, foregoing in many cases the social messages and dynamic creative concepts that have generated chatter in the past. Where the Super Bowl was once the setting for Apple’s still-talked-about “1984” commercial or Procter & Gamble’s clever insertion of Tide into a bevy of ads, it’s now become a place for formulaic cameos of famous faces.
“It’s like a celebrity arms race,” says Simon Bruyn, executive creative director at Mother, an independent agency. “It’s like one celebrity isn’t enough.”

Since they co-wrote "Good Will Hunting," Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's real friendship has been an inseparable part of both their public images. Just last year, the two boys from Boston starred together in "Air" (Affleck directed), produced by their co-founded studio Artists Equity. Is there anything Ben loves more than his friend? Maaaaayyyybee Dunkin Donuts.
Dunkin is a Massachusetts staple (it was founded in Quincy). Mix that with some unfortunate paparazzi photos and Affleck's love for the coffee franchise is the stuff of memes.
To Affleck's credit, he's leaned into the joke -- and is making money off of it. At the 2023 Super Bowl, he played himself in a Dunkin Donuts commercial, now working at the establishment. Not for the salary, but for love of the game. Affleck is back at it in the Dunkin commercial from the 2024 Super Bowl, this time dragging Matt Damon in with him.

Ben Affleck is starring in another Super Bowl commercial this year, and he brought some famous friends: his wife Jennifer Lopez, his Bff Matt Damon, Tom Brady, Fat Joe and Jack Harlow in an ad for Dunkin’.
During the spot, Affleck tries to start a music career with some help from Harlow and Damon — Brady acts as his DJ. His wife Lopez and Fat Joe watch his first performance as one of the “The DunKings” in horror.

Ben Affleck attempts a career pivot in his latest ad campaign for Dunkin’. The star-studded Super Bowl spot, which aired Sunday during the game, features Affleck alongside his wife, Jennifer Lopez, and friends Matt Damon, Tom Brady, Jack Harlow and Fat Joe.
In the commercial, Affleck, Damon and Brady all don tracksuits — available for sale from Dunkin’ on Monday — as part of their transformation to become “The DunKings” pop stars, while Lopez, Harlow and Fat Joe offer skepticism.
“What up Bronx,” Affleck says as he enters what appears to be the set of a music video. “For your consideration, here comes the Boston massacre, The DunKings!”
He then introduces Brady (playing the keyboard) and Damon, who stands to the side and tells Affleck, “Sometimes it’s really hard to be your friend.”

With haute couture week in Paris concluded, the spotlight of the fashion world shifted en masse to Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the village perched on the Maritime Alps in southern France. Simon Porte Jacquemus chose it as the location to present his new collection for 2024 in the Maeght Foundation, a few kilometers from Nice, calling together his high-profile friends Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, model (and girlfriend, reportedly, of Leonardo DiCaprio) Vittoria Ceretti and Deva Cassel (daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel) who paraded on a platform set up among the works of Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder and Alberto Giacometti.
Not surprisingly, the collection of 47 looks, both women’s and men’s, was given the name “Les Sculptures” by the French designer (who himself grew up in the south of France, in the town of Mallemort, not far from Marseille).
