- The discovery of a body at the edge of a torrent disturbs the quiet life of Alex Hugo, a former cop in Marseille, now a rural guard in a secluded post in the mountains because of the unusual violence not seen that area. Very quickly "the killer with the axe" is caught but a copy-cat takes advantage to imitate the mode of operation of this criminal and assassinate the director of a cheese dairy. Alex soon realises that this murder may be related to a Marseille case of fifteen years ago. The sleeping instinct of the cop awakens. He will have to find the killer along with Caroline Wacquier, an investigator from the criminal brigade, who stirs the ghosts of the past.
- Gunshots resound in the mountains: the valley of Lusagne is about to welcome the hunting of wolves. While the village is in turmoil to prepare the event, mysterious human bones are discovered in a cave. William Delapierre, a young man with no family or attachment, was coldly executed with a bullet in the skull, then abandoned in the mountains. Alex Hugo is convinced that the case conceals a mystery more complex than a simple settlement of account. The discovery of a wild adolescent, lost in the forest, gives him reason. Then begins a long journey to discover the frightening truth.
- Lusagne in the late afternoon: the children of the summer camp are returning from a long day of mountain walking, but Justine, 10 years old has disappeared. Her instructor, Marianne Helme, who is looking for her, has not returned either, and night falls. Alex and Angelo immediately mobilise volunteers and discover with terror the body of Marianne stranded in a torrent but no trace of Justine. Very quickly, the suspicions are on Jérémy Raveau, a strange person that subsists thanks to odd jobs. Raveau is escorted to the rural police station where the locals are demanding justice. Lt. Renart of the criminal brigade in Marseille is responsible for the investigation. But Raveau's mental handicap makes interrogation particularly difficult. Usually so professional, Angelo is this time particularly tested by the case. The father of the missing girl is a close friend and little Justine is his goddaughter. In the face of an emergency situation and with Angelo blinded by his emotions, Alex will have to act alone at the risk of breaking the strong bond between them.
