Max falls out with his friend over his pretty housemaid and they end up reluctantly participating in a duel. An overlong comedy from Max Linder, the highlight of which is a cowardly duel, and a final scene in which the entire set dances to a tune played on the piano.

We Must Fight And One Of Us Must Die! I Hope It Will Be You

When old friend Harry Fragson comes to stay with him, Max Linder is delighted. Alas, he has no servants, but a newspaper advertisement soon brings beautiful Stacia Napierkowska looking for a job. Max is smitten, and so is Harry. They do all her work for her and soon they fall to quarreling. There must be a duel!
Max fills this one with delightful gags, ranging from trying to ride a piano down the street, to having the furniture dance like the old Feuillade short, LA BOUS-BOUS-MIE. The gags come fast, both the standard ones in which Max wields a seltzer bottle with aplomb (I thought it Chaplinesque, but Charlie must have lifted that attitude from Max) and totally unexpected. This is a new one for me, and not to be missed!
