The Action Girl
boblipton10 June 2020
Here's a short serial from Kalem, starring Ruth Roland, who goes undercover to investigate a man. There are thrills, great stunts, and Miss Roland keeps throwing drink after drink on restaurant carpets rather than risk becoming drunk in the middle of the case -- that rug must have needed extensive cleaning after that.

While at Biograph, D.W. Griffith's ideal of the ZVictorian girl reigned, at Kalem, the action girl was supreme, modern women who went out into the world, faced dangers, and rescued the hero more often than he rescued her.
