Jay Grossman was born in Northeast Philadelphia in 1949. His parents, Barney and Ethel owned a neighborhood drugstore. Jay attended Northeast High School and participated in school theatre productions. He graduated from Temple University with a BA in Communications and immediately following his graduation ceremony, he got into his car and drove to Hollywood, California. He began his show business career working on game shows, most notably on Split Second hosted by Tom Kennedy. He wrote short bits for up and coming celebrities such as Barry Manilow and soon gained a reputation for his razor-sharp wit. He wrote for television comedies such as The Love Boat and Laverne & Shirley and also wrote an episode of Fame. He was good friends with then up and coming writer, Bruce Vilanch. Jay fulfilled one of his dreams when he got to work with George Burns on one of his books. Jay died of AIDS on New Years Day in 1986.- Cinematographer
