Although the location of this film is frequently given as Fort Lee, it was actually shot near Sound Beach in Connecticut. Linda Arvidson reported this correctly in her memoir, When the Movies Were Young (1925).
According to Linda Arvidson's memoir, Arthur V. Johnson was selected off the street by D.W. Griffith because he felt Johnson "looked like a 'husband,'" especially the affluent husband he plays here. Griffith felt the actors already employed at Biograph were unsuitable and didn't have this quality.
This film is posted online to the Library of Congress' National Screening Room.
The story for this film was considered a dud around the studio, and was assigned to newcomer D.W. Griffith to test his abilities. After viewing the result, the bosses at Biograph declared that if his next picture was half as good, Griffith was the man they wanted for their new director.
