He was born in Lins suburbs and grew up in the slum of Mangueira, Rio de Janeiro. He won the "Mussum" nickname from friend Grande Otelo, when he was still a musician. In 1969, Chico Anysio took him to work in his TV Tupi show, Escolinha do Professor Raimundo (1990). With the musical group "Os Originais do Samba", he recorded 12 albums, and had several radio hits, including "Assassinaram o Camarao". In 1981, he left the group to dedicate exclusively to his acting career. He is best remembered for his work in the famous comedy troupe Os Trapalhões (1969-1994), which he joined in 1976. He died in São Paulo, on July 29 1994, at 53 years old, of heart complications after a heart transplant.- Cook was born into an upper-class family in London, but turned his back on his upbringing and spent many years drifting in and out of small-time crime. In his later years, he adopted the pseudonym "Derek Raymond", to avoid confusion with the blockbuster writer Robin Cook.
