- A PARADISE STOLEN. Life in Pinnacle, Jamaica is a stunning account of childhood in Jamaica's first Rastafari community. Leonard Howell, known as 'The First Rasta', became the first Black man to purchase the large tract of land in 1939 with the acquisition of over 500 acres in the parish of St. Catherine. The settlement was called Pinnacle, and within its borders Howell created a free, self-reliant community of like-minded followers. In A PARADISE STOLEN, Leonard Howell's children, Monty and Bill 'Blade' Howell, recall their enchanted life in Pinnacle and reflect on the values of their father's teachings. Vibrant, free, and deeply affecting, A PARADISE STOLEN is the only documentary to explore the lives of Monty and Bill 'Blade' Howell and the community of Pinnacle. Monty and Bill Howell provide a gripping testimonial of the love, unity, and peace in the community that shaped the course of their lives. As the children of Pinnacle's f founder, Monty and Bill spent sixteen years (1940-1956) living in this utterly unique Rastafari oasis. The people of Pinnacle lived without crime, violence, and simply, as Bill so aptly stated, "looked out for each other." Although Monty, Bill, and others in the community led peaceful lives, Pinnacle was burned to the ground by British establishment forces in 1958. A PARADISE STOLEN' s journey into the life and eventual death of Pinnacle serves as a reminder of the horrors those who dare to challenge the Establishment often face. In spite of Leonard Howell, his children, and his many followers led peaceful lives, they were ultimately destroyed by their own nation. A PARADISE STOLEN commemorates the loss of a village and the creation of a lifestyle: while the physical remnants of Pinnacle are gone, Leonard Howell's Rastafari movement continues to impact culture on a global scale to this day. Though Rasta culture is as visible as ever, this documentary allows Bill and Monty to preserve the distinct legacy of their fathers work and the village that reared them. Their candid, stirring stories are poignant historical artifacts; successfully capturing the diverse past of Pinnacle from both a historical and personal perspective. An indispensable piece of Jamaican and global history now immortalized on film, A PARADISE STOLEN reflects on the joyful moments in Pinnacle.

- Champions Together documentary: Joan Taylor, an Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement Practitioner based in Columbus, Ohio, is the practitioner and subject of the film. Two special needs children, who are her students and their mothers are featured in the documentary: Brentlee, age 6 months, who has a brachial plexus birth injury; and Myka, age 3, who has cerebral palsy. Champions Together is an exploration of how a somatic movement education method can awaken the brain of a special needs child to form new neural pathways, allowing improved physical, emotional and cognitive functioning. The method is backed both by the science of brain plasticity and a somatic movement understanding of how a child teaches themselves how their body works. It is also an amazing human interaction between the practitioner, the special needs child and their parents-requiring patience and openness to new possibilities, instead of simply trying to 'fix' the child. She is reunited with Robert, a boy she loved in high school. When she returns to live in San Francisco, they plan a wedding. Instead she must hold a memorial, an unexpected turn of fate that propels her forward with little warning into the mysteries of a San Francisco "sacred space." She must let go of Robert once again--to place his ashes in the beautiful and extraordinary Columbarium. Linda finds the people who inhabit the Columbarium, both the living and the dead, have stories to tell about what makes our individual lives meaningful. And about how the constancy of caring for one another is key to surviving the loss inherent in every life that risks love. As the Columbarium's caretaker/historian, Emmitt Watson explains, "We are all one. Not two. Not separate. But one." Public buildings can embody our personal histories. If the process of grief is the art of putting one foot in front of the other, the sound of Linda's footsteps on the Columbarium's marble floors is a metaphor for one of life's hardest journeys. - The myth of Cinderella undergoes a series of generative twist to illumine the inventive power of speech. 11 children and 3 educated women engaged in a game of improvisation via their talking-head camera presence. Tale-telling to some children is the realization of creative instincts, to others the performance of self, or it's simply a tedious pedagogic vessel. My research-creation completes with adult women transforming the usage of Cinderella-objects into agents of their own stories, however fragmentary or elliptical. The event of tale-telling woke up the child in them; children language was appropriated to perform unarticulated subjectivities. Gender is a complex system, most revealing in language-in-action. The coda is a grand finale celebrating the magical power of objects and their own unlimited lives. Story-telling is the most primitive form of play. Harmless it may look, it is also the most sophisticated embodiment of ideological workings. The same story of Cinderella hides and enacts a child's family background, moral formation, the effects of socialization, her aspirations, projection of a good life and so on.
