This early venereal-disease education film is presumed lost.
Upton Sinclair was a champion of the Eugène Brieux play. When it was published in the U.S. in 1913, the publisher included a preface written by Sinclair.
The film was re-released in the USA in a reedited version on 12 February 1917, supervised by Richard Bennett, with a new introduction and a new conclusion.
Richard Bennett, who played George Dupont in the original play's Broadway debut, reprises the role here. Adrienne Morrison also reprises her role.
The first Broadway run of the play "Damaged Goods" (original French title: Les Avaries) opened at the Fulton Theatre on West 46th Street on March 14th, 1914 and ran for 66 performances. The production starred Richard Bennett, Laura Burt, Grace Elliston, Amelia Gardner, Clarence Handyside, Wilton Lackaye Jr. (who co-produced the show with Bennett), Adrienne Morrison, and Margaret Wycherly.
