- After a family scandal leaves Mel, a local politician, in charge of her niece and nephew, she hires a man named Joe to become the family's male nanny, or "manny."

- Grace brings Rob home to meet her kids just as Nadine announces that her baby is on its way.
- Grace is taking a writing class at the local college. The professor is not kind or especially helpful. Grace doesn't know if she wants to go back. Grace defends her writing to the teacher and walks out.
- Jimmy brings the Kelly clan over to Grace's house for Thanksgiving after Libby feels ignored by Jimmy. Wade and Nadine decide to date.
- Grace and Rick are at his place kissing when a young woman enters through the front door. It's Rick's daughter, Amy, who has apparently seen many similar scenes and is quite rude to both of them. Later she volunteers to watch Libby and Patrick while Grace and Rick go out to buy a dress to wear to the symphony. While they're gone, Amy dyes Libby's hair dark like her own. This causes a fight between Grace and Rick, with Rick telling Grace not to tell him how to raise his children.
- Russell and Grace think everyone's life is more exciting than theirs, so they decide to go on a date together. The refinery gets rid of everyone as employees, but hires them back as 'independent contractors', meaning a slight raise but no benefits. Grace makes plans to go out with the smarmy guy she met while out with Russell, but that's only his bar personality. He's actually well-read, nice, interested in kids, etc.
- Grace posts an ad in the pharmacy for a sitter for Patrick. Jean comes to watch him the first day and asks why Grace doesn't put him in daycare. Grace explains that the only daycare she can afford won't take Patrick because he's not toilet trained. Grace decides to demand a company daycare center.
- Grace deals with Quinton's denial of her when in public, and her boss's daughter Julia, who is pregnant, visiting and trying to get the father to just talk with his daughter.
- After meeting a salesman at a motel, rumors spread through town about Grace and DC having an affair. After a flippant remark made by Grace turns out to be true, all kinds of rumors about everyone in town are coming out.
- Grace queries Quentin about his teenage activities and panics when Russell reveals that Quentin bought condoms at the pharmacy.
- Bev, the mother of Quentin's girlfriend, leaves her husband and moves in with Grace and the kids.
- Grace's father in law, Emmett, is admitted to the hospital with chest pains and finds he has to have bypass surgery. Wade tells Nadine it's okay if they can't have kids, he'd be just as happy adopting.
- Emmet and Jean come to watch the kids while Grace and Rick go to St. Louis for the weekend. One her way out the door, Grace finds out that Emmet is going off for the weekend also. The hotel has only adult movies on demand and not the game he wants to see. They end up in a gay sports bar, to Rick's embarrassment. Then, they see Emmet in the same bar.
- Jean is helping decorate the Christmas tree when she receives a phone call. Emmet has had a heart attack and died. Emmet's lover comes to the wake and loudly proclaims their mutual love.
- Grace (who has a fear of heights) has to rescue a coworker who's stranded up on a construction beam. Quentin tries to fix a car engine with some "help" from his friends.
- During a tornado, a sack of money ends up at Grace's house. When she returns it to the owner, $20k is missing, and everyone accuses Grace of stealing it.
- On Grace's last night in New York, she meets a firefighter who moonlights as a jazz musician.
- Wade's old pal visits and annoys Grace which ends up with kissing. Jean goes on a date which makes Floyd jealous.
- Sam, friend from across the street always seems to be visiting the Kelly's house. We know he's had a long-time crush on Grace and his mother appears to be the new June Cleaver, but is there something else going on?
- A new woman is brought into Grace's crew but is transferred back to her old crew when she complains about the men's language. Nadine and Wade have fertility problems.
- Grace graduates college and is asked to give the commencement speech.
- One of the laid-off employees comes to the refinery and holds Grace's crew hostage, while making demands of the company. During the ensuing discussions, the men discover that Grace is dating Rick.
- Grace has to choose between her job at the refinery or continuing her education.
- Grace is upset with Quentin when she finds out his new girlfriend and her parents lavish him with gifts. Russell has a chance to be with an attractive divorcee.
- Grace starts a new job at the bridge construction site. Nadine divorcing Wade.

Grace is called away from work to the school where her oldest, Quentin, has been in a fight. As they talk, she realizes that he has known about his father's abuse. Grace's friend introduces her to the pharmacist.
- Jimmy wins a big settlement after falling down the stairs and Grace needs it because he hasn't been paying child support. A law student gets permission to take her case and all they have to do it show that Jimmy hasn't paid. Grace is given 15 seconds to make her case.
- A deluge of rain causes flooding, which brings difficult situations. Jimmy visits and ends up getting stuck at Grace's house, while Russell runs out into the storm to get Faith's insulin.
- Rick gets two tickets to see an author Grace enjoys, but it's Halloween and Grace says she can't go. Quentin is banned from Halloween, Libby stains her costume, a troubled neighbor comes to complain. Jean expertly gets rid of the neighbor and takes over the celebration so Grace can do something for herself. Grace performs at a coffeehouse, in costume.
- The government doesn't send a payment to the construction company causing paychecks to be held and Grace with no money. Wade stakes out the pharmacy to catch a burglar.
- Grace's former in-laws have the children for the weekend. The men plan to 'save' Russell's former dog from his neuter appointment tomorrow. Grace and Nadine are invited to a frat house party.
- Libby tells Grace her friend's mom is the 'best mom ever' and putting her daughter in a child's beauty pageant. Grace relents and says Libby can be in the pageant. Then the mother tells Grace that she doesn't have the 'breeding' to be pageant material. Now, to find a talent that Libby can showcase.

Rick, the corporate executive that Grace spoke to about being demoted, shows up at one of the obligations and asks her out.
- Grace rents out her apartment to Dougie. Libby receives a package from her penpal, who thinks she's older, divorced and has three kids. Sailor Bob takes a trip to meet 'Libby'.
- Grace takes the kids camping, but when Quentin pushes a little girl in a neighboring camp, she finds out that Jimmy has told Quentin that Grace hit him during their marriage.
- Nadine confesses to Grace that she wants to have a baby. Wade tells Grace he hates his job. Bill's wife tells Grace she knows Bill has been going to the track and has lost their savings.
- Grace rents her garage apartment to a classmate who also moonlights as a stripper to pay for her classes.
- Grace realizes Wade and Nadine are having sex when she finds a pair of his boxers in her garage. Grace slips on Wade's icy property, and at Wade's insistence, sees a physical therapist. Wade accuses Grace of drawing out the sessions when he finds out she is attracted to Travis, the therapist. Grace later decides to date Travis.
