- For more than thirty years, Chetwynd-Hayes steadily turned out over 200 short stories and more than a dozen novels, and at one time his collections of ghost stories and humorous horror filled the shelves of nearly every public library in the United Kingdom. In l976 he ghost-edited and wrote almost all of GHOUL, a one-shot magazine from New English Library, billed as 'a ghastly giggle'. He was also the author of two film novelizations, DOMINIQUE (1979) and THE AWAKENING (1980, based on Bram Stoker's THE JEWEL OF THE SEVEN STARS), and his own stories were adapted for the screen in the anthology movies FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE (1973) and THE MONSTER CLUB (1980). In the latter, the author was portrayed by veteran Hollywood actor John Carradine opposite Vincent Price's "famished" vampire. In 1989 R. He was presented with Life Achievement Awards by both The British Fantasy Society and The Horror Writers of America for his services to the genre. The latter gave the author his only opportunity to travel across the Atlantic, an experience that made almost as much of an impression on him as the accolades of his peers. He was also a guest of honour at FantasyCon XVII in 1992 and at the 1997 World Fantasy Convention in London.
