The first thing we learn about Alice (Reese Witherspoon) in Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s directorial debut, “Home Again,” is that she’s a modern rom-com’s dream leading lady: a newly separated single mom with a kick-ass house who is just trying to make it (all of it, any of it) work. The second thing we learn about Alice is that she’s the daughter of a very famous, very respected, and very dead American director, a tongue-in-cheek reference to Meyers-Shyer’s own heritage — she’s Nancy Meyers’ daughter — that marks one of the film’s few original ideas. Still, it’s an amenable enough ramble of a romantic comedy, and Witherspoon is as charming as ever in the genre in which she excels.

Hey Lrm Weekenders, this week we're featuring some of the most intriguing, powerful, and successful women in Hollywood. Its easy to become fixated on our male action stars, since that's how Hollywood tends to market their films, so we sometimes fail to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of our female action stars! But first, we want to discuss the elephant in the room: the dwindling audiences at movie theaters -- we'll explore some problems, one potential solution, and hopefully provide some insight into an issue that's only going to get worse if everything remains status quo.

With his wife Amal expecting twins, George Clooney will likely soon have his evenings consumed with changing diapers and tearful tots. So it’s no surprise that the first-time dad-to-be is enjoying a little guys’ night out when he can.
The 55-year-old Oscar winner was spotted on Friday night leaving the famed Hollywood hotspot Craig’s restaurant where he grabbed dinner with longtime friend Rande Gerber.
His night out comes as the Clooneys have started nesting in their recently renovated English mansion west of London, where they spent the holidays and were spotted taking a stroll down the bank of the River Thames in mid-January.

Editor’s note: This article is presented in partnership with the Holland Marketing Alliance and their award-winning “Holland. The Original Cool” travel series. You can watch their new short film, “The Tale of Kat & Dog: A Holland Cool Movie” here:
After watching “The Tale of Kat and Dog: A Holland Cool Movie,” you’ll be convinced that Holland is a country of art, culture and super-intelligent dogs. In “Holland. The Original Cool”s new short film, an American woman named Kat travels to Amsterdam and is content to eat stroopwafels alone in the park. It’s only after she’s taken on an unexpected tour by a wily dog named Joepie [Yoo-pee, which is basically Dutch for “yay!”] that she starts to see the city for all it’s worth.
From houseboats to local watering holes to a view from the top of Amsterdam’s stunning cityscape, the film explores a local life that steers clear of tourist traps.

Naz is having a great night. The quiet college kid (played by upcoming “Star Wars: Rogue One” star Riz Ahmed), who still lives with his parents, scored an invite to a party with the basketball players he idolizes. Not only that, but it’s in Manhattan and “girls” are promised to be there. What more could a shy but eager young man ask for? Better yet, before he can even find the hot spot packed with single ladies, he meets one on his own. Things progress nicely, if a bit strangely, and Naz lives out every college boy’s dream night.
Until, that is, it becomes a nightmare.
It’s safe to admit as much without a spoiler warning, considering there’s no secret, no pretension whatsoever, that Naz’s night is heading toward any outcome other than disaster – even if he can’t see it. Directed and written...

Ra-ra-ooh-la-la indeed! "Nobody's really captured the quality of a film festival," observed musician/composer Neil Brand, "You're doing something that's pleasurable, but then the fatigue sets in..." It's true—a celluloid feast like Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna is a particular case, too, since so many of the films are rarities. It's like being a cake specialist and suddenly somebody offers you fifty magnificent cakes of unique recipe but says "You have to eat them all in an hour or I'll take them away and you'll never see them again." You plunge in, and even when nausea starts to replace pleasure you can't bring yourself to stop...

The series finale of "How I Met Your Mother" airs Monday (March 31), and it's prompted a lot of nostalgia here at Zap2it. The show loves jumping back and forth in time, so we thought we'd do the same.
Here are our 10 favorite episodes of the series, along with one more that packed a big wallop at the end. They're arranged in the order in which they aired.
'Sweet Taste of Liberty'
(Season 1, episode 3) Ted and Barney's first wild adventure: A night out to pick up women turns into a trip to Philadelphia, being taken into custody by airport security and a last-minute detour to lick the Liberty Bell.
While Ted might complain about how crazy Barney is most of the time, their adventure to Philly and back was indeed legendary. Besides, now he knows what the Liberty Bell tastes like: Freedom and pennies.

