Michelle Yeoh has had a few hits and misses on the red carpet throughout her career. But most of the time, she makes incredible clothing selections that are often sophisticated, timeless, and have sleek silhouettes.
Her most recent appearance at the 2024 Gold Gala did not disappoint; she looked elegant in a cream Schiaparelli tweed skirt suit with some quirky accessories that, I think, balanced out the ensemble’s more traditional silhouette. She did, however, appear uncomfortable in her Sergio Rossi pumps.

Gold Gala is the type of weekend where you can share an intimate booth at L.A. culinary hotspot Yangban with a Pulitzer winner (journalist Jose Antonio Vargas) and a top festival exec (TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee) on Friday night and then mimosas and a sound bath at the Four Seasons the next morning with an Olympic figure skater and a former Miss Universe (Madison Chock and R’Bonney Gabriel, respectively) – all as part of mere pre-gaming to the titular main event, which took place at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Ostensibly a cultural celebration and awards dinner from Asian Pacific power broker network Gold House, the third annual Gold Gala was simultaneously an haute couture showcase (fashion designer Prabal Gurung served as its creative director) and a family reunion, with 600 Api talent and leaders from across multiple industries turning out in their finest “heritage black tie,...

Hybe, the label behind Korean supergroup BTS, announced today that its annual sales hit 2.17 trillion won (US$1.6 billion) in 2023, making it the first K-pop agency ever to reach this milestone.
In a conference call, the company said that robust album and concert sales by its major artists contributed to this achievement, including Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together, NewJeans, Enhypen and BTS members as soloists.
Several BTS members are currently undergoing mandatory military service, and the band is temporarily on hiatus. However, it continues to resonate globally, with the likes of Disney+ and Prime Video releasing docs on the band.
Despite their absence, the band’s popularity helped operating profits hit 295.8Bn won, up nearly 25% year-on-year, and a net profit of 186.6Bn won, a whopping 288.5% up on 2022.
Hybe’s annual sales for full-year 2023 are up 22.6% from last year. Album sales were worth $730M, marking a significant increase of 75.8% from 2022. Concert revenue also increased 39.1% to $270M,...

Rest easy, Army. A BTS comeback is officially confirmed, as Hybe announced that the group - who are currently on hiatus as its members complete their mandatory service in the Korean military and their solo activities - have individually renewed their contracts with their label, Bighit Music. BTS first announced their ongoing hiatus in June 2022, four days after they released their anthology album "Proof." On June 14, 2022, they released their final Festa content, a video of the group gathering for dinner and drinks to celebrate their ninth anniversary, and while...

BTS member J-Hope is reporting for military duty. The K-pop star shared a selfie showing off his new buzz cut and a message for fans as he began his 18-month mandatory military service in South Korea on Tuesday.
“I’ll be back in good health,” reads the caption on his Instagram, translated from Korean.
The artist, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, follows in the footsteps of the group’s eldest member, Jin, who began his military service in December.
Under South Korean law, all able-bodied men are required to perform 18 to 21 months of military service. BTS members had already been granted a two-year extension on their government-mandated military service, with top-performing athletes and musicians occasionally granted exemptions.

Korea’s Hybe, which manages K-pop band BTS, says it’s planning a series of acquisitions and investments in the U.S. entertainment market this year, after withdrawing from a heated battle with internet giant Kakao to take control of rival agency Sm Entertainment.
Hybe founder and chairman Bang Si-hyuk said the company will announce a “substantial number of acquisitions and investments within this year as part of our efforts to widen our presence in the U.S.”
Bang has also recently said that the K-pop industry is losing the growth momentum that it enjoyed during the pandemic and that major players would need to scale up and diversify in order to survive. Some of that slowdown is attributed to BTS currently being on a break as a group. “Without BTS, the market drastically shrinks in size,” said Bang.

Nothing is set in stone for BTS as the K-pop supergroup’s hiatus continues while its seven members pursue solo endeavors and complete their mandatory military service requirements. When the break was first properly announced in October, the group’s label BigHit Music explained that it wouldn’t be too long of a break, with BTS set to reconvene “as a group again around 2025.”
But at a press conference this week, the chairman of the label’s parent company Hybe, Bang Si-hyuk, deflated hopes that the group’s comeback would still occur on that timeline.

Hybe has grown so much over the past few years. The South Korean entertainment company, which was founded in 2005 as one label known as Big Hit Music, and for a long time, their only artist was BTS. But as the company expanded alongside BTS's success, it made Big Hit a subsidiary label and began acquiring other Korean labels like Pledis Entertainment, Source Music, and has even bought American companies like Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings and, most recently, the hip-hop label Quality Control. Despite already dominating so much of the music market, Hybe isn't done growing just yet.
Since August 2021, Hybe has also had its eye on Sm Entertainment. However, its efforts to acquire a majority stake in the company has been met with some controversy. Why? Let me break it down for you.

K-Pop is facing a “very clear slowdown in growth”. That is why Hybe, the mega company behind BTS and other globally popular acts, is eyeing expansion into the US. This was stated by Hybe chairman Bang Si-Hyuk, to CNN’s Richard Quest in an interview, reports ‘Variety’.
Hybe is seeking to expand its holdings in the South Korean music market by acquiring a large stake in its competitor, Sm.
The genre, which has boomed globally over the past five years, “is not as hot in the market as you might perceive,” Bang said, according to ‘Variety’.
“Globally, it’s not occupying much of the market,” he added. “On the other hand, Latin music and Afrobeat are very rapidly growing. So being where we are, it is more urgent to increase the exposure. … Looking at our export indicators and streaming growth, the slowdown in growth is very clear.”