Exec producer Ryan Murphy has stated that pretty much everyone in "American Horror Story: Coven" is "going dark," and here are some photos from the upcoming Episode 3.07, "The Dead," along with a few more comments from Murphy to get you ready for next week.
Speaking with EW, Murphy said of "The Dead," "[It] is a very meditative episode. It’s very much about Madison (Emma Roberts) and Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) and Kyle (Evan Peters). There’s a lot of great stuff about Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) and Marie Laveaux (Angela Bassett) and the unexpected friendship with Lalaurie (Kathy Bates). We dwell a lot on characters in that episode who are dead and are brought back and what their inner lives are and what their futures are."
As for Spalding (Denis O'Hare), "[O]bviously he’s crossed a line. He didn’t kill Madison, but what he did... defile[d] her body. So the girls...

Michelle, 35, casually stated that she was a bisexual in a new interview — are you shocked by this news?
Michelle Rodriguez, is known to be quite the outspoken, adventurous and unapologetic actress on and offscreen — and publicly announced that she was bisexual in an interview on Oct. 1.
Michelle Rodriguez States She’s Bisexual
“I don’t talk about what I do with my vagina, and they’re all intrigued,” she told Entertainment Weekly, referring to the media. “I’ve never walked the carpet with anyone, so they wonder: What does she do with her vagina? Plus, I play a butchy girl all the time, so they assume I’m a lesbo.”
When the publication said that that’s not fair of the media to think of the Avatar actress that way, she revealed that she’s a bisexual.
“Eh, they’re not too far off,” she stated to the magazine. “I’ve gone both ways.

Hollywood studio chiefs must have had stressful Labor Day weekends this year: if facing their parent companies’ boards of directors, after generating only lackluster returns on $250 million films over the summer, wasn’t painful enough, then came a plethora of scathing analyses about the judgment, or lack thereof, that led them to greenlight such projects in the first place.
Over the past few weeks, numerous pundits have been reviewing their summer blockbusters in a pessimistic, if not antagonistic, tenor. Luckily for the Hollywood bigwigs, the critics are now turning their sites toward the fall film festivals and the early presages of Oscar season. But the point has now been made loudly and clelarly: this was a terrible summer for Hollywood — or, as Timothy Egan of The New York Times described it, the “Summer of the Big Dud.” (If you caught Universal’s R.I.P.D...

When Miley Cyrus first appeared on stage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 25), no tongue was wagging more than the singer's own. In this new "We Can't Stop"-era in her career, Cyrus has embraced a new signature pose: The stuck-out tongue.
It all seemed to begin with the release of her much talked about music video in June, which mostly served as a coming out party for her tongue.
From then on, Miley's tongue popped out to say hello almost everywhere she went. Like a Myspace event in June.
A "Good Morning America" visit in July.
Overseas to Berlin, posing with a fan.
The 2013 Teen Choice Awards.
A twitpic of her Sunday Funday in August.
A night out in NYC.
And finally, this year's VMAs.
Where will Miley's tongue turn up next? One can only imagine.

Gustave Field, who has died aged 95, was a Hollywood screenwriter who in 1958 was lured to London by the fledgling television company ABC to help aspiring TV dramatists build in motivation, suspense and other Hollywood virtues. His successes included Alun Owen, Ray Rigby, and Harold Pinter, whose A Night Out was primarily written for radio but its TV version, starring Tom Bell, topped audience ratings.

A recent report from Sky News highlighted the increasing concern over poor sales of DVD and Blu-ray releases. Since even before the recession, sales have been dropping at an alarming rate, with many consumers turning to buying digital downloads or worse, watching films illegally. High street entertainment store HMV have taken significant losses with fears remaining over the future of the fledgling retailer. If the store was to close its doors for good, there would be no dedicated retailers of entertainment left on the high street.
The poor sales can’t be pinpointed to a single reason, but rather are likely the result of a number of different issues. Firstly there’s the aforementioned recession which has forced consumers to think twice when parting with their cash. Secondly, the easy access to online content has eliminated the need for buying physical media. Thirdly – a far more crucial point than the...

The 11th annual Nevada City Film Festival, running Aug. 18-21, is four nights crammed full with short films, several feature-length documentaries, one dramatic feature, stand-up comedy performances and more surprises, all nestled within the rolling hills of Northern California.
The fest opens with the feature documentary Someplace With a Mountain, directed by Steve Goodall and narrated by Chevy Chase. The film tells the story of the embattled people of the Puluwat atoll who are besieged by the Pacific Ocean itself. Rising waters due to global warming are making their land slowly disappear beneath the waves.
Other feature docs include music-based films We Are Wizards, directed by Josh Koury, about the oddball phenomenon of rock bands that only craft songs about the world of Harry Potter; and Everyday Sunshine, directed by Lev Anderson and Chris Metzler, which profiles the legendary ska punk band Fishbone that continues to bring their enthusiastic music to the masses.
